AS :: Javascript - Differences Between Regular Expressions In Java And ECMA-262

Jun 22, 2011

I need to convert Java regular expressions into Actionscript regular expressions. There apparently aren't any premade converters, so I'm trying to write one myself. Is there any resource that'd list all the differences? I'm aware of regular-expressions.info, but there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive listing of differences there.

Regex :: Twitter Regular Expressions?

I need 3 different regular expressions one that finds at the beginning of the string a 'D' and a space then a name, so 'D patrickgates hello there' would return 'D patrickgates', or if all possible would return just 'patrickgates' one that will find the @ sign and a name together anywhere in the string so '@patrickgates hello, world' would work and return '@patrickgates' or if at all possible would return just 'patrickgates' one that will find 'RT' and a space and then '@' and the username at the beginning of the string so 'RT @patrickgates' would work if returning just the username and also being true isn't possible with one regex, then I could use one to match to, and one that will delete the 'D' or the '@' or the 'RT'.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Regular Expressions - Width Value And The Block Id Value In Two Strings?

Aug 13, 2011

I have two strings.One looks like this.

Code:
[12] => Array ( [type] => 2 [name] => Width [value] => 3 )
The other looks like this.

Code:
[13] => Array ( [type] => 7 [name] => Blocks [value] => Array (
[0] => 4
[1] => 4[code].....

In those two strings, I need the Width value and the Block id value. Since the Width only has one value, I am going to put it in an int while the Block values are going into a Vector. Now...how in the world do I get the necessarily information out of this mess.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Using Regular Expressions With String Replace Method?

Aug 26, 2009

I'm trying to use regular expressions with the String.replace() method to manipulate a string to replace all instances of a forward slash "/" with a period "."

So for instance, if I start with this String:
"things/stuff/cheese/yum"

I want to convert it to:
"things.stuff.cheese.yum"

Easy enough if I want to replace a letter... let's say I wanted to replace all instances of the letter "e", I would do this:
Code:
var str:String = "things/stuff/cheese/yum";
var myPattern:RegExp = /e/g;
trace(str.replace(myPattern, "."));
// returns: "things/stuff/ch..s./yum"
... but how do I replace all instances of "/"??

Java :: Intercepting Date Objects Coming From BlazeDS And Adjusting For Timezone Differences?

Oct 27, 2010

I am working on an application that is near the end of its development cycle and has mostly passed user testing. We recently realized that having flex convert dates to the client's local timezone is not desired, as all of our dates are in EST and contain no time data. Since BlazeDS sends dates in UTC, this results in the dates being converted to the day before in timezones west of EST.

The best solution is to go in and refactor all dates to adjust for the timezone offset, but that is just not doable at this stage. Since all dates in our application don't care about time, I would really like to be able to intercept all Date objects that come across BlazeDS and adjust for the timezone offset.

Java :: Load External Page HTML Via Javascript Or Flash Or Java?

Nov 13, 2011

I need to load somehow the html code of a webpage A into a javascript string of another webpage B, on a different host. I know this is impossible to do with javascript alone because of the same origin policy, and I know I could do it loading the page via php on my server and then send results back to the user's client but I wouldn't be able to handle so many requests, so I need it to be done directly by the user's browser. I can use nearly whatever browser scripting language/applet framework common enough to be installed on the majority of my users' computers, like flash and java.On example, what if I use flash or java to load the external html code and then call a javascript callback function providing the source? Could this work?

Javascript :: Get A Regular Expression That Finds Urls?

Jun 27, 2011

Example: "My site is [URL] and yours is [URL]. Is Fred's [URL]? Or is it[URL]? (I thought his site was [URL], but clearly it's not."

This should extract

[URL]

Notes: it should assume that any punctuation following the url is NOT part of the url, e.g. the comma after [URL], is not part of the url. This includes trailing question marks, which I realize in actuality COULD be part of the url. Of course, if a question mark is followed by querystring data, it SHOULD be considered part of the url. Note that urls might be followed by multiple punctuation marks, as in the the case of (Is your url[URL])?

Urls (and their trailing punctuation, if any) will always be followed by a space, a newline/return character -- or they'll be the end of the string being tested.The will be preceded by a whitespace character or, possibly, an open bracket or parenthesis, as in "Please visit my site [URL]." Or they'll come at the beginning of the string.This regexp should work for http, https and ftp.This is for an Actionscript project. I believe that Actionscript uses the same regular-expression engine as Javascript.

[myTextObject setString: @"Hello World" color: kWhiteColor];

In Actionscript(or javascript) would this be the same as calling 2 accessor methods on 'myTextObject'?
ie

myTextObject.setString("Hello World")
myTextObject.color(kWhiteColor);

Flash :: Javascript - How Does A Browser Interact With A Player Or A Java Applet

Nov 9, 2010

I've been trying to understand how flash animations or a Java Applet work within a browser. I can think of a couple of ways - The Flash Player/Java Applet are machine code that's dynamically linked it, and given some parameters about the area of the screen that belongs to them; after that, they run within the same process space. The browser exposes an API that the player/applet use to talk to it and they live in a separate process. (Presumably they talk via sockets?) The API could correspond to openGL/X11/some custom calls.

These possibilities still don't explain things like how a button click can make the player full-screen, how it can play music, how it can inspect the DOM, etc. For that matter, is the video displayed by decoding to a sequence of images, and rendering them one at a time, or is there a more efficient way, e.g., of pushing the deltas in the image? The Wikipedia page on Java Applets

(1) talks about how the applet is run in a sandbox (presumably a separate process), but it doesn't say how the browser and the applet communicate. Perhaps the answer depends on the underlying platform?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Arbitrary Expressions In Function Calls?

Nov 25, 2009

I have several custom functions that I import as .as files, but I frequently have to modify them to suit projects, which makes standardization and version tracking harder.Is there a way to pass arbitrary expressions to a function when it's called? For example, if I write the function,

Code:
function foo(){
for(i=1; i<=1; i++){
trace(i);
}
}

would there be some way to attach an additional expression after the trace function during the function call? As in,

Code:

foo(do_stuff_here);

where the function would act as if it had said,

Code:
function foo(){
for(i=1; i<=1; i++){
trace(i);

[code]....

but without modifying the original function?I realize I could add an expression to the original function within a conditional, and toggle it via an argument within the call, but since I don't know what I'll add next, or whether I'll need it next time, this would become impractical quickly.

Differences Between Flash Player 6 And 7+

Dec 29, 2009

I used Jamie Durrant's tutorial for making a chat bot in flash. Everything works fine, but one thing which makes the bot remember people works only if the fla file is published in Flash Player 6 version. There are 4 symbols: a button, user, reply and custid: user is the textbox where the user inbuts the text, reply is the textbox that displays the bot's reply and custid displays the id of each person. If the version is newer than flash player 6 it says "undefined". It's a local shared object, I think. Could this code be edited to work in later versions or I have to stick with flash player 6 (the graphics are worse even at lossless compression)[code]
