Xml Actionscript 3 :: Xml - Traverse E4X In For Loops Or Similar?
Apr 9, 2010
I am using AS3 to traverse through XML but the Flash help is really insufficient here. Do you know any easy-to-read tutorial on how to traverse E4X in for loops or similar?

I'm stucked here. I want the font type "BauhausMedium" to apply when ft_01 is clicked, font type "Haettenschweiler" to apply when ft_02 is clicked, etc... at the same time I want all" ft_01a", "ft_02a", "ft_03a" movieclips to hide except for the movieclip similar to the clicked button. E.g. if "ft_02" was clicked ft_02a to be visible =true and rest to be visible = false (ft_01a, ft_03a).

var myXML:XML = <root>
<first>
<a title = "First Letter">
[Code]...
i would like to traverse the above XML searching only for an attribute. i don't know about <first> or its children (<a> and <b>), or even which level the element containing the attribute (the XML can be much deeper than my example).
it seems that the descendent accessor does not work with finding elements based on their attribute. for example, i want to traverse the XML and find the element with the attribute "Second Letter".
trace(myXML..(@title == "Second Letter"));
is it not possible to traverse an XML from the root and locate an element by an attribute?

I am dynamically creating a UI component based on XML templates stored in database. Now I want to access one of the child component of this UIComponent Class. I dont see any children property in this class? How could I possibly traverse through each child comppnent of this class and set its properties according to some logic in code(which I could not do in templates itself).

I have some kind of UIComponent grouping which may look something like this with the classes "Group" and "Element". Groups can have children and children may be elements or groups again, basically similar to a file system or the str+g group function in several graphics programs. The simplest form of a group is a group with only children which are also the most low level groups in the tree.
The display hierarchy is already existant, i try to persist it to xml.
Group
- element
- Group
- element
- Group
-element
-element
- element
- element
I want to rebuild this structure in an xml-document for persistence. I know how to build an xml document in Flex but not how to (recursively) traverse this n-tree correctly. For getting only the child nodes one could make use of the following algorithm (pseudo code). But somehow I don't understand how to create the xml from this.
walkTree(group) {
children = node.getChildren
if(children != null) {
for(int i=0; i<children.length; i++) {
if(children[i].isGroup()) {
walkTree(group[i]);
} else {
trace(child);
}}}}

I need to add accessibility to a flash program which I have created. I can make the screen reader state all of the different buttons and at the top level of a combobox. However if I traverse the combobox none of the items are mentioned by the screenreader. I've tried various things down to trying to set the accessibility properties of the combobox items as though they were an array
cb[0].accessibilityProperties = accessProps0; but nothing seems to work.

I have the following code...

The point of this code is to be able to search through previously duplicated movie clips to find the one that I am trying to access.... it doesn't seem to be working even though I have a similar routine that does seem to work. Anyone know of a better way to access/traverse the available movie clips to find the one I want?

I have a solid programming base (C, C++ and C#). I was looking for some Flash samples over the Internet and I found a Flash Carousel but my doubt doesn't regard it but something simpler than that.
Consider the following sample: http[url]...., when the user clicks on any of the buttons of this carousel a screen is opened with the corresponding image on it but the user still can see the background because the opened screen has an alpha (close button and a legend). I'd like to know how that is done, I've seen this kind of behavior in many galleries and stuff on the Internet but I don't know how that is called and how to create a similar screen.

I am making a game and it has falling objects (similar to shooting) and it also has some other random generating objects going to the other direction. So the objects aren't already on the stage. I was wondering if when I spawn them if I could put them in an array or something and check collision between the two arrays or what?

I'm trying to create a number of similar variables using a for loop, rather than having to explicitly write out each variable. For instance, I need 9 variables called zone1, zone2, zone3 etc. So rather than writing it out like so...ActionScript Code:public var zone0:Zone = new Zone(); public var zone1:Zone = new Zone(); public var zone2:Zone = new Zone();// etc. etc. After a look around on the internet, I came up with this, however, it doesn't work...ActionScript Code:for (var i:uint = 0; i<=8; i++)public var this["zone" + i]:Zone = new Zone

I'm trying to figure out how to replicate an effect I've seen on the adidas site and another site. I'm not too sure what the effect is called or where to start looking for guidance on doing it myself so I thought i'd start here for some help or a point in the right direction. I think it might be called a mosaic but not sure.
An example of what I'm trying to[URL].. It basically takes some images, expands them on rollover to reveal some text also moving or covering surround images.

In the article kirupa wrote called, "Photo Gallery Using XML and Flash" link he had the following function:
Code:
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
filesize = picture.getBytesTotal();
loaded = picture.getBytesLoaded();

I'm using the below code to have a button that adds a MC to the stage. The problem is that I have over a dozen of these buttons and I'd rather not have to write out the event listener and function for every single button. Is there a way to use a single function for all the buttons and just change what MC is added based on which button is clicked? So if the user clicks on the draw5 button the function adds the deck5 MC to the stage?[code]

I want to implement something similar to MAC OS X Time Machine in terms of having time-line on the page side and then clicking on a specific day will pull a page from the server.
I have good experience with Ruby on Rails. I'm less experienced with GUI design and was wondering what in your opinion is the optimum way to do something like that. Couple of ideas came to mind:
- Use Adobe Flex (or maybe Silverlight?)
- Use JQuery (or similar JavaScript library)
- Use something like Objective JavaScript

I have a string that is similar to a path, but I have tried some regex patterns that are supposed to parse paths and they don't quite work.
Here's the string
f|MyApparel/Templates/Events/
I need the "name parts" between the slashes.
I tried (w+) but the array came back [0] = "f" and [1] = "f".
I tested the pattern on [URL] and it seems to work correctly.
Here's the AS code:
var pattern : RegExp = /(w+)/g;
var hierarchy : Array = pattern.exec(params.category_id);
params.name = hierarchy.pop() as String;

For developing Flash / ActionScript packages on Windows, there is no better free tool than FlashDevelop.Unfortunately, its reliance on the .Net framework make it ill-suited for AS3 development on Ubuntu. (My attempts to get it working with Mono failed - the installer wouldn't even work.)Is there a similar tool for use with Ubuntu?

In HTML/CSS, if you float items, DIV's that exceed the width of the container are moved down 1 line.
I would like to achieve this in FLEX. I have 3 components with variable width. I would like for the 3rd component to be moved down when it doesnt fit the container any more.

I wanted to create a Flex LinkBar that looks similar to the iGoogle links. The links are expandable (one level-deep) by clicking on a plus button. I've considered styling a Tree or Accordion to get the desired look and feel. But before I spend time on one approach versus another, I thought to ask first. Does anyone know a component that I could use to achieve this? Or an example of someone doing a similar vertical navigation bar? It should only be one level deep and some parent nodes might not have children (doesn't expand).
