Actionscript 3 :: Why Is Casting Object (null) Not Null

Mar 6, 2012

When you cast null to an object using Object(null), the result is an object.When you cast undefined to an object using Object(undefined), the result is an object.But saying null as Object or undefined as Object remains null.Why is this? I can't find anything in the documentation about this.

The objects that result from these casts can have properties set on and read from them. It's as if the cast created information, or removed whatever special information the null and undefined values have. But there's no indication in the AS3 documentation that the null and undefined special types are actually objects.

Javascript :: Replicate Flash Cube Rotation In CSS: Preserve Correct Perspective?

I am converting a Flash Web App to a Javascript(HTML and CSS) Web App. I have a cube rotation animation working but I have a problem with the perspective.My Problem: I am not sure which CSS attribute I should use to replicate the Flash versions perspective(please see the 2 images below). The 2 below images where taken while the cube rotation was occuring and you can see the difference in the perspective(the 2nd image is too wide and should look like the first). You can see a working example here(Note it only works onThe first image was taken from the flash application and displays the CORRECT perspective(that I am trying to achieve in CSS).The 2nd image is taken from my CSS, Javascript and HTML web app and the cube rotates with the INCORRECT perspective. What CSS attribute do I change in order to achieve the above images cube perspective?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Null Object Not Null

Sep 5, 2009

I am trying to add an EventListener to a MC, but I am getting the 1009 error. My script is referencing a MC that does exist. I have verified that my code is typed correctly, and that my instance names are correct.I am creating a portfolio site. On the first frame I have my main navigation (well, it's actually not the first frame. I alpha-fade everything in so it's really the 6th or 7th, but I'm not sure how pertinent that is). The main navigation works fine (5 movie clips, fyi). Clicking them will move to a different frame, and the information and sub navigation for the frame will fade up. It is the sub navigation that I am having trouble with.[code]

As you can see, it doesn't even get to the function before it gets thrown off. I have verified that the instance names are correct. The script and the MC I am trying to add it too [I/]are[I/] in the same frame, which is what's stumping me. Normally you get 1009 when the object you're trying to reference is not there, but mine is!!Obviously there is something wrong with my EventListener. I am not sure what else do; there is a gap in my understanding of AS.

Arrays :: Declaring A Null Property Within An Object, Or Running A Function Within An Object Declaration

Feb 22, 2011

I have an object which is assigned a number of properties:

var project_array:Array = [];
var slideObject:Object = {
project_title : myXML.projects.project[i].title.toUpperCase(),

[Code].....

but I'm not quite sure where to place this. If I place it outside of the object constructor, I get "term is undefined", I guess because it doesn't know what project_clips_array is - but if I declare project_clips_array in the constructor, it appears to need to be defined, i.e. I can't create a blank property. But I can't place it in the constructor either, because it doesn't seem to allow me to run a function within an object constructor. What is the proper syntax or arrangement of code for executing this function to get the array within the object?

Javascript 3 :: Can A JavaScript Function Detect Which Flash DOM Object Called It

May 20, 2011

Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.

The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

JavaScript :: Comparing Undefined / Null Or NaN With Arbitrary Number

Dec 15, 2011

In ActionScript 1 and 2, if you compare undefined, null or NaN with an arbitrary number using >= or <= operator, the result is always true. Test code:

var x, n, range = 1000;
for (var i = 0; i < 3; ++i) {
switch (i) {
case 0:
x = undefined;
[Code] .....

Furthermore, isNaN(null) return true. These are contrary to JavaScript and may not conform with ECMA standard.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get / Set Correct Height For Masked Object

Sep 12, 2009

I'm building a class for a data grid that creates everything dynamically, and allows the user to add buttons to a cell easily. If the user defines a height for the dataGrid that's smaller than the content, the content is cropped and a scrollbar is added. Now here's where my problem occurs. Once the content is masked, and you then try to access the .height property of the dataGrid, it will return the height of the dataGrid + the masked content.So I added a get/set override function for the .height property. Now this works, but only if I'm constantly updating the height as I create my dataGrid. What I'm curious about, is how (when the properties aren't overridden) when you add a child to a MovieClip, it's .height property is updated automatically? For example if you have

ActionScript Code:
var par:MovieClip = new MovieClip();
// each Cell is 20px tall.
var cell1:Cell = new Cell();
var cell2:Cell = new Cell();
par.addChild(cell1);
par.addChild(cell2);
trace(par.height);

The .height will equal 40px. Is there a set somewhere inside addChild that updates the .height property, or is there a different way that they do it? Basically I'd like to override the .height property after a certain amount of the dataGrid is built (to compensate for the difference in masked content height), but since the override happens from the very beginning, I'd like to know if there's a better way of setting my MCs height rather than constantly setting it as I build the grid. Or better yet, is there a way to get the proper height of an object that contains masked content without having to override the height?
