Professional :: Methods Used For Loading External Swfs And Assets?

Jun 29, 2010

My client wants to take all the Flash games on their website and put them on a portable device that's not connected to the internet. I need to make sure that the swfs are completely self contained, in that they do not require the internet to load any swfs or other assets. The client does not have any of the fla's, so my plan is to download the swf and decompile it with Sothink, and then search the AS for these methods:

URLRequest
loadMovie
loadMovieNum

If the search returns results then I'll assume the game is loading something and that game will not be used. The client doesn't want to put any development time into this, so it either goes on the portable as is or not at all.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Methods And Properties Via GetChildByName

Dec 2, 2007

I seem to be having a bit of a problem here. I'm generating a load of class instances using the following code:

maxpersons=25;
for (var i:Number=1;i<=maxpersons;i++)
{
var person:Person = new Person;

[Code].....

OK. I then need to run through each of them and check for a collision with an object from the main stage (called redDot), which I pass to a method (called doDamage) within the class. I'm using the following code:

for (i=1;i<=maxpersons;i++)
{
if (game.getChildByName("person"+i).hitTestObject(red Dot))
{
game.getChildByName("person"+i).doDamage(redDot);
}
}

I keep getting an error saying "1061: Call to a possibly undefined method doDamage through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject."!

It just won't work. I've tried altering the code to:

game["person"+i].doDamage(redDot);

but I get an unexpected trace output saying "TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties."

AS3 :: Flash - Accessing Object Methods Given As Value In Dictionary?

So I am writing a program which uses Dictionary to store objects. For example

var dictionary:Dictionary=new Dictionary();
var myObject = new myObject(var1, var2, var3);
dicionary["key"]=myObject;

where var1, var2, and var3 are simply means of assigning values to variables in myObject.can I access values or functions that are found in myObject? In myObject class I have some getters and setters. Can I use a getter to get the value of var1 for example.

dictionary["keys"].getVar1()?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Methods In Loaded Document Class

Feb 9, 2009

I'm trying to access an init method I've set in one of my document level classes.

Container Movie loads Main Movie, which has Main.as as its document class, but I want to do a few things before I show the actual content. Here are some functions in Container.as:

Code:
public function moveLogo(e:TimerEvent):void{
loadTxt.visible = false;
var logoMoveUp:Tween = new Tween(logoCont, "y", Back.easeIn, 221, -250, 1, true);

[Code].....

If I trace e.currentTarget.content.init on my EVENT.COMPLETE callback function, I get "function Function()" like I should.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Superclass Methods On An Externally-loaded SWF?

Jul 27, 2009

I'm trying to set up a large project that has a "shell" application that preloads and eventually displays a bunch of SWFs as a "slideshow". Each SWF could be authored by different people but will reference a base document class so they exhibit consistent behaviour. One of these behaviours is to be able to localise the slideshow into different languages. Since each SWF could have a different number of textfields that need to be localised embedded into their main timeline, the SWFs each must declare their stage instances in their document class. In order to implement the common functionality (such as a "localiseText()" method), I have decided to package all common functionality into a superclass (what I'm calling "Base Class" in this example) and using a subclass as each slide's document class.

This Example:This is a simple example I set up because in my actual project my compiler was throwing a coercion error when I tried to cast the Loader.content as my external class. The structure of this example is the following:

+ loader.fla : this is the main "shell" application.
+ SWFLoader.as : the Document Class for loader.fla
+ external_1.fla : this is the external SWF file that will get loaded and displayed

[code]....

I've set it up this way because a hypothetical external_2.fla might have different public variables to declare its stage instances so would need a separate implementation of ExternalBase (presumably External2.as).

The code (in reverse):

base/ExternalBase

[code]....

This just sets up the localiseText() method which is used in this example to change the contents of the text field. Since we don't know the name of the text field in the particular slide's timeline, we have to ask for it from the subclass' implementation of getLocalisableTextField(). We declare an abstract function here that needs to be overridden in the implementation.

