i'm a designer trying to step up my flash skills and have a scripting problem that's causing me trouble. essentially i have a child swf loaded into a container in a parent swf and want the child to be able to instruct the parent. to explain in full, the child contains an flv with bespoke video player components. it's container sits in one frame of the parent. when the flv finishes playing, i need the parent swf to move onto another frame.
as it's a controllable flv, it isnt possible to predict the exact length of time the child will need to be present, so it literally needs to tell the parent it's finished playing at that very point.
I have an external swf (sub.swf) that loads into my main swf. The external swf has buttons of its own...that I would like to use to load additional external swf's in its place. I click on the buttons and nothings happens.
My current code is as follows:
All of the following code is in my main.swf ================================ //Location where the external SWFs will load var Xpos:Number=18; var Ypos:Number=10;
[Code]...
External swf has no code except for a stop action.
I pieced this current code based on various articles I've found on the net.
I have a MovieClip named "all_Pages" inside of it has timeline tweening on its child "pg" which has sets of pages as child of pg on framesHere is the problemI am trying to execute the code written on all_pages first frame which is 6th frame
all_pages.pg.gotoAndPlay(6); while executing all_pages.gotoAndPlay(1); // timeline tweening i.e
Im working on a project that has a main swf file associated with the document class. It loads XML that provides the text content for the project, then it loads a swf that contains a font in its library, then it loads the first of several content module swfs. When the font swf has inited, I'm registering its library font with Font.registerFont(), and using it in a TextFormat object. After everything is done, I can add code to the document class to create a text field on the stage of the main swf and format it successfully with the TextFormat object, but when I try to do the same thing inside the loaded content module swf, the text doesn't show up there at all.

I have loaded a SWF and attached to a MovieClip which exist in my current movie using the following code, and now I just want to access the loaded SWF to send it orders like play() or gotoAndPlay(); I have tried also: container= MocieClip(loader.content); instead adding child, but it trhows an error
I got a Parent Sprite, let's name it SpriteP, which holds inside it two other Sprites. Sprite1 and Sprite2.[code]Sprite2 is a rectangle. When I rotate it, of course, the height of its parent, SpriteP, GROWS. But I would expect that height to go back to what it should be when I'm removing Sprite2!And it does! If I remove Sprite2 while NOT being rotated, the height of the parent drops back to normal, 200.
i am slightly confused about the parent and child relationship. lets assume we have several different instances, what would be difference of adding them all as children of the stage and creating a parent-child hierarchy between them(other than the access path).
I got a Parent Sprite, let's name it SpriteP, which holds inside it two other Sprites. Sprite1 and Sprite2.
When Sprite2 is NOT rotated:
Code: trace(SpriteP.width + ' ' + SpriteP.height); //100 250. SpriteP.removeChild(Sprite2) trace(SpriteP.width + ' ' + SpriteP.height); //100 200. -> works, 200 is good. When Sprite2 is rotated at 90:
[Code].....
And it does! If I remove Sprite2 while NOT being rotated, the height of the parent drops back to normal, 200. But if I rotate Sprite2, the Parent won't update its bounds.
I have a portfolio page with several trailer thumbnails (a portfolio list). If you click on each, the page changes and you see the trailer in a video player, plus more info about the film. I used two frames in the timeline: the first frame has the clip with the thumbnails (port_list). The second frame has a movie clip container and the video player. The idea is that pressing the respective button from port_list will load the details of that movie and the movie into the video player. I am using this script:
ZSQ_but.onRelease = function (){ _parent.gotoAndStop("por_details"); myplayer.contentPath = "videos/ZSQ.flv";[codde]....
Even though the script looks alright (and works alright if at the root level), it will not work from the child clip. What am I doing wrong?
I have an elearning course, a .swf, that loads multiple .swfs as the user progresses through the course. At the end, there is a quiz.
The quiz.swf uses the radiobutton component. I have developed some custom skins to use on the radiobutton component. I have figured out that: I have to add an instance of a radiobutton in the main .swf for the radiobuttons in the quiz .swf to show.I have to copy the radiobutton intance from the quiz swf library to the main swf library if I want my custom skins to show in the quiz swf While, this works fine. It is not practical. I want the quiz.swf to more modular. So I can pop it in to any course and not have to go back in and add the radiobutton skins to each course.
