Get Coordinates Of Text Field Cursor?
Feb 21, 2010I need to be able to get the coordinates of the cursor when a user is typing in a text field. For example, something like cursor_x = 200; cursor_y = 100; Is this possible?

Dec 28, 2010I would like the cursor to appear and blink in the first text field in a movie clip that gathers information to be sent to a php. The following does not work. stage.focus = textField; textField.setSelection(textField.text.length,textF ield.text.length); And the only other things I find are for custom cursors. I just want the visitor to see the blinking cursor in the firstName_txt input box when the page appearss. Also, if the visitor tabs from one input text field to the other, the blinking cursor appears in the first three input text fields but not in the fourth. Yet, the visitor can enter text in the fourth input text field.

The problems:
When previewing just the swf: * The cursor doesn't blink, but the text field is selected.* After entering text, pressing backspace doesn't work, you need to press shift+backspace to delete text.
When previewing the swf embedded in html in a browser: * The cursor doesn't select the text field automatically - I need to click on the swf then hit tab, or select the text field directly.
So really, I'm looking to get it so that when the swf is loaded in html, it pops up with a blinking cursor in that text field, and I thought the setFocus would do that, but it's not working for me.

Oct 7, 2008I am creating a dynamic text field in the IDE and putting it on top of a simple one-color square movie clip. I've attached a listener to the movie clip in AS 3, to make it act like a big button. However, since the text field is on top, it blocks the button from reading the cursor, within the text field. I set "selectable" to false in the IDE, on the text field, but that didn't seem to work. Any ideas? Do I have to add a listener to the text field, also?

Jun 8, 2011When I Selection.setFocus(someTextField); the cursor doesn't start blinking in the text field. I've tried it in the flash IDE as well as in a HTML page, I can't seem to get the cursor to start blinking automatically in an input TextField.
I even did an onEnterFrame script to make sure the TextField was loaded and ready before I did the selection. I've also used Selection.setSelection(0,0) , etc. It just never shows up.
If I click the input TextField the cursor shows up as normal though. I just want it to automatically appear as this is a form and I want it to be clear to the user which textfield is currently selected when I change focus.
This is for a touchscreen project with an on-screen keyboard so the user has no mouse.
Even if the user types some letters and sees them appear in the input box properly the cursor STILL doesn't appear. Only when I click the input does the cursor appear.

I can change the text in it.but if I set the input textfield's .text initially to an empty string, I can't get the cursor in the textfield, as it can't receive the focus.If I turn the texfield's embeddedfonts to false, everything works fine, but this way I can't use custom fonts and fields are looking awful. I would like to use my custom fonts in the input textfields too...

Jun 16, 2011I'm in and out of AS2 and it's been awhile.if this is possible to reliably create this state for an Input text field.Ideally the text area has some text in it as a prompt tot he user, and the cursor is blinking at the end of the prompt text. When the user clicks on the box, it resets to empty content and the user can type their question.I have the text area set up with prompt text, instance name. Tried this code and it does not work:[code]Right now when i click on it, the text prompt text remains and the cursor shows one line below the prompt text.

When I try this it merely focuses on my text field and no caret comes up! mytxtfield is the instance name of my input type textfield.

Sep 10, 2010I have a web page which has a SWF file embeded. I have an issue with the focus.
Steps to reproduce:
1)Click on a HTML Text Field which is inside a Iframe
2)Click on a Flex Field.
3)Begin to type some text.
Expected Result is the entered text should go in the Flex TextInput field but the actual Result is it goes into HTML text field.
This is the bug which was filed but closed without any resolution. The workaround suggested there doesnt work. ( bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-12377 )
This is happening only in IE 6.0 and IE 7.0. Below is the live example. [URL]

Sep 2, 2011I have an input text field that is named in the properties box as 'numberOfKids'. When the program is executed, and a delete or backspace is pressed the input textfield goes blank and any calculations that use 'numberOfKids' shows NaN.I have trapped the NaN and undefined so that a numeric 0 shows up instead of a blank.
First problem: The cursor is to the left of the zero, so the first number inputted by the user is 10x larger than what they want. 0 becomes 10. How do I get the cursor to move to the right of the 0?
Second Problem: When I manually move the cursor to the right of the 0 and input a number, say 4, it shows up as 04. How do I delete the leading numeric zero in the input textfield?

Changing The Cursor With Coordinates?
Nov 4, 2009I am trying to change the cursor with coordinates.
I have attached the cursor to the mouse, which is a Red Circle
what I want to happen is when it gets beyond the half way point on the screen for it to turn blue.
I can do it as a rollover but I need to make it to it with if statements and coordinates.

I need to display a custom tooltip for each rectange when the mouse cursor is hovering over it.
How can I do this? I'm using the MouseMove event to track when the cursor moves over these coordinates (that part is working), but when I change the tooltip text it's not refreshing

EDIT: The problem seems to be with the following line:
ToolTipManager.destroyToolTip(_myToolTip);
If I comment out the preceding line, it will display the new tooltip, but it will keep creating new ones and the old ones never get removed. But if I add that line, it doesn't add any tooltips! Is the code not being executed sequentially, i.e., is the code to remove the tooltip somehow getting executed after the code to add the tooltip?

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

But having the user input a number, store it as a variable, store which function the user wants to perform and clear the text field then store the new input in the same text field as a different variable and multiply or add or divide or subtract the 2 numbers and getting the equals sign to display the answer when clicked is harder than I thought it would be.

Nov 15, 2004I am working on a file that has a rotating dial, and I'd like the dial to reveal contents of a text field (a link) as the dial points in the direction of the text field. I have 4 text fields located at 90, 180, 270 and 360 degrees (top, bottom, left and right). I have it controlled via AS, so I've got all the Math but I was hoping someone might know how to reveal the links when the arrow (in the dial) is pointing in these directions.I set up a text field for testing, which shows the degrees, but I'm getting 'NaN' in the field (problems with Theta and converting degrees to Radians, I think). I thought this might help me figure out how to reveal those links, if I can get the NaN to work.Currently, the file is rotating with an onPress, but I'm going to convert it to a mouse follow, instead, so the user only has to float around to see the links.
