I have been trying to use the .embedFonts with a chinese font but this does not appear to work. When I use an english font, no problems there, its just when I try any non English font, nothing appears.
View 1 Repliesthe embed fonts stuff in flash, it sometimes works and then again it does not. my problem I need to embed a greek font to be used with the List Component. what I did so far:
1. library-> new Font ( Named it myFont, exported it as:MyFont )
2. put a list comp on stage called it myList
3. got a xml file called index.xml encoded in UTF-8 (so it displays greek chars) that gets loaded (makes no diff if you use component inspector to insert the labels)
4. set system.codepage to false;

what it does not work. I am at a loss as to how to get this to work. I am attaching the file and the font used. (verdana arial should work too, but even they don't embed)
Mabe it has something to do with the xml encoding, but if you try to just copy the greek characters into the component inspectors lable field they are still not displayed. So I guess xml encoding is not the problem.
I'm using the font Arial Unicode MS to display Chinese characters. I'm not embedding it. I'll use Actionscript to build TextFields and populate them dynamically with data with Chinese characters.For delivery on western systems, I can set the font property in TextFormat objects to [code]Can I do that on Chinese language operating systems or do I need to use the Chinese characters instead of "Arial Unicode MS" to define the font property?[code]If it's the latter, does anyone have those characters handy (the example above is a different font name) if they'll display here? They're visible in the font menu in Flash CS5, but I can't copy them from there.

The TextField is created in AS3, I got new font called Sunset inside library and embedFonts set to true, but nothing works, there is no errors and the text is still invisible

View 4 RepliesI'm on a mac using CS5/AS3 and I'm having trouble getting the ® symbol to display in a dynamic textfield embedded with a Chinese font (Hei - but others fail as well). I can type the ® symbol into the textfield in the authoring tool, the problem occurs when dynamically populating the textfield via XML at runtime. I have tried multiple Chinese fonts, multiple encoding types in the XML (unicode, html, etc) and all characters are embedded properly as far as I can tell. I'm not having font trouble in general, all other characters and symbols I have tried work fine except for the registered trademark,
View 1 RepliesI am having a problem using embedFonts. It just won't work. At first I thought it was something in my code, but it seems to be working fine except for the embed. So I went through the help doc on it and even using the example code it won't work. I am guessing it must be how I am setting up the font in the library. So here is what I am doing. I have one application that needs saving some text to local file folder, the text may include chinese words, and i found Flex's FileReference.save can do the job. But the problem is when i opened the saved file with Wordpad, the chinese words does not show correctly, but Notepad can show the text correctly.
From Adobe's help document about FileReference.save, "If the value is a String, it is saved as a UTF-8 text file."So i think it is probably an encoding problem, but why Wordpad and Notepad behaviors differently, did they use different encoding? what encoding did they use ?
I have a font, Trade Gothic LH, which I was using with a project. I exported it and it worked fine throughout the development.Yesterday I packed up for a business trip (pretty sure that has nothing to do with the problem, just saying...), and when I got here to work on it some more... that particular font does not work at all. Any text which uses that font class either does not appear at all or appears as default Times font. Also, other text that was in another exported font, Orator, was 'smeared' badly.After much time spent troubleshooting, I discovered that ONLY the Trade Gothic LH font, when I did a trace on it (trace myFont.fontName), came up 'null'. Every other font, the font name shows up when traced.The Orator problem resolved with a restart of Flash (CS4). But I'm still stuck unable to use Trade Gothic LH. It's not a total showstopper, I found another font that is similar enough. But why? WHY? why can't I suddenly not use this font? I'm starting to wonder if I should just completely re-install Flash? Don't want to... but this is ridiculous.
Also I've noticed that when I quit and restart Flash all my exported fonts under "Linkage" in the Library, it just says "Export:". The class name is not there unless I go through each font's properties screen again. This does not seem to affect publishing at all. But why would the Library not show the linkage?
I am trying to get my Trebuchet font working for several different styles in a single fla. I am using Flash CS5 and AS3, but I mustpublish it in flash player 9, so TLF-text is out. I am really confused and irritated by this.The fields are placed on the stage manually and must be able to handle htmlText.I embed all 3 fonts in the library but it doesnt work. If I only use one of the fields, and therefore only one style, it works great.
View 3 Repliesi have this weird problem. I have a major project, no details needed except that it is split to many SWFs, and so - I would like to use a Shared Library to embed the fonts. Done - sl_fonts.swf loaded, fonts - checked and working, the rest of the SWFs are loaded AFTER (checked by a preloader).
Now - again, I traced the result of the request to the font, it is all like
DEBUG: REQUEST ArialBlack RETURN [class EMArialBlack] (main.swf)
DEBUG: GOT [class EMArialBlack] (loaded.swf)
The loaded SWF file requested for ArialBlack and it seems that it got an answer - EMArialBlack, which is the embedded font's class.
The weird thing is that when I put this return to a TextFormat's .font, it does not really work. I even traced the TextFormat.font after setting it to the return. It actually traced [class EMArialBlack]. BUT when I set this TextFormat to a TextField it does not work? If embedFonts is off, it has no result (it keeps the old _sans placeholder font). If it is on, no text is shown at all.
1. I need to put different font style in one single dynamic textfield. For example,the text is :"Welcome, Fred" and I want Fred to be bold and use "Vernada" as its font while others are left as "Arial"2. I am using embeded fonts and htmltext here, the strings are loaded from external xml files3. I found in the doc that the font tag could do this. So I set the embeded fonts to "Arial" for the dynamic textfield and add <FONT ACE="Vernada">Fred</FONT>in the xml files, but it will not show "Fred" at all4. Of course I added both "Arial" and "Vernada" into the library.5. The problem is when I change the embeded fonts into "Vernada" for the dynamic textfield and modify the xml like <FONT FACE="Vernada" SIZE="25">Fred</FONT>, it works this time. I mean the character size changed to 256. My conclusion is that the font tag only works when its font-family setting for its textfild is as the same that you want to set.

