What is the best way to populate a multiple Comboboxes when using Flex 4.5 and PHP 5?
I am developing a Flex app that displays about 20 Comboboxes on the screen - each combo showing different data. I would like all of the comboboxes to be populated at once when the app starts. I used the default "Data/Service" wizard in Flex that automatically creates the PHP that returns an ArrayCollection to Flex. For example, below is the current PHP function I use that populates each ComboBox:

I have an Flex-Object with for example 3 properties.
myObj.prop1
myObj.prop2
myObj.prop3
I like to generate 3 Comboboxes to show the data.
No problem if I do it hardcoded in sourcecode.
But how can I find the prop1 to prop3 at runtime?
If next time I have 5 properties with different name it should generate 5 combos.

I use a rather big font size and the bottom of some characters is truncated ("g" for example, or any character going under the baseline):
I first thought it was a problem with the component height, but even with a very large height the characters got truncated, with big empty spaces above and under the text. I looked for a solution on the net but did not find one. Worst: I was not able to find references to my problem though it seems to be an important one. Is there a CSS property to prevent this behavior or do I have to look elsewhere?
edit: I use Flex 3 and Halo/MX components

I have 25 dynamic text fields. If I could, I'd just assign their text by calling the array in the text property var, but that doesn't work.My text field variables are simply B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, I1, I2, I3, I4. . . (I'm populating a bingo card)I'm using 5 Arrays to get the 25 numbers. bArray, iArray. . . and so on.Now, obviously I can fill in my text fields by assigning each variable separately, however, I'd like a shorter solution.Instead of coding B1=bArray[0], B2 =bArray[1] I was looking for a way to assign all the variables in a for loop... or something...

I want to addChild this Symbol to an MC on the stage like this:

All good! Except I want to do the same thing, the same way, with this.pccard1.sprite_, and several more. When I do so, parcher0 only shows up on the final, most recently assigned addChild().
Is it forbidden to add a Symbol in this way in more than one place, and if so how do I get around it without creating a raft of arbitrary duplicates?

In my main .fla file I have a movie clip onstage called "square". The movieclip is empty. Below that are five buttons (black, red, blue, green, remove) which, depending on the color button clicked, would load into the empty "square" clip either a movie called "black_square.swf", "red_square.swf", "blue_square.swf" or "green_square.swf". Only one such movie at a time is loaded into the clip. Clicking the "remove" button empties the clip. I've also got a "submit" button, which, when I click it, I'd want to submit the name of whatever .swf file happens to be loaded to a database. If nothing is loaded I want the record created to show the "square" movieclip was empty.
I've been able to make an application that has a central movie clip containing 20-something other clips. The application lets people create their own design of a particular item, choosing the colors of every component to this item (each of which is loaded into its own component-specific movie clip). One of the movie clips can be populated by a .jpg or .png file a user himself uploads. Once finished, people can print or save this design by choosing the appropriate button on this app. What I'm trying to do is find a way to also pass this design, created from multiple movie clips into a central clip, into a database as well.
The movie clips are "driven" by 21 color chip buttons each which has an instance name of a color, i.e. "black", "brown", "dark_green", etc. By a series of switch/case statements, when one clicks a "component" button (there are approximately 13-15 components) they load into the clips a movie named "(model)_(view)_(component)_(color (event.target.name)).swf". There are many "models" to choose from but within the stage only one "model" is selected at a time, so that wouldn't change here.
The design can be viewed from front, back, left or right, so that's what the "view" is - the colored components that are the same save for the view (i.e., an object which can be seen from either the front or left view) are loaded into movie clips that are either visible or invisible depending on which view one selects. Is there a way I can attach a variable name to a movie clip which is selected (bearing in mind that the application viewer can change the color of each component (and therefore the clip loaded) at will) to be read by the database? Or would the name of whatever movie clip itself that happens to be loaded be sufficient? "populating a database from contents of a movie clip".

I am displaying a combo box in something of a WYSIWYG preview. I want the user to be able to click on the combo box and see the options inside, but I don't want them to be able to change the value. I tried using preventDefault() on the change event but it doesn't work. I don't want to disable it because I do want the user to be able to "look inside" the dropdown.
So I'm trying to block the change, but can't. My next resort is to change the selected index back to what it was before the change, Is there any way to do this within the scope of a ListEvent.CHANGE event listener?
Current Workaround is to basically re-assign the controls selected item the same way I am defining the selected item when I originally build it (a default selection). So a user sees their change then it immediately changes back to the default selection.