I Have 3 Movies:MAIN.SWF, contains loading movie actions for Nav.swf and Home.swf.NAV.SWF, contains navagation menu loaded on Level 2 in Main HOME.SWF, contains slideshow for home page loaded on Level 1 in Main In NAV.SWF, there is a MOVIE CLIP "graphmc", which contains a BUTTON "graphicbtn", When this button is clicked, I'd like the HOME.SWF (which is loaded into Main.swf on Level 1) to fade out and unload, and load and fade in Graphics.SWF in place of it.
Imagine the following setup. The main swf loads a child swf.In AS2 i would simply use _parent or _root to call the desired function. How can that be done in AS3?Can this still be done? Can I call a function on the main swf from the loaded one? How about the other way around, this time, from main to loaded swf?
Scenario: in MAIN file, i have a door, when door is open, we can see activities behind the door - LOADED SWF - when the door is shut i would like all the activities behind the door - LOADED SWF to stop
Problem: my first attempt was to REMOVECHILD when the door closed, however, still functions in child=loaded file are continuing Possible Solutions i had in mind: I assumed if PARENT, dispatches an event and CHILD listens, i can say, if the door is closed, dispatch event to the child to stop functions. but it doesnt work, because i assume i dont know how to listen for an event dispatched from parent
[Code]...
I am also open to any alternative solution that helps me shut off the activities when the door closes down, dispatching event was the first thought that came to my mind, not necessarily the only answer i m looking for.
I'm using a PreLoader as a parent SWF that loads the actual website as a child SWF. In the website SWF, the child SWF, will MovieClip(root) still work and refer to it's own root, or the PreLoader's root? And would I still access the websitite's document class (the child's document class), through MovieClip(root)? What if both files have a document class?So my main question is how do document classes and MovieClip(root) behave in the scenario when you have:
I have a basic xml driven portfolio. The xml file holds the path to the portfolio pieces (external .swfs). I have a main navigation that moves from project to project and a subnavigation to view individual pages of that project.The subnav is where I have the problem, I simply want to call gotoAndPlay("framelabel") of the designated mc. It seems that you can no longer call to the timeline of child movieclips as you could with AS 2. I've found some examples Except the examples discuss access of nested movieclips on the stage with assigned instance names. But the problem I'm facing is that I have each item pulled in via the loader Class then the objects are pushed into an array and my subnav needs to access them dynamically via array notation.something like this:
PHP Code: public function loadMe(){ //var l:Loader = new Loader();
I am loading external swf's into a main load.swf, using a Moviecliploader object. What I basically want to do is that, after an external movie, say home.swf, loads another external swf, say about.swf, home.swf should be unloaded.
home.swf is loading about.swf into the _root.mc_holder, which is placed inside load.swf. I want all external files to be placed within this holder. Now this is working with some files, but not with others. My standard code within all files is this:
//code within home.swf to load about.swf var loader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();var ldrlistener = new Object();loader.addListener(ldrlistener);ldrlistener.onLoadStart =
I'm working on a Flash MX application which involves a Parent movie and a Child movie.
I've loaded the Child movie into the Parent movie using LoadMovie. The instance name of the Child movie is Child1.
In the Child movie I have a user-defined function called getChildXML (we don't need to get into more details about the function).
The point here is that I want to call the getChildXML function from the Parent movie. I've tried something like Child1.getChildXML(); but with no luck.
[code]All clips are squared.Ok, on the PlayerPlane, there are little soldiers, which have hotkeys. The effect I'm trying to create is I want to position the GameStage so that the currently selected soldier appears in the center of the GameClicker clip.The GameStage is movable by the player (to scan other areas of the map)by holding the CTRL key, so it's easy to kinda lose track of where your players are.I have tried using localTo Global and globalToLocal techniques, but I think I'm lost on the actual math of getting the GameStage to move the correct distance so that the selected soldier is centered to the GameClicker.[code]
1) i have all my actions in its own layer on the main timeline, so all is well there
2) i have a movie clip with a rollOver and rollOut events attached to it
3) inside the movie clip when the rollover happens and the movieclip stops at a certain frame, i have another movieclip that appears. the movie clip is a link to a website, it works properly on the main timeline but without the proper actionscript it of course will not work inside its parent movie clip
say i have a main movie, into this movie is loaded another movie on level_1.
is there any actionscript that allows a button inside the loaded movie control the main movie? i.o.w. can a button inside the loaded movie tell the main movie to go to another scene?
