ActionScript 1/2 :: Preloader Doesn't Load Until File Is Completely Loaded
Mar 7, 2012
So I am having a problem with the flash file at this site: [URL]
Everything is working fine, except for the preloader, which only seems to load after the entire file is 100% loaded, which leaves people who visit the site staring at a black screen for quite some time... The code on the preloader frames is as follows:
frame 1 (which has the background for the preloader/ actual load bar etc}
var percent:Number = Math.floor(getBytesLoaded()/ getBytesTotal()*100);
textBox.text = percent + "%";
textBox._alpha = 80;
[Code]....
Also, if you want to check out the actual program just click when you get to the main screen and click to create new shape (mouse x and y change opacity and speed respectivly) I'm using actionscript 2
Ok, so I have tried and tried to figure this out. Of course in the test environment everything works beautifully, but when I test my swf on my site, thats when the sh*t hits the fan.
The problem is my buffer bar wont show up until the video is completly loaded. In flash however, it loads across as the video is downloaded, like it's supposed to.
Go to my site to see what I am talking about. The loader bar appears uder the progress bar, exactly like on youtube. www.blankensteincreations.com
I have developed a small website in flash 8 ... - The website has content (text) which is loaded externally - The images are also called externally with 'loader' component - I have added a preloader at the beginning of my file But still when I loaded it on the server....the images and the content is coming slowly. Some way to load the whole file completely at the time of loading (including the external content)?
ActionScript Code: var loader:Loader = new Loader(); loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, progressHandler); loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, completeHandler); loader.load(new URLRequest("Solar.swf"));
[Code]....
When i test the movie the background image is loaded, but when i simulate the download ( so as to check how the preloader works ) the image "NightSky.jpg" doesn't load and there is an error in the output panel. This is the error:
Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2036: Load Never Completed.
All the files and the image are in the same file on my computer.
why the preloader script below might not be working correctly in all browsers? It definitely loads the files properly, but the progress bar does not show in firefox. It just shows a blank screen until the files are 100% loaded, then the enter site logo appears.
I have tried the following things:
1. Using relative vs absolute file paths for the external swfs makes no difference to the behaviour.
2. Changed publish settings to export AS classes in other than the first frame - didn't have any anyway. No change.
3. Unchecked "export in first frame" for absolutely everything. Tried both checking and unchecking this for the actual loader_mc. No change.
I'd post my fla instead of code, but I'm using Flash 8 and can't save any earlier than MX2004 and people don't really seem to look at them that much when I post them. If anyone would like to see, I will upload.
I'm using a preloader on my website. The preloader works fine on Internet Explorer, however when I tested it in Mozilla and on a Mac (running Netscape) there is a lockup on the preloader. The screen will just sit there and the website doesn't load. Both were running Flash Player 6 which is the version I'm aiming for. I found that if I refreshed the page the site would begin to work, but I doubt visitors to my site would do this and I don't want it to be required to get my site to work. I'm going to post the code I'm using below. Heres the action script - from the first frame of my launch movie
I have a .fla that has a preloader on frame one and the rest of the file on frames 2 thru 55. The preloader code is the one that comes in Flash cs5's sample files. there is a movie clip with the instance name lbar and text with the name lpc. here is the code
stop(); import flash.display.*; this.stop
[code]...
It works fine the first time people are on my site but when the page is refreshed or is gone back to sometimes the loader bar is just stuck and doesnt load.
I just tested out my site in Firefox and IE. Everything works the way I want it to in Firefox but in IE I'm having trouble. When I click on a button my preloader shows up but doesn't stop to load the content, it plays straight through and then my movie pops up. Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've never encountered this problem before.

Web Design, Illustration, Resume and Downloads are all I have working so far.
I'm building a flash movie for something at work and im loading in some images using an XML file but when i use a preloader it only preloads the XML file (as in just the text inside) and not the images.
This causes the movie to start playing without having the images loaded.Does anyone have any ideas about how i could get it to preload the contents/images being called in the XML file so it doesn't run as soon as the XML file is loaded.
I have completed the xml thumbnail gallery and it works standalone. I want to load it into another swf which is part of my main movie. The only problem is that when i do this the XML doesnt seem to load. If anyone could shed some light on this, that would be great. U can dl the FLA's below. Completed Gal here. Loaded into another clip here.
For the application that I am developing in AIR, I have removed the chrome through the app.xml. I am managing the features of minimizing, maximizing, close, resize and all other functions from within the application. I am facing a problem with resize feature. I have defined the grips for resizing and also I am able to display my custom cursor when mouse moves over it. The problem is that only the part of this cursor is visible which lies inside the boundary of the application rest of the cursor image is hidden.For implementing the custom cursor, I do the following.Embed the cursor image.
[Embed(source='/resources/images/resize_right.png')] public var resizeRight:Class;
Add the event listener to the canvas that acts as a grip.