I'm having a problem displaying data from a function to text box within a tab. If you run the code and click "Select Tab 2 and Fill..." I get an error; "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." I'm guessing this is because "Tab 2" is/was not rendered yet. Now if I run the code, select "Tab 2" then select "Tab 1" and click "Select Tab 2 and Fill..." it works the way I would like. Dose any one know a way around this problem.

I'm having trouble getting an AdvancedDataGrid to populate properly within an app I'm working on.If I use the sample code found on this page http:[url].... in it's own page everything works fine but if I copy this code into the page within my app that needs to have the grid the column headers/data are not populated.The page that needs the grid is displayed within a Spark NavigatorContent element, I'm not sure if this could somehow adversely effect the AdvancedDataGrid behaviour.I've even simplified the contained page to have just the sample code without anything else and it still does not work. info needed here,

I am trying to figure out how to manage a Datagrid based on an XML object like this:

I currently am able to create the Datagrid and populate its column headers but I am unsure as to how to how to add the rows for each column. The above XML will be update with new row and column elements added and deleted. This, of course, will be bound to the Datagrid to show updates.

I'm using php to pass FlashVars to my movie for a list of courses and dates - this works fine.The data from FlashVars comes in as simple strings.I then want to use two comboboxes to list the courses and the dates those courses are available.I tried this and MANY other versions but to no avail..I've also been playing withComboBox.removeItemAt() and ComboBoxReplaceItemAT() but again to no avail.

I'm trying to duplicate comboboxes in a for loop. The comboboxes are populated with data using the additem function from an array of information. The first combobox is in place at runtime and populated with the data and then, after a user selects how many comboboxes he wants, I run a function to duplicate it. this is the easy part. Everything is duplicated as expected, but as for the data in the duplicated comboboxes, there is no data inside of them!

I want 3 comboBoxes. The choices in the first and second will determine what will be displayed in the 3rd box. E.g.
1st box - Choose a genre of music (Rock; Pop; Dance etc.)
2nd box - Choose your county
3rd box will display a list of gigs of your chosen genre in the county selected.
Upon choosing a listing in the 3rd box a dynamic text box will display details (address; contact number; price; web address etc).

Basically what I am doing is a ui for a electronic book. The book is broken into 3 parts and each part has its own set of chapters. My xml schema is pasted below. And what I would like is to have two comboBoxes. The first one would list the names of the parts available, i.e.. Part I, Part II, Part III. The Second one would list the chapters avalable under that part. For example, If Part i, is selected then the second combo box would list chapter 1-5, while if the second part is selected, the second combo box would list chapters 6-10. I am using flash 8 pro, and the xmlconnector and comboboxes.

i've searched for several hours, and didn't find an answer for my problem. i'm trying to place comboboxes in a datagrid filled with DYNAMIC data. (the number and the content of these comboboxes always change. i don't know in advance how many columns there are, where i need to use comboboxes. so every single combobox gets a unique dataprovider, which comes from an external source, WHEN the program runs.)
-i found MANY threads discussing this problem, but solving via crappy mxml files, filling the comboboxes inside the sourcecode by hand. i want to point out, that isn't good for me.
-i found a better solution, in which they used some sort of custom itemrenderer to get the data from the internet. (kind of a country chooser thing) but sadly that wasn't good enough, because the number and name of the countries in the world are static more or less, they don't change. so their renderer class didn't depend on any parameters from the main algorithm.
but in my program i calculate the data in my own actionscript objects, then fill an arraylist with that. so at the beginning i load the desired data from the net, and when i get the response of the urlrequest, AFTER that i start to populate the datagrid/combobox.
i can fill any datagrid or combobox without trouble, but to put that combobox inside a datagrid cell seems to be impossible.it drives me crazy. i managed to do this in several languages before, c#, java, even php+html, but in flex it looks way too complicated then it should be.

I am trying to use the load method of FileReference object to load the data and use it to display a thumbnail of the selected image.However, after calling fr.load(), fr.data remains null.I'm using Flex Builder 3.0.2 on Windows 7 with Flex SDK 3.4 and Flash Player 10 Debug. I want a chart that has several separate series running in rows across. They are largely separate charts and should not overlap, but all share the same horizontal datetimeaxis. They don't share the same y-axis, however and that's where I'm getting stuck.I have tried having a linechart series and then a plotchart series, but it will only allow a single <mx:series> per chart without having them inside the same series which as far as I can tell will place the charts on top of each other in the z-axis. I can stack them and have them completely separate charts, but it was proving to be somewhat irritating having them align correctly.
Is there any reasonable way of combining multiple charts into one like this? Basically having rows in a table where each row is a different chart but the columns are consistent. or am I going to be best served just by stacking separate ones? an illustration of what i'm going for is here: http:[url]........
