Php :: Create Date-dependant Function In Flash?
May 7, 2011
So here goes my stackoverflow debut... (And I tried searching and reading thru a lot of posts (php flash date) before asking this)I would like to make an swf that will find out what date it is and do sometinhg correspondingly. Eg. go to a specific frame or load a movieClip.I would also like to avoid the Actionscript "Date Class" because I need to feel fairly certain that my end user will see the swf of the day not of his/her local date-setting.So I'm thinking to somehow bring in php with 'echo date' inside the swf and then have the result create a goto-(or load-)command.
To make matters worse I have to rely only on code within the swf using ActionScript2 (in CS4 or 5). I am not able to publish any outside php (or any other code for that matter) so everything must be done internally. Only swf has to work regardless of server (I am expecting the server will work with php)So I hope some gurus here will be able to tell me:1. If this is possible2. How I make the date thing happen in Flash3. And how I somehow grab the date as a variable (?) and make that determine some action.

I need to create a timeline between 2 given dates, ie:2006-01-20 - 2009-02-14
The timeline must be drawn on a given width (can be altered), ie: 600px
But I need to add markers, one on year beginning, and others 4 times during the year (each 73 days aprox)

if for example the player moves, does it move him every x seconds or every x frames?like, if the flash game runs on somebody with fast computer and other has slow computer, so his game runs slower, so it can result in the player moving slower than the guy with the fast computer. so ya they'll move in 2 different speeds. in c++ you gotta add sort of timer for this so it depends on time incase the player lags or something. sometimes you gotta have 2 buffers for the screen, so while something is displayed on screen it loads the other buffer in the background, and then shows the finished loading buffer and so on. this way there are no graphic bugs.

I'm using flash CS4 and actionscript 2.0. I have a situation where I need to locate and check the date of an external file (either .exe or .swf) and return that date string to a variable in flash. I then need to display that date to a piece of dynamic text within the flash file. Is there a function within action script that will check and retrieve the file date of an external file.

Do you know any way to compare a date to a range of date using the Date class in as2.
For example i want to know a given day (11-12-2009) is among the start and end date of a given range (11-01-2009 to 11-20-2009).

I'm sure this is very simple---Unfortunatley, so I am and I can't figure it out.I just want to have a function called at 12am (or perhaps once an hour) -Im trying to use the Date() constructor, but the epoch milliseconds is endlessly confusing(to me)--This is the code I found and have been working with--For some reason--could anyone tell me why? I have to add 21 to the currentDay to get it to work correctly:
Code:
var myTimer:Timer=new Timer(0,999);
myTimer.addEventListener("timer", onAlarm);

What I'd like to do is create a countdown timer to a specific date, but from all the tutorials I've read, I can't seem to find one that will include milliseconds; only a Day:hour:min:sec format.What I'd like is an Hour:min:sec:milliseconds format (the milliseconds whilst considerably pointless, is an aesthetic choice - I'm hoping the frantically changing numbers will display a sense of urgency).I'm using Flash CS4, and the following Actionscript so far:
Actionscript Code:
var endDate:Date = new Date(2012,9,6);var countdownTimer:Timer = new Timer(1000);countdownTimer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, updateTime);countdownTimer.start();function updateTime(e:TimerEvent):void{ var now:Date = new Date(); var timeLeft:Number = endDate.getTime() - now.getTime(); var seconds:Number = Math.floor(timeLeft / 1000); var minutes:Number = Math.floor(seconds /

i need to convert a given number to a date via function...
what i mean is lets say i give a number 8 to a function and it returns the correct date from 8 days from today(a. la. 29/12/20012). as that seems simple enough i also need it to work when the number is 2000 with correct month etc..

coding, create a *******' timer to the exact time. I found billionsof tutorials to countdown to a day, but NOBODY can provide a sampleto countdown to a date and time (i.e. Dec. 25 @ 8PM).I need this to countdown to a TV show's premier. And I'm adesigner not a coder... so there has to be a FLA file out therethat I could snag and just update the graphics and plug in a timeand date, and then it counts down once I make a SWF?

