I import my text from a external text file, my text is in html but i have to use a (& n b s p ; ) space to make sure that a part of my text will not drop down on the following line.The (& nbsp; ) code is not understood by flash and make all the following text desappeared.
View 5 RepliesWhen a user clicks on a link in the HTML page I want to place a SWF on the user's current page and load HTML content into the SWF (in a textArea). The HTML content comes from one of many HTML files sitting in a folder on the server, depending on the link that was clicked.
So obviously the link must contain the name of the desired HTML file. How can I take the contents of that file and send it to a SWF?

So I have a dynamic text field that is loading an external .txt file with html coding in it.I can get the text to load and display properly, however I now want to make a custom scrollbar and I have no clue how to even get it to work.I've tried a few things and just can't figure it out. I want to make a custom one instead of using the component one. It doesn't even have to be a traditional scrollbar, I would much rather just use an up and down arrows. View 3 RepliesI am trying to create html links from a external xml file to be dynamically added to a text field (im using flash builder)the process i am having trouble is: -Loading an external swf which contains the textfield loading external xml which contains the cdata with links adding the cdata to the htmltext property of the textfield the link is showing correctly, the mouse turns into a hand... but when i click on the link it doesnt work. i have seen a few forum posts similar to this problem but all are using textfield control in flash builder but im trying to add the cdata into an externally loaded swf which holds the textfield.

However this is creates problems since the swf soon crashes(with message :The Adobe Flash plugin has crashed) and gives error messages like "A script is becoming unresponsive...." Since rest of my site is pure html and js but flash content makes the site very sucking and I want to replace it with a simple better alternate. What options exist for me to replace flash content?
View 2 RepliesI am having a nightmare using CSS to style HTML within a dynamic textfield in my flash doc. From what i now understand after much trial and error and reading online, CSS doesn't even work properly in flash even for the tags that it does understand (which are few and far between anyway). For some reason my layout is getting completely screwed up in certain scenarios (predominantly when there are images present too) when i hover over links (which are styled in an external CSS file). If i remove the external CSS styling (which only contains the following simple code):
a:link {text-decoration: none;}
a:active {text-decoration: none;}
a:visited {text-decoration: none;}[code]....
Then everything works fine (but no links are underlined as standard or on hover). Does anyone know of any way to style the links without using an external CSS file (all i want to do is have no underline as standard and then underline them on hover). As this is from user input into a text editor I cannot place these links manually on the page in flash as they could be anywhere, I need a way of parsing the HTML and then displaying it accordingly.
I have used loadXMl.as file for XML to Object conversion till date. I am now converting the framework from AS1 to AS3.
Is there any alternate in AS3 for XML to Object conversion other than using the XML class. I am facing a lot of problems with XML class which I am not used to.

I've managed to piece together a flash website with my limited as3 knowledge. The text is loaded from external text files and styled with an external css file.
It's working perfectly in Firefox and Explorer but it only works SOME of the time in Safari (on my mac).It's hit and miss. Sometimes it styles the text sometimes it doesn't.

This code works perfect when testing, and it works perfect viewing the SWF, but when you view the HTML file with the SWF embedded, it doesn't display the text file content.

If not I know theres is the load feature where I can load text from a text file. With the html text box editing, Can i link that to the text file?. As in when you edit the text box with html could i have the textbox's instance name equal to the text file? With this my issue is with the <a href> in one textbox, I would like when i click those it open another text file in a different text box.
Clarification: I have two text boxes in my flash file.One has current products. And the other is the description of the product they select. I would like a way to edit and change the products in the first text box without having to keep using the FLA file. Which is why i am using this code

I need help getting it to show up in a text box.That is the first part But the main problem is im not sure how to code the a href correctly so that when i click it, another text file opens in the second text box.So that when a user clicks on a product ,like "Product 1" It opens the correct description text file in the second text box.

I came to a point where I am trying to do the simplest thing as embeding an external html file. I searched all over the net and found many threads tutorials, which none had what I needed. I basically have a html file with nothing but text, and a css file that styles it. How the heck do I embed that into flash, at a certain location, without is scrolling or anything like that?

This works fine when viewing the SWF applet on its own. But when viewing as a whole site, the text doesnt appear. Very annoying.I made that particular SWF on my mums computer running Flash MX 2004The flash file itself uses the Scrollbar component from MX.Could someone tell me why the text doesnt load in this scenario? I am having a couple of issues with dynamic text. I am loading fairly simple text documents, but am ending up with some font oddness. For example, I am using plain Arial in the CSS but am ending up with words running together. In the word "Oxygen" the "Oxy" letter spacing is really tight. Do I have something odd in the CSS? Pretty straightforward so I can't figure out why things look bad. Would embedding the font, even if it's arial, make any difference? How does that work in the code? I tried using the embedFonts = true; but that didn't seem to really do anything. So I'm thinking that perhaps I should be loading HTML or something for these external text files. These aren't huge, but several of them contain listings, headline, main body copy, sub head - the typical sort of thing on would find in a text file. Is there a good primer out there as to what works with CSS and text files or different ways of getting text files into Flash?

I want to get one line spacing between the lines, not two like a carriage return seems to give me. So I understand the way to do this is with Html rendering. So I click the html render button for my text box, add a '<br />' to my text file, but still no good - it just displays the '<br />'

I have testes with just the filename, with and without extension again.
The text box is Dynamic, with Multiline (with wrapping) and I did press the button that says allow html rendering.
I currently pull an html file into our site via iframe. (due to various factors, I cannot host the information in the html on our site and need to host it elsewhere). Is it possible to use a loader or other method to pull this information into flash?