[code]....

ActionScript 3.0 :: Meta Data And Loading Methods?

Aug 22, 2009

I'd like to be able to resize the stage according to the size (and aspect ratio) of the video - to do this so far I've been trying by using an external function call to javascript:

Code:
function onMetaData(info:Object):void {
objInfo = info;
ExternalInterface.call("videoPlayer.resizeVid", info.width, info.height, mcVideoControls.height);
tmrDisplay.start();
}

As you can see it happens on meta load, and in order to do that I have to attach the net stream, start playing the video to load the meta data, and then pause it:

Code:
ncConnection = new NetConnection();
ncConnection.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, netStatusHandler);
ncConnection.connect(null);

[code].....

What's happening is the player loads up at it's original size, and then with a jolt is resized as required, but responsiveness and load time of the video is very bad and hangs the browser quite easily...

1) Is there some sort of threaded pre-load I can use so that the video doesn't load with such a jolt and the responsiveness of the player isn't compromised

2) is there a way of obtaining the meta data of the video without loading it fully?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Import External Functions / Methods

Dec 29, 2010

I have a main actionscript file import other actionscript files into it to use their function. From the tutorials and training videos I have, other external classes apart from the document class always link to an object in the library or an object in the main.as is an instance of the other class, for example:[code]

The problem is I'm not creating any variables from the external class but only want to use the functions from it. When I test the movie, I get error 1180: Call to a possibly undefined method isPossibleNo, which is inside class ProjectileNo that is imported already.So my question is how I can use external functions without creating a new instance of the external class because they only hold calculation functions.

Javascript :: Exactly Are Flash External Callback Methods Triggered?

Jun 6, 2010

I have a flash application using callbacks to javascript functions (eg. when it receives some data over a socket, it'll call a js script which would change the content of a div according to that given data).

Afaik, there is no actual mutual exclusion in javascript so I'm not sure if I can/need to simulate something like :

So, the question is, when are those callbacks called ? Are they simply queued to be executed right after the browser finishes its task or are they triggered randomly ?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing A Loading Movie

ldr.content.stop()
ldr.contentLoaderInfo.content.stop()

Actionscript 3 :: Accessing/Scope With Loading Xml?

Aug 23, 2010

OK, it's probably easiest now to explain my problem like this, I am able to write the name of my xml file that needs to be loaded to a dynamic textfield on the stage, however, I don't seem to be able to access it after this and strip the necessary data from it, here's my code:

var tf:TextField = new TextField();
tf.autoSize=TextFieldAutoSize.LEFT;
tf.border=true;
addChild(tf);

[Code]...

So all I want to do now is to be able to achieve the same thing but loading the xml with loadvars as I did before, from my traces it seems there is a scope issue, but I'm not sure why if "c1" can be referenced like it is above..?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing MC On Stage From External SWF?

I need to load these heads in when required.. but each head.swf has a sprite called skinColor. need my main movie to have access to the skin layer sprite so i can Tween it. SWFs have much more details, but the skin sprite is on the bottom layer... so i cant just "color tween" the entire SWF.

CS3 : Accessing Data Loaded From External Textfile?

Mar 3, 2010

I'm trying to load data from an external textfile, called "config_flash.txt". It works perfectly if applying the fetched data is done within the same function where the loading is done. However, I would like to use the fetched variables in other parts of the script.

Here's what works:

Actionscript Code:
var varLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(new URLRequest("config_flash.txt"));varLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,

So, basically I want the variables/values defined inside the function to be available anywhere in the script. The error that the second code snippet causes is as follows: "1120: Access of undefined property text1/text2".

I have a container .swf that includes global controls (jump menu/volume control) and branding. Loading a swf for the dialogue boxes (timeline animated ... although I realize there may be better ways to handle it). Another swf for a simcity-ish illustration that has animated elements with various states. I need all to be able to communicate with each other. I was able to load the movies no problem. Even communicate with the loaded ones from the main timeline. Just need to be able to go the other way.