I'm trying to embed a font in my project by using url("font.ttf") rather than local("Font Name"), but it doesn't seem to pick it up. The font in question is called "Gotham Bold". When i view the details of the font, the font weight is regular, however when i use local("Gotham Bold") in the css i have to specify fontWeight: bold or else it wont pick it up. But when I use url("folderGotham-Bold.ttf"), and specify fontWeight: bold, it says that font weight is not found for that TTF. If i remove the fontweight, there's no errors, but the font is not applied to the text.

I have found a few of these LCD/CALCULATOR font types.. and thought I had one that would work.. but it does not. I need a fixed width font..(in hopes) so that when I animate it..

will keeps it positioning! and NOT change 'alingment' when (say) a 0 becomes a 1. this shifts the whole textField. my questions are:
1.) is there a fixed width type font or other trick? (using the spacing or A/V parameter) to keep the characters in their positions? or will I need to break everything up and use individual text fields..and parse/split the numbers from the string?
So we have a component we have written ourselves that deals with text display and translation between languages, reading translations from a file. Ideally what we would like to do is have this component be compatible with any font we can embed in the main .swf's library. What's the best way to do that?
Currently we are going down the route of having our component have an attribute for the font name, lets say 'Font1'. We drag the component into the .FLA file we want and then add a new font to the library called 'Font1' and set it to the typeface we want. This is proving to be inconsistent and problematic which implies it's not really an ideal way of doing it.
Is there anyway to achieve the feature we want? The key is flexibility, we want to easily support languages (hence the component) but we don't want design to be limited in their font selection. Its not practical to embed a range of fonts in the component for example, as it adds to file size and is restrictive.

I'm having a couple of problems. One is that in my custom MovieClip class, I have a textbox that refuses to show up when embedFonts is true, but is otherwise fine when it is left alone. The second is that for some reason, I can't access a method in this custom class from the main class (AT least I think that's what's wrong). It gives me an error:

I am reading some CDATA text from an XML file. This text has HTML tags in it.I want to place this text into a dynamically created textfield that has embedFonts set to true. However,when I set this to true, the html formatting doesn't work. Instead, I only see the text without any of the formating.
Now, when I comment out my embendFonts = true statement, the html formatting works, but I loose my linked, library font. (Since the font Futura is on my machine, it stil uses a jaggy (system?) version of it, I'm assuming this would be a problem on a different machine).Is it possible to use embedFonts with htmlText? Am I calling this stuff in the wrong order?

Here it is. I need to embed a font. Else, when displayed if the user does not have it, in my case Frutiger STD, it will not display correctlty. I also need to use the htmlText to render bold and italic and other tags. Problem is usign both togetter. If I set the textfield htmlText and I use the embedFont = true, no bold or italic appears. Text is displayed, but in the normal weigth only.So, it's like html does not support the embed .how to make Html works with embededFonts?

so I'm making a site with 4 main buttons. Each of them send you to the sub-section and I'm making the sub-category buttons from 4 arrays with the names of each subCat and a .duplicatMovieClip loop. My problem is that I can't get the font I'm using (Adobe "Myriad Web Bold") to display those subCat... I tried using a "dummy" dynamic text field off stage with embedded font as well as adding/linking the font into the library. When I do a "Size Report" the font seem to be embedded but the text doesn't show up. When I set ".embedFonts = true;" to "false" then the text comes back (but in device font of course...)

I've added Helvetica to my Library. I've set it to export for Actionscript. I've given it the name 'Helvetica'. I'm setting the defaultTextFormat. Then I tell it to embedFonts, and the bloody textfield doesn't show up.

have anyone encountered the issue wherein using a dynamic textfield without embedding fonts causing the flash movie to resize in a very slow manner ( i resize the textfield by using the scaleX and scaleY property, i have also tried using the width and height property but its just the same result)? if i try to set the textfield's embedFonts property to true then there will be no problem when resizing but once i set embedFonts to false then the flash window seems to resize bit by bit
View 1 Replieswhat I am trying to do is to load HTML content from an XML file and put it in a TextField object I create dynamically. After all this is done, clicking on a button fades the TextField object out and another TextField with new content appears.I've got the whole process working fine, including the fading. And to get the fading to work, I've actually had to set my dynamic TextField objects' embedFonts property to TRUE.Now here's the hiccup:
When embedFonts is FALSE, Flash displays the TextField's HTML content properly. The text flows properly and looks as expected. The only downside is that the fade effect doesn't work.When embedFonts is TRUE, the fade effects works perfectly, but Flash displays the TextField's HTML content with a bunch of extra spaces between some of the letters. The line height seems to be different also.The odd thing is that when I debug the code to look at the styles, in both instances of embedFonts set to TRUE or FALSE, the styles are exactly the same. But Flash is rendering the HTML with different kerning and line height in each of the scenarios.
I've been searching all morning for this solution and can't find any. The closest one is this:[URL]..But it won't work for me. I have an XML that has some characters in Chinese, I can use any of these (one with the characters directly there, and the other with the characters in html)[URL]..The problem is that I can't display the characters on a Flash dynamic text box..
I have tried with sans font, trbuchet, tahoma, all embeding all of the chinese options...