I have a FLash project with a preloader, but the preloader doesnt appear until 70% of the file has loaded, which is useless of course... is there anyway of loading up and displaying the Movie Clip contaning the main graphic Preloader so it doesnt appear too late?
I have been looking for a way to show a preloader before the external SWF file loaded but unfortunately I had no luck as of yet!!I have a button that loads a few external files in some empty MCs. I just want to show a small preloader before the external SWF files loaded?
I have a Flex application that loads some data from the database. During this I want my custom preloader stay visible. When I postpone the dispatchEvent( new Event(Event.COMPLETE)) in the FlexEvent.INIT_COMPLETE handler, the loading will never happen because the next frame is not entered. How can I keep the loader running until all the data is fully loaded?
I'm creating a movie with heavy animation and audio in Flash CS4. I have a preloader that I purchased from flash den.com and I believe it's pre set to begin the movie when the total file is done loading. But I want the movie to begin when half the total .swf file is loaded. Here is my code on frame 1
i try to implement a preloader for my site but i have the following problems:once the preloader is finished it opens my external swf but this one appears below the preloader and very little in the window (almost smaller than my preloader size)
I have a preloader.swf that loads another swf (main.swf). It all works fine, however I would like the loading bar to stay on 100 (once it gets there) for 2-3 seconds before the main.swf opens, currently as expected from the code below, as soon as it gets to 100% it flicks straight over to the main.swf.
I am using tweener, and I could achieve this easily using the onComplete code to call this.addChild(loader);, however, the problem is, both my preloader and my main swf are liquid layouts, and if I were to call the this.addChild(loader); at the end in its own function, then it throws a
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
. The only way to get around this error is to put the this.addChild(loader); so that it loads upfront. After a bit of google research, i found this error occurs due to the stage properties already been set in the preloader.swf (from liquid layout)then once the main.swf loads it tries to set them again...So is there another way i can cause a delay for 2-3 seconds once my preloader hits 100?
Below is my preloader code with liquid layout settings
1. using my tweener onComplete method and fixing the error caused by preexisting stage properties
2. Thinking of an alternate way to delay the main.swf from opening straight away (keeping in mind that this.addChild(loader); would need to stay where it is...
PS - here is a link to a person who was getting the #1009 error with preloader and liquid layout, their solution works, but won't allow me to use a tweener delay...[URL]
I would like a button to create a preloader and load a swf file.this is what i wrote in AS.it tells me that script is ok so I'm not sure what is the problem.
I created a movie that loads an XML file into flash and then.. does stuff with it (Like put text into text fields) My problem is that it works when I test it on my computer, but when I upload it and test it on my website, the XML file doesnt load. The movie is the XML load into has been loaded dynamically, as has the one above it (Like this: Lobby Clip > Games room clip > newgames Clip)
I want a mask to go over some words in relation to the percentage of the file loaded. Below it I want text that says 1%, 2%, 3%, etc. (also in relation to the percentage loaded). But when I test it and click "simulate download," the screen stays white for about 10 seconds then goes to frame 2 where my content starts.?! I get no errors, either. PS: on Flash CS5, is TLF text the same as Dynamic? For "percentage," the only two options are Classic and TLF...
I watch the video tutorial of Mr. Lee Brimelow, I follow the tutorials but I encountered an error the loaded swf file doesn't start at frame 1 it jumps up to 115 frames.preloader.flamain.fla - animation starts at frame 115main.fla containts different scenes.
I am trying to load several swf files into various containers. In one scene I have used the following: createEmptyMovieClip("container1", 1);loadMovie("MC.swf", "container1");
And I want to wait for it to load complete before moving to the next scene and doing the following one... createEmptyMovieClip("container2", 2);loadMovie("MC2.swf", "container2");
I am currently working with Flex 4. I successfully use custom preloader by s:application ... preloader="path"..., but i want the preloader to load external file as well, can it do that? How can i call the variables in the preloader?
I have a basic site for an old age home. Recently I decided to put a Flash Movie on the Homepage but even though all files are loaded and links correct it won't show in either IE or Firefox...
The movie should be loading here (...bellvilleseniorsentrum.com/engels/home.html)
There is a white space where the movie should be loading... But it doesn't...
I've done lots of sites with the same kind of movies and they all work fine... But this ons just doesn't work. It views fine when I test it on my computer but as soon as I load it - nothing...
I follow this turtoliar Loading External Texts into Flash Using the LoadVars() Class
Everything works great it load the txt file but the problem is that if i insert a lot of text inside in txt file and open the flash it load only some lines and the it cut them.
I've looked around and tried various examples that I've seen, but none of them seem to work with "simulate download".It doesn't seem like the swf does anything before it's completely loaded. It doesn't even display the background, just plain white.It also doesn't execute any code, so the event listeners I've seen used for preloaders don't work until the swf is completely loaded.Do I need to somehow designate a section of code to execute before the swf is fully loaded? How do I do that?