+ i am looking for code for that same button to unload the movie it is in itself..
I am facing a issue in Flash container. I am having a project which has main container which call different SWFs into it. Now I call this main container file into another container, and their problem starts. Many option doesn't work properly which generally have _root, _parent etc...
If I want to run project (main container SWF and child SWFs) into another container file which place on a website. I want to show whole project from this container file so what I need to do?
I'm having a hard time working out the most appropriate way to move a child movieclip between parent objects.
I'm creating a board-game type game wherein I've dynamically created an array of 'Square' movieclips, with no visual elements, which are arranged in a 10x10 rectangle on the stage. I then dynamically add the appropriate types of piece movieclips to the various squares with the addChild() method. In general, a square should only have one child piece at a time.
All of this works well for setting up the play area, but now I'm having an issue with moving a piece from one square to another. I want to have the user click a square with a piece on it, then click the destination square to move the piece. I have the logic for determining where a user can move any given piece to, but I don't know how to actually move the piece.
The pieces are all different class objects that extend both a base class I call Piece as well as the MovieClip class. The main issue is that when dynamically adding the various pieces to the squares, I don't provide them a unique name to access them later. I don't bother with unique names because I have no way of knowing which piece instance will be in a given square, so using getChildByName(name:String) isn't very useful.
So I can think of two routes that I can take: Making a getter/setter for the Square class that manages a private Piece property (as well as the adding and removing of the child piece to/from the parent square), or using getChildAt(index:int) to try to access the child piece.
I want to go with the first route as it seems to be the most maintainable to me. My problem is that I can't work out how to manage empty squares in this scenario. My instinct is to null to private _piece property of one square once I've moved the child piece instance to another square... but I'm fairly certain that the private property is a reference type, and nulling it out will null the actual piece object even after it's changed parents.
My player movie clip has a smaller movieclip within it. Because the smaller movieclip is not within the parent clip it changes the x,y,width,and height value of the player movieclip and throwing everything off! To adjust I have to add (-2ndmovieclip.height) to everything i want to do. This is sloppy and I don't like it. Is there a better way to have a child within a movieclip without it affecting the parents properties? i want the parent to keep its original x,y,width,and height properties but the child keeps adding to them!
I am wondering how to correctly reference child/parent movie clips when creating event handlers? I have a button within a movie clip, which is within a movie clip.This is what my handler looks like right now:
The button instance name is ButtonSeats Problem is, I get this:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
Also, if I were to move the vent listener directly into the movie clip where the button is located, how could I reference the parent/ parent timeline(the main timeline)? Am I correct to understand that .this refers only to the current clip?
I load a movieclip via: on(release){ loadMovieNum("detection.swf", 1); } So I load it in my current timeline on level 1. Now in the detection.swf is a button that has to control the first movie. (that loaded the swf)
I tried: on(release){ _level0_root.nextScene(); } Which did not work. Referencing via _root.nextScene() also, because the loaded swf has its own _root. So how can I control the first movie out of the loaded one?
I got a "preloader" that creates an movieclip and loads an SWF. Now in the loaded SWF i want a close button to go back to the "preloader". The preloader isn't an actuall preloader but some sort of mainclip.Now i tried this:removeChild(MovieClip(e.currentTarget).parent.pare nt.parent)But i get error:ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild()at MethodInfo-6()
That class has a loop that creates / instantiates a number of copies of another movieclip from the library. This second movieclip has a textfield child in it. When I convert this textfield to a movieclip I can access the properties of it fine, but just as a dynamic textbox I can't access it.
This is the custom class of the second movieclip that gets instatiated a few times by the first custom class...
This custom class relates to a movieclip that has a child MC called recent_text (which I can access ok) and in that child is another child (a dynamic text field called "aDynamicTextBox", which I can't access)[code]...
