I've had a Flash website up and running for about a year which includes an external text file linked to a dynamic text field.
Everything worked well until I recently added content to the external text file.
Suddenly, the file won't load in flash.
If I play around and cut a line here or there, it sometimes loads. Sometimes not. Sometimes it looks like there might be a character limit. Sometimes it looks like flash might be having a problem with certain characters.
So my questions are:
1.) Does Flash have a limit on the amount of characters that can be displayed in a dynamic field.
2.) If so, can this be changed with as3?
I'm making a post-apocalyptic series and I'm drawing all my backgrounds/characters in photoshop and importing them into flash. The problem I'm encountering is that the file size is WAAAAAAAAY too big whenever I import the character drawing straight from photoshop. Is there some trick to making characters look like they're drawn in photoshop or some trick to greatly lowering the file size? Three items on screen at once with no animation and my file size is over 1 meg.

I am guessing you would have to somehow check through ecach character to see if it was a " " with an if else statement.. but that would take forever.. so.. =S

I have a 9 frames image of a character.In other language generally i used to make character animation by looping the array consisting of different frames and drawing each frame when pressing key.What i want to do is when i press left or right key, i want to draw each frame that makes character movement and update x coordinates of frames, and it will appear as character is moving.

I created an input text box, and depending on what the user enters, it will create a file with that same name. However, for some reason, it's deleting the last character of the filename when it creates the file. For example, if you type "House" in the input text box, then the file that it will create will say "Hous.txt"What is causing this and how can it be fixed?

I am not well versed with RegExp.I have a DYNAMIC string representing full file path which looks exactly like "d: empabc.doc". I want to extract the filename part from complete string e.g. abc.doc.I am aware of techniques like using "fullPath.lastIndexOf("\")" or regular expressions. The problem is it doesn't seem to work if you have "" in your path. It works with "/". The path being dynamic can't be manipulated to replace "" with "/" or any other delimiter. My interpretation is that since "" is used to escape characters - ANY character appearing AFTER "" is ignored by actionscript. e.g.[code]

Is there a character or word limit for the dynamic text box in Flash CS5? I am using Classic Text and am copying a large amount of text (about 4,700 words or 31,740 characers with spaces) into the text field, but the text is cut off at a certain point (at about 2,600 words or 17,795 characters). I'm using a UIScrollbar on the text box.The full text can be copied into Flash CS3 but not CS5 so what is going on? Did Adobe create a word limit in the new version? is there some other way around this, other than splitting up the text into 2 text fields? I should note that I cannot use TLF text for compatibility issues in case that is a possible solution.
View 3 RepliesI'm using an auto complete component and a labelFunction so that user have the ability to search by their name or id. Once the search is completed I'd like to extract the data to a query.
The only problem is that I only need the name or id for the query not both, so I'd like to pull from just the id variable...
Currently if the user types - Joe or if they type - 13
Both would return a result of Joe - 13 via the auto complete component.
I'm using a dash - To separate the results visually. So I'd like to know if theres a way to extract text from a text field up to a certain character in this case a dash.
I am trying to get the position of the last character in the text field. The below script works fine till I change the width of the text from 110 to 109 or add some extra characters in the text field. For some reason the value of frame variable returns null if I change the width from 110 to 109 or add some extra characters in the field.

I have textfield and a custom curso movie clip on a parent movie clip. Now I need to move the cursor the characters on the textfiled ,whenever there is righ of left movement. Basically our site will have 3 columns. For example if the text only has about 300 Characters - it would start in the right column. If it had between 301 & 600 characters - it would start in the middle column and run to the right column. If it had more than 601 characters - it would start in the left column and run to the middle then right column.

The instance name for the character is char and the Var for the dynamic text is alpha. I want to be able to display the characters alpha and ALSO the characters current alpha in other levels for example.
Variable for lives in level 1:

View 1 RepliesTrough a button action I want to change the contents of a dynamic text field (i have five buttons in total). I made this textfield style bold, and added a (inner) shadow filter to it. Everytime a certain button gets clicked the content and colour of the textfield change. I want to retain the style and filter. However, while the colour change goes correct, the style and filter go back to regular..Through a coincidence i discovered that if I append the textfield in stead of replacing it entirely the transitions goes correctly.[code]In summary if i click the button with the append text action to it first, everything goes well..however when i click the buttons containing the replace text action first the style of the dynamic text field goes back to regular.

For you non Brits out there UK postcodes work on two blocks of 2-4 characters each.
L2 2HH - Liverpool central
M24 2TN - suburb of Manchester
IV56 7NQ - outter Inverness
You get the idea. So the first part of a UK postcode, wether it be 2 characters or 4 characters MUST have atleast one numeric and one non-numeric character in it. How do I detect this?
At the moment I've just got my CHECK POSTCODE button to run a few functions only if my POSTCODE (input text) field length it greater or equal to 2 characters. So how do I easily detect an input of numeric and non-numerical characters without having to resort to indexOf ...a...b...c...1...2...3...?
