ActionScript 1/2 :: Flash - Buttons To Load New SWF In Placeholder Movieclip?
Jul 21, 2009
All of this is actionscript 2, NOT 3. I have my opening page which is one big SWF with flash buttons on it. When this swf loads, I have a action on frame 1 of my timeline that reads:It loads the swf into the movieclip placeholder and plays just fine!My problem now seems to be understanding proper syntax for button actions. My objective is to have each flash button load a different SWF into the placeHolder_mc, but it's not working.I've tried:on (press) {loadMovie("about.swf", "placeHolder");}but it doesn't work at all. I've even tried variations, but I really seem to be overlooking something probably due to lack of knowledge.
I got one movieclip with several buttons and another movieclip where i use: this.loadMovie("news1.swf"); What Id like to do is, if its possible, to do, on the main timeline, assign, to the buttons what news.swf to load into the other movieclip where i load it. So i can assign one button to load news1.swf and another load news2.swf.
i want to ask how to make a placeHolder in flash actionscript 3..,what i do need to know is that how to sett a placeholder width and height:confused::confused::confused:
Code: import flash.display.*; var placeHolder:Sprite = new Sprite();
I am going out of my mind trying to get this to work. I can do it in AS2 without a hitch - but not AS3.I just need to load an external swf file into an empty movieclip. Then I have 2 buttons play and pause that need to be on the top layer of the new movie and they need to play and pause the loaded swf file.

I'm using swfobject, and in the replacement div I have a message for those who don't have Flash or JS support. The replacement div contains a message like "You don't have Flash player, please download here" - my concern here, is that Google will see and index this message, which is not relevant to the content of the page, and it's going to affect the search ranking.
Is there some way to mark a piece of content to be ignored by Google? My guess is no.
But then how do you go about placing a message like this without having it indexed?
My only idea is to use an iframe with nofollow. But then Google will penalize any site that uses frames, so that's not a good option either.
I have a movieClip in my library that I am loading into a scrollPane. When I click on the scrollPane I want to know the name of the target I am clicking on. I am trying event.currentTarget but all that I get in the output box is ObjectMovieClip. I want to use one function for all my buttons so when I click on them it loads another movieClip in my library. I realize I could make 3 separate functions, but I'ld like to use just one.
if you open up the TEST.swf you can see how I want my transition to look like.. everything works perfectly.. then if you open the Load.swf and click one of those red buttons.. it loads up the external swf.. but if you click another button it loads up the same external thing.the difference between Load.swf and TEST.swf is that in Load.swf is container in which the TEST.swf is loaded..
I have a swf file loading over the top of a background graphic. The swf only covers part of the background... the part that I want to animate. My intention was that the background graphic would load quickly (it does) and that's what the visitor would see until the swf file completely loads and shows itself seamlessly over the top of the graphic. It would be seamless to the visitor because the swf image is identical to and matches to the background. So from the visitor's perspective, they would see a static image until the swf loads and then see part of that seemingly same image begin to animate.
However, what happens is that the background image loads and then a big black box (where the swf is loading) appears over the background until the swf file is completely loaded.I have tried setting my swf background to transparent, but that does not work.Does anyone know a way to prevent the black box (of the loading swf) from showing over my background image while the swf file loads?
I've been having a small problem loading movieClips into a placeholder. Right now I'm dynamicly creating a thumbnail gallery of images, and I want theese thumbnails to be displayed in full size in a placeholder. I just can't figure out how to put the selected movieClip into the placeholder.[code]

I just can't figure out how to put the selected movieClip into the placeholder.Here's the code used for generating the thumbnails:
Code: myData = new LoadVars(); // myData.load("getpictues.php")
is there a way to specify the size of the image placeholder with SWFObject?Basically I want to scale up the size of the image in flashvars.[code]No one knows if this is doable?
So I have this flash site, I have a video placeholder in it, that directs to a .flv outside flash, everything works perfectly. But now I want a button, and that when I press it, it goes to the next video. So this is the code I have so far.
ActionScript Code: stop(); var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();
I have done work in dreamweaver before but decided to try and move into the flash scene some. Well I'm putting together a multimedia photography site and made a slide show with Flash Slideshow Maker Professional to create a .swf slideshow file. I am using actionscript 2 and have a placeholder with the instance name of empty. So the script I'm using is:
I've set-up a custom scroll bar from an on-line tutorial. I have put placeholder text (I have proper text to fill in later) into a static text field that is inside a movie clip on the main timeline which can scroll with as2 however only shows 2/3 of the text. I've tried to see if there is a character limit for the field?
Ok, here's the deal. I want to generate a maximum of 5 childs in a clip called 'placeholder' using a button (placeCloud_1). the childs will 'float' to the top of the stage. when the y=0 the child must be removed (using the function checkPos() ) so i can add another child without exceding the number of 5 childs.
I have continued to find a resolution and have had no luck. My website has 5 flash buttons (tabs) to take you to a new html page. Each time you go to a page the button seems to have to re-load creating a "white blinking" inside the cell. The background of the fla file is black and I have the table cell background set to black hoping thatbut to no avail. I thought once a swf is loaded it won't have to re-load. The swf files are the same on all pages
What I want is "simple", That if I click the "nxt" button, it loads the next picture in the xml. And the "prv" button goes backwards. AS3 Code PHP Code:

Everything works, except for the removeChild! i've tried removeChild(this) , this.removeChild(this), parent.this.removeChild(this), parent.this.removeChild(mc), placeholder.removeChild(this) etc... and nothing works. When using (this) it throws TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert global@2f6710d1 to flash.display.DisplayObject. at MethodInfo-251()
when using (mc) it throws
ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller. at flash.display: DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild() at MethodInfo-251()
I have 10 buttons on my homepage and I want to play the same movieclip when you click on a button and after that move to a specific frame for each different button.
Someone know an easy to make this without having to create 10 differents movieclips just to change the action at the end of the movieclip?
want to load a html page in a iframe when i click a flash button.
My code for the iframe:
[Code]....
Shouldn't that be alright? I've tried with _IFRAME too, but didn't work out. Instead of opening in the iframe, it opens in a new window. My flash button is on the main page, not in a iframe and the iframe is on the mainpage too.

I was looking to make 2 buttons; one that hides a movieclip that is playing on a slide, and one that shows it again. I've heard theres a few ways to do this but none of them are making much sense to me (i previously made some buttons that play, pause and stop a movieclip, and I think I am stuck in the wrong frame of mind to do these next 2 buttons...) How to tackle this task.
I am trying to make an index page with buttons for a photography site.the entire page is built in flash so far.I have created a drop down menu that is a Movieclip with 5 buttons.I can not seem to assign an external web page to each buttons that are under the movie clip drop down menu. Is this a possible? The Movie clip is run by mouse-over the word "studio Gallery" button. This drops down the 5 gallerbuttons (Portrait, children, wedding, Artistic Babies, etc...). In Flash 8 Pro I know I can assign an external web page named children on the main page but how do I assign these to the buttons in the drop down once the movieclip is made. Is this where I need to use folders with extra layers in the folder to make it work?
