Ruby :: Framework Similar To The Flash Player Capabilities?

Dec 14, 2011

Is there an open source Ruby framework that allows working with multimedia (video, sound, etc) similar to Flash, including Display Object hierarchy, that is not targeted for video games?

I'm looking for something between Ruby/Processing with a more object oriented API.

Framework Similar To Adobe Flex With HTML5?

Dec 28, 2011

is there a framework that is similar to Adobe Flex written in HTML5? My app currently support having multiple objects on the screen where user can drag / drop / resize and rotate them in scrapbook fashion. There are few animations as well. Flex makes it easy to build such apps. I was wondering if there is a good framework I can use to ease up such task maybe with HTML5 so it can be used on mobile devices.

Asp.net :: Creating A Framework For Web Forms Similar To Flex States?

Apr 13, 2010

You define a few states for your control, and then can set child controls to only appear in certain states. Check out this code:

<s:states>
<s:State name="signin"/>
<s:State name="register"/>
</s:states>

[code]...

Now the last name form will only appear in the register screen. This would be really useful I think in .NET where you use the page for views like update / insert. I was considering extending the Page element to have a states property using extension methods, and adding the include in to controls. This way I could auto-hide controls based on the current view at render time.

What is even cooler in Flex, is that you can use different handlers / properties based on the current state.

<s:Button label="Sign in" label.register="Register" id="loginButton"
enabled="true" click.signin="signin()" click.register="register()"/>

Ruby :: Flash Communication Options For 2-player-games?

Feb 12, 2010

I am currently working on a project that embeds a flash game, that uses Smartfoxserver for the flash communication. That communication is mostly just synchronizing the cursor and object movements between the two players.Since I am not a flash guy, but a ruby programmer, I got curious: What kind of communication options does flash offer for this kind of time sensitive data exchange? I was thinking of writing a ruby-eventmachine based communication server to minimize the dependencies on external programs.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Capabilities Of Flash Professional And Builder 4?

Oct 23, 2010

I recently purchased the CS5 Master Collection and am struggling to understand the uses for Flash Professional and Flash Builder 4.  I was inspired by Jay Pavlina's Super Mario Crossover game and wish to make similar applications.

However, I am confused about whether I should be using Flash Professional or Flash Builder 4 or both?  I purchased the two books that Jay Pavlina recommended "ActionScript 3.0 Animation Making Things Move!" and "Essential ActionScript 3.0".  I've been trying to find resources that will help me understand exactly the purpose of each of these applications.  It appears to me that ActionScript 3.0 is used in both?  So which one should I be using?  Or both?  Or is one more design oriented and the other more development oriented?  Can one make flash game like Jay's using just one or the other?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Kind Of 3D Capabilities Can Flash Support?

Jan 30, 2012

I'm wondering if anyone might be able to give me a general overview on the state of implementing 3d in flash. More specifically, realtime 3D rendering on the fly, for something like making a game engine.not that i'm planning to start work on any projects on the subject just now, but i'd like to know if it's worth considering some 3D work in futurethus far i've only seen two games which use 3D in flash:This one is a strange car driving game. Three things strike me right away:1. The player's car is just a wireframe, and has a very simple mesh2. All the level components are just planed, with a few exceptions3. Most of the ground parts share the same texture.

Maybe i'm reading too much into it, but to me these things suggest some pretty heavy resource limitations.The other one is: htthis is an fps, of sorts. Again some things stick out glaringly, and i'm not certain whether they're design choices or working around limitations:1. Generally low poly models, things look blocky2. low res textures too3.Fixed camera angle.it reminds me of the sort of graphical quality we had when 3D was first being introduced to mainstream PC gaming. Are these games a good representation of the kind of 3D rendering flash can currently handle? Is it possible to make things much more detailed, that can run smoothly on average hardware?

Ruby On Rails :: Using Flash And Cross Domain?

Nov 14, 2010

I'm running a rails3 project with an external asset host for all javascript, images, swfs etc. This is on a completely different domain. So know I tried to embed some SWFs using swfobject. In development (same host) everything works fine, but in production (different hosts) it doesn't start the flash (firebug shows the file is loaded but nothing appears on the page). I already put this crossdomain.xml file in the root of the asset host but it does not change anything at all.

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.adobe.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
<cross-domain-policy>
<allow-access-from domain="*" />

[code]....

What can I do to make it work? The SWFs I'm using are not developed by me, so I cannot change them. Some are simple sounds, others are videos and small "apps". I don't want to have to make rails serve the swfs.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Ruby Controller Won't Redirect Page With Flash?

Oct 15, 2008

i am trying to build a site using ruby on rails and flash. i am trying to build a login page and i have my flash component with two text fields for user name and password. when the submit button is pressed, it sends the login info typed in to the text fields to the ruby controller via xml through a URLLoader. the controller then looks at this info and determines if it is correct or not and if it is, then it attempts to redirect the page in the view to another part of the website.

this is where the problem comes in. when the page is being redirected, it gets stuck and just says "transfering data from host" at the bottom but never redirects the page. this is all still on a local machine so it is not some sort of communication problem with the server. also if i replace the flash component with plain html it will redirect just fine. in addition to this, if i make it redirect from withen the flash component using navigateToURL that will work as well. the information is also getting sent correctly because it is setting off a COMPLETE event.

I need a flexible way to generate S3 policy files, base64 encode them, and then distribute the resulting signed policy to the client.

Is there a good library/gem for this, or do I need to roll my own?

I'll be using paperclip to store the file, as per: [URL]

Ruby On Rails :: Handle HTTPStatus Response 201 With AS3 / Flash / SWFUpload?

Nov 27, 2009

I'm using SWFUpload on a Rails site to allow for MP3 Uploads direct to Sound Cloud. To avoid having to first upload a large file to my server and push to Sound Cloud, I'm hitting their API directly via SWFUpload, passing necessary OAuth token data.Everything works - EXCEPT - Flash can't handle the HTTP response code that Sound Cloud's API returns (201). This ALWAYS triggers an unhandled IO Error with Flash. Even though SWFUpload allows me to override that in the JS, it breaks any response data (the URI to the uploaded file).

how I could somehow intercept the 201 code so that I can make it a 200 code for flash? I'm at a loss at how I can avoid this IO Error. I've tried try/catch statements around everything and have even recompiled SWFUpload to try new things to no avail.