I have a movieclip which has 3 frames inside it. These each have a movie clip on them which is different. There are three frames on the above layer. The first two have code on them which check the date and time and then skips to the next frame if a specified date is reached. The final frame is just a stop as its the final option. So Its works great in as2 but I am trying to rebuild in AS3. I think I am nearly there but since you cant have two of the same function its throwing a wobbler - also when I rename the 2nd function (on the 2nd frame) it wont compile correctly throwing all sorts of errors.
Code:
stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, functionOne);
function functionOne(event:ENTER_FRAME):void{
var today:Date = new Date ();
var currentYear = today.getFullYear()
var currentTime = today.getTime();
var targetDate:Date = new Date(2011,05,22);

I am trying to figure out a way to be able to trigger an event which will display a message. The only thing is that the date function does not seem to be equipped with the ability to set events to it. I read the reference to it on the Flash support site and it seems as it is usually only used for date stuff.
I downloaded a digital clock, but it seems as that is based on diffrent principals as it was simply iterating throught the if stmts

I've done the getting the time right bit and the ticking bit, but big problem arises with the background music. It's different every second, and what I want is that is it's launched at, say 19:00:00 the music will start at 00 seconds, if it's launched at 19:00:22 - at 22 seconds, at 19:00:45 - at 45 seconds etc. So far I have no idea how to do it, I am a total newbie in Flash..

recently I did a movie which had a maximum frame rate of 25 due to server restrictions. I wanted to animate something slowly but smoothly so used setInterval and updateAfterEvent to get the effect. But for some reason the sever wouldnt allow it and I was told it was because setInterval pushed the frame rate above the restriction

I'm currently using flash with a teleo board (hooks flash up to little electronic inputs) and im trying to use light dependant resistors to change the alpha of a mc.
The light dependant resistors give flash a reading between 0 and 32. 32 being bright light, 0 being complete darkness. Now I want to use those numbers to make an object 100% opaque in complete darkness (reading 0), and 0% in complete lightness (reading 32) then all percentages inbetween
['Code]...
Now that code works. but it does it the wrong way round. everything is 100% on reading 32. and everything is 0% on 0. I need reading 32 to = 0% and reading 0 to = 100%...im tired and can't see what to do to swap the figures around.

I've learned how to link XML to my FLA and have it populate info boxes. Its easy to do this at the state level but I'd now like to do this for all the counties in the US.I'd like to be able to mouse over a state and get information pertinent to each state (this I know how to do). When one clicks on the state, they'll then fly-in to a more zoomed level where they can see county-level information.Should I build this so that clicking on a state simply loads a new FLA specific to that state and its counties? This seems easy but clunkyIt seems smarter to have all the info in one FLA. When you click on a state, you'll zoom into that states level and then have the ability to click on counties and get their infoDoes anyone have suggestions as to what I should learn next to start making this thing scalable (i.e. how to click on a state and zoom-in)?

I have created a website 900px by 600px, and need to know how to make the site so that its size is dependant on the users resolution.( I have had complaints of the text being too big in 800 by 600, but too small in 1600px by 1200px) the site itself is created in flash 5 if that is of any use.(although wouldn't it be something more to do with the html coding?

I want the diameter of the 'balls' orbit to change dependant on the position of the mouse but keep the point of rotation exactly the middle of the stage at all times.I.e. if the mouse is hovering over the exact center (both X+Y) of the stage then the 'ball' should have a tiny diameter of rotation (but contstantly follows the orbit in clockwise direction) whilst if you move the mouse towards the edge of the stage then the diameter of the orbit of the ball will increase.Here is the AS which controls a blank movieclip;

I have a XML file with a few concert dates. In my flash/AS3 file, I would like to show only the up coming event, relative to current date. Like this:
Event 01: 30-05-2010
Event 02: 02-06-2010
Event 03: 05-06-2010
Today is 28-05-2010, so I need to list Event 01. On 01-06-2010 I need to list Event 02. I have the basic AS3 code for listing the XML working, but I'm having trouble filtering the result.
