I have textfield and a custom curso movie clip on a parent movie clip. Now I need to move the cursor the characters on the textfiled ,whenever there is righ of left movement. It is similar to the movement of the cursor on the webpages or the login textboxes.I'm trying to find a solution for placing the cursor movie clip on the particular character, but could not.

I am trying to get the position of the last character in the text field. The below script works fine till I change the width of the text from 110 to 109 or add some extra characters in the text field. For some reason the value of frame variable returns null if I change the width from 110 to 109 or add some extra characters in the field.

I have an input text field that is named in the properties box as 'numberOfKids'. When the program is executed, and a delete or backspace is pressed the input textfield goes blank and any calculations that use 'numberOfKids' shows NaN.I have trapped the NaN and undefined so that a numeric 0 shows up instead of a blank.
First problem: The cursor is to the left of the zero, so the first number inputted by the user is 10x larger than what they want. 0 becomes 10. How do I get the cursor to move to the right of the 0?
Second Problem: When I manually move the cursor to the right of the 0 and input a number, say 4, it shows up as 04. How do I delete the leading numeric zero in the input textfield?

I have an Input Text area that users can edit and then submit. I need to be able to show, on screen, the cursor's current position as they type. I don't need to know where the mouse is but all work-arounds I've found so far can only tell me the mouse position. The font for the text is 'courier' or 'courier new' and the Input Text area is scrollable.

Everytime a certain button gets clicked the content and colour of the textfield change. I want to retain the style and filter. However, while the colour change goes correct, the style and filter go back to regular..Through a coincidence i discovered that if I append the textfield in stead of replacing it entirely the transitions goes correctly.[code]In summary if i click the button with the append text action to it first, everything goes well..however when i click the buttons containing the replace text action first the style of the dynamic text field goes back to regular.

I just want the visitor to see the blinking cursor in the firstName_txt input box when the page appearss. Also, if the visitor tabs from one input text field to the other, the blinking cursor appears in the first three input text fields but not in the fourth. Yet, the visitor can enter text in the fourth input text field.

When previewing just the swf: * The cursor doesn't blink, but the text field is selected.* After entering text, pressing backspace doesn't work, you need to press shift+backspace to delete text.
When previewing the swf embedded in html in a browser: * The cursor doesn't select the text field automatically - I need to click on the swf then hit tab, or select the text field directly.
So really, I'm looking to get it so that when the swf is loaded in html, it pops up with a blinking cursor in that text field, and I thought the setFocus would do that, but it's not working for me.
I need the use of the chars ™ and ® but only the latter appears. I'm using a loadVars object and an external .txt file which is loading with success, but where I need the phrase "Soo Bahk Do™ Moo Duk Kwan®," I only get "Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan®" Why doesn't "™" load?
Edit: I'd like to add that I have chosen to embed all uppercase,lowercase, and punctuation marks, and I additionally added ™ and ® to ensure they'd appear, but, the trademark logo still does not appear.

View 1 RepliesI'm creating an XML-driven pie chart in AS3 with 2 text boxes in each pie slice. Both text fields are dynamic in the sense that they are populated by the XML doc and then told where to place themselves in the AS3. I've got them both using the same x and y position to place themselves at the moment (which of course puts them right one top of each other), but I'd like to make one of the fields (which acts like a label or a title to the larger number and % text field) place itself in a particular spot around the other text field. The result I'm looking for is to have the smaller "title" text field appear approximately 5 pixels above and left-justified to the larger "percentage" field.
Anyway, here are two sections of code that I've currently got. The first chunk, for the Tags portion, sets the position for the "percentage" text field using a good old x and y method. The second chunk, for Titles, is setting the position for the smaller "title" text.

I am creating a dynamic text field in the IDE and putting it on top of a simple one-color square movie clip. I've attached a listener to the movie clip in AS 3, to make it act like a big button. However, since the text field is on top, it blocks the button from reading the cursor, within the text field. I set "selectable" to false in the IDE, on the text field, but that didn't seem to work. Any ideas? Do I have to add a listener to the text field, also?
View 2 RepliesWhen I Selection.setFocus(someTextField); the cursor doesn't start blinking in the text field. I've tried it in the flash IDE as well as in a HTML page, I can't seem to get the cursor to start blinking automatically in an input TextField.
I even did an onEnterFrame script to make sure the TextField was loaded and ready before I did the selection. I've also used Selection.setSelection(0,0) , etc. It just never shows up.
If I click the input TextField the cursor shows up as normal though. I just want it to automatically appear as this is a form and I want it to be clear to the user which textfield is currently selected when I change focus.
This is for a touchscreen project with an on-screen keyboard so the user has no mouse.
Even if the user types some letters and sees them appear in the input box properly the cursor STILL doesn't appear. Only when I click the input does the cursor appear.

I've had a Flash website up and running for about a year which includes an external text file linked to a dynamic text field.
Everything worked well until I recently added content to the external text file.
Suddenly, the file won't load in flash.
If I play around and cut a line here or there, it sometimes loads. Sometimes not. Sometimes it looks like there might be a character limit. Sometimes it looks like flash might be having a problem with certain characters.
So my questions are:
1.) Does Flash have a limit on the amount of characters that can be displayed in a dynamic field.
2.) If so, can this be changed with as3?

i have a dynamic text field that loads a variable into it (just a simple text file). this text file will be updated on occasion. i also have a movie clip to be positioned below the text field, however i want the movie clip to change position depending on how much text is in the text field so there isnt a large gap and so they dont overlap. is this possible? i tried the following actionscript to adjust the size of the text field depending on the amount of text. textField2.autosize = "center"; however i have no idea how to get the y position of the movie clip to adjust accordingly.

I have some problem with textField with embedded fonts.I'm using font symbols created in library and they work very well with dynamic textfields.If I make an input textfield with these embedded fonts the following problem occurs:if i set the textfield's initial value (.text) to anything not equal to "" everything works fine. I can change the text in it.but if I set the input textfield's .text initially to an empty string, I can't get the cursor in the textfield, as it can't receive the focus.If I turn the texfield's embeddedfonts to false, everything works fine, but this way I can't use custom fonts and fields are looking awful. I would like to use my custom fonts in the input textfields too...
View 3 RepliesI'm in and out of AS2 and it's been awhile.if this is possible to reliably create this state for an Input text field.Ideally the text area has some text in it as a prompt tot he user, and the cursor is blinking at the end of the prompt text. When the user clicks on the box, it resets to empty content and the user can type their question.I have the text area set up with prompt text, instance name. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. I use Flash CS4 with AS 2.0.

Steps to reproduce:
1)Click on a HTML Text Field which is inside a Iframe
2)Click on a Flex Field.
3)Begin to type some text.
Expected Result is the entered text should go in the Flex TextInput field but the actual Result is it goes into HTML text field.
This is the bug which was filed but closed without any resolution. The workaround suggested there doesnt work. ( bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-12377 )
