i need to load some text from an xml document, lets call it 'textfile1.xml' into a text feild in flash. has anyone got the peice of code i put into the flash key frame to call and load the xml?
View 1 Repliesin my projects i often use some xml files to load external text that i can format in css and it worked fine till now..i have a site that i am prograaming in italian and german and in both languages there is much text that contains special characters as "à " "ò" "è" "ù" "ä" "ü" and so on .. the problem is that when i write some text with this special characters in xml when the text is loaded in the flash this special characters are not recognised and instead of them a small square is displayed ..
i tryed to load the text from a html file instead of a xml file (because in HTML i know how to write theese special characters and let them display right in my html pages .. for example à = à but no way .. the flash now loades the text à instead of à ..

I'm a total rookie working with flash and i'm wondering if theres a way to call in text from an external file. I'm building a news feed on my companies home page, and I'd like to be able to have my boss edit it easily 'cause he doesn't know how to use flash.

From all the documentation and examples I can find, it appears that it would be
correct to create a global array variable [outside of any functions] to load image names into, then use these images for a slideshow. I want to make the app dynamic, in that changing the text file gives a new set of images.
The global variable goes null [no values] after the load event listener. Why is that?
Isn't global, well global, and alive for the duration of the SWF?

How do I access these values after loading from the external file, after the load?
I downloaded a flash template that includes a text file that it uses to load the content. So, I opened the text file and started to make changes to certain text and when I view the changes I noticed that certain letters and characters are not being displayed such as the letter w and the question mark ? and other letetrs.here is an example of the text I included in the text file:

I've been searching to find a simple answer to external preloaders, but it seems there are many ways to accomplish this with ac3.
I am new to as3 and this is what I've come up with so far:

Everything else is working except my dynamic text that should also be calculating the % of loading.
I have a files that is loading and parsing a huge amount of data from a csv file and creating and plotting a graph using the data. All is well if I have the file loaded on the first frame of the movie. But if I pass in the URL by entering the file name in a text input field and clicking a button. The X and Y axis values disappear as do intermittent notes placed above the bar graph. I still see the x and y axis and it's hash marks and the bar graph (shapes) but all of the text is gone.

View 7 RepliesI just upgraded to flash player 10.1 and there's an issue with a program that I've been working on. I'm copying text from a mysql table that is formatted with spaces and newlines (including spaces and newlines at the beginning of the text) into a textArea in Flex 3.5. Before the update,it worked fine. Now when AS retrieves the text from the table, it does not include the spaces and newlines at the beginning of the text.I'm using xml to retrieve the text.

If not I know theres is the load feature where I can load text from a text file. With the html text box editing, Can i link that to the text file?. As in when you edit the text box with html could i have the textbox's instance name equal to the text file? Clarification: I have two text boxes in my flash file.One has current products. And the other is the description of the product they select. I would like a way to edit and change the products in the first text box without having to keep using the FLA file. Which is why i am using this code

The contents of myText.txt are <a href=(not sure what to put here)> Product 1 </a> But all that does is put it in the text output section in flash.It does not show it in flash. I need help getting it to show up in a text box.That is the first part But the main problem is im not sure how to code the a href correctly so that when i click it, another text file opens in the second text box.So that when a user clicks on a product ,like "Product 1" It opens the correct description text file in the second text box.
I'm loading a external text file to flash and according to the number present in the text file i'm trying to do a IF - ELSE command. It's not working coz the value I load from the external file is string. How can i get this as intiger.

Just been to a clients and it did it on their computer also. I use SlideshowPro and Flash Eff with Flash CS4 so not mega into doing Flash from scratch so go easy on me if this requires some mad code or something.
My swf files are loading in via a swf loader, the pages load in fine. However the loaded swf is squashed, eithen tho the loader and the swf are the same width and height.The page is loading in at the right point on the left, however it does not go to the end of the swf loader on the right. It squashed it so its not to the point where it needs to be. It works fine in the individual swf, however when loaded in it gets squashed and the text looks distorted.
View 2 RepliesSo I made a flash that uses a preloader, then once finished loading mc1 should be visible and playing along with a couple buttons. It loads properly most of the time, but maybe 10% of the time mc2 loads instead of mc1, no buttons are visible, and mc2 isn't even playing (refreshing the browser makes everything work properly btw). Is there some way I can make it load properly 100% of the time?

I promptly downloaded CS5.5 (thinking that was the right one) and spent hours on my animation. the problem is that when you open the swf it starts downloading the hole flash site and when you press enter the site is already loaded and you can't see the progress bar of the preloader..i want only the 1 frame of the main scene to be loded, then i want i to stop loading (downloading) the SWF file until enter is pressed.when enter is pressed i want the flash site to be loaded and so you can see the preloader in action..can i put some code on the action layer on the 1 frame that stops loading the movie (the first frame is loaded and the blur effect of the logo plays).and another code on the second frame (where the preloader is visible) that starts the donwloading again?
I am building a website entirely out of flash. I know thats not a great idea, but it is not the biggest website in the world, however it does contain seven or eight .sws that take some time to load.When I test the website via a cable connection (T1), the speed of opening the website is not bad, but on DSL pretty slow.I dot want to turn people away from my site how can I make sure my flash site doest load that slow? Ie read somewhere that if you put all the .Ss into one master file it could make the site load faster.seen some flash websites that are big and their files load

And it opens twice No matter, what new .swf I am creating, it's always this old file that will start.When opening the same .swf in FPlayer 9, it works fine.

Situation: Work on a file, save it, and close it (example file is stored on local drive). Attempt to reload the file using the recent items list from the splash screen:

This is the file just saved by Flash... and it cannot locate it. I can browse with File > Open, so it is not a critical work loss or stoppage issue, but it is annoying that it happens. It only seems to affect Flash as InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop behave as expected with the recent files. It seems to be able to find files saved to a network location, but not to the local machine (in this case a folder on the desktop). I tried renaming the "Working Files" folder to remove the space, but the issue persists. I tried a search but didn't get any hits that seemed relevant.
My sample is below. How do I code the below to have the text in the qoutes, wrap?
