ActionScript 3.0 :: Making A Text Field Ignore The Cursor?

I am creating a dynamic text field in the IDE and putting it on top of a simple one-color square movie clip. I've attached a listener to the movie clip in AS 3, to make it act like a big button. However, since the text field is on top, it blocks the button from reading the cursor, within the text field. I set "selectable" to false in the IDE, on the text field, but that didn't seem to work. Any ideas? Do I have to add a listener to the text field, also?

When I Selection.setFocus(someTextField); the cursor doesn't start blinking in the text field. I've tried it in the flash IDE as well as in a HTML page, I can't seem to get the cursor to start blinking automatically in an input TextField.
I even did an onEnterFrame script to make sure the TextField was loaded and ready before I did the selection. I've also used Selection.setSelection(0,0) , etc. It just never shows up.
If I click the input TextField the cursor shows up as normal though. I just want it to automatically appear as this is a form and I want it to be clear to the user which textfield is currently selected when I change focus.
This is for a touchscreen project with an on-screen keyboard so the user has no mouse.
Even if the user types some letters and sees them appear in the input box properly the cursor STILL doesn't appear. Only when I click the input does the cursor appear.

I've been trying for literally three days now to make a hand cursor appear over a dynamic text box -- which pulls text from an XML doc. The link works fine just no hand cursor.

I need to be able to get the coordinates of the cursor when a user is typing in a text field. For example, something like cursor_x = 200; cursor_y = 100; Is this possible?

I would like the cursor to appear and blink in the first text field in a movie clip that gathers information to be sent to a php. The following does not work. stage.focus = textField; textField.setSelection(textField.text.length,textF ield.text.length); And the only other things I find are for custom cursors. I just want the visitor to see the blinking cursor in the firstName_txt input box when the page appearss. Also, if the visitor tabs from one input text field to the other, the blinking cursor appears in the first three input text fields but not in the fourth. Yet, the visitor can enter text in the fourth input text field.

I have textfield and a custom curso movie clip on a parent movie clip. Now I need to move the cursor the characters on the textfiled ,whenever there is righ of left movement. It is similar to the movement of the cursor on the webpages or the login textboxes.I'm trying to find a solution for placing the cursor movie clip on the particular character, but could not.

I'm trying to get the cursor to start in a specific text field a la:

Selection.setFocus("inputTextInstance");
The problems:
When previewing just the swf: * The cursor doesn't blink, but the text field is selected.* After entering text, pressing backspace doesn't work, you need to press shift+backspace to delete text.
When previewing the swf embedded in html in a browser: * The cursor doesn't select the text field automatically - I need to click on the swf then hit tab, or select the text field directly.
So really, I'm looking to get it so that when the swf is loaded in html, it pops up with a blinking cursor in that text field, and I thought the setFocus would do that, but it's not working for me.

obj1 is on top of obj2, covering it. obj2 has buttonMode set to true (so that it gives the mouse a hand cursor on mouseover). And obj2 has MouseEvent listeners, etc. But since obj1 is covering obj2, you can't actually click/mouseover obj2. How do I make it so that the mouse ignores obj1 and is able to interact with obj2 even though it is being covered?

I have a multiline input text box which a user can type stuff into, then click a button which will save what they typed and load another lot of text (all using XML). What I would like is to set the flashing cursor to the end of this box when it is updated. I've tried a few things:

I have a button_mc and within this button is another MC with a masked graphic to create a shine effect. My problem is that when this shine effect passes over the button and hits the mouse cursor it causes the button to deactivate. Is there a way for me to have the shine_mc within the button_mc be ignored by the mouse completely?

I'm in and out of AS2 and it's been awhile.if this is possible to reliably create this state for an Input text field.Ideally the text area has some text in it as a prompt tot he user, and the cursor is blinking at the end of the prompt text. When the user clicks on the box, it resets to empty content and the user can type their question.I have the text area set up with prompt text, instance name. Tried this code and it does not work:[code]Right now when i click on it, the text prompt text remains and the cursor shows one line below the prompt text.

I want to have the caret (flashing cursor) to appear when I set the focus to a text field. It works fine when the user clicks on the text field.
the following does not seem to work for me:

When I try this it merely focuses on my text field and no caret comes up! mytxtfield is the instance name of my input type textfield.

I would like to make a dynamic text field wich write the instance name of the symbol when the cursor is over one. I have more than 1300 symbols so it would be a really big help if I wouldn't have to write thousands of lines.

I have a web page which has a SWF file embeded. I have an issue with the focus.
Steps to reproduce:
1)Click on a HTML Text Field which is inside a Iframe
2)Click on a Flex Field.
3)Begin to type some text.
Expected Result is the entered text should go in the Flex TextInput field but the actual Result is it goes into HTML text field.
This is the bug which was filed but closed without any resolution. The workaround suggested there doesnt work. ( bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/SDK-12377 )
This is happening only in IE 6.0 and IE 7.0. Below is the live example. [URL]

How can I make a mouse event ignore, or skip over another object? Say I have a small Sprite on a Large sprite, I want it to act as if the small sprite isn't there, and pass the mouse events directly through to the larger sprite behind it. I've been searching for this for a while and have tried various things but no avail.

I am making a text field that must change every time a user clicks the next button. I know how to change the text of a AS created text field and change it once more with but I need to change it about 50 times +.
How would I do that without making 50 frames?

I have an input text field that is named in the properties box as 'numberOfKids'. When the program is executed, and a delete or backspace is pressed the input textfield goes blank and any calculations that use 'numberOfKids' shows NaN.I have trapped the NaN and undefined so that a numeric 0 shows up instead of a blank.
First problem: The cursor is to the left of the zero, so the first number inputted by the user is 10x larger than what they want. 0 becomes 10. How do I get the cursor to move to the right of the 0?
Second Problem: When I manually move the cursor to the right of the 0 and input a number, say 4, it shows up as 04. How do I delete the leading numeric zero in the input textfield?

does anyone know how to make the initial text in an input text box disappear once your cursor changes from the arrow to the type cursor? Currently I'm using javascript which works fine to pass text from textfield A to textfield B:

Is there a way to pass the textfield A text to a dynamic text input (flash) as I'd like to use the font embedding flash offers. I can make it work when loading a value from a txt file but I'm not sure how to access the value identified above as KitGroupID_16_TextOption_38 and make it appear in a dynamic input box. Eventually I might want to have 3 font choices for the user but I'd like to just see if I can get this working properly first.

I am making use of a custom cursor on itemRenderers in a List component. The custom cursor works just fine except when I mouse over the Text component which is a child of the itemRenderer at which point I get two cursors, the custom and an iBar one on top of the other.Here's the code:

Is it possible to login through flash using one Dynamic Text Field and one Input Text Field and no buttons? If so how? I have seen many tutorials dealing with logging in to PHP using flash but it requires you to make your own php scripts which i am not familiar with. Can some one tell me how to do this with PHPBBs existing php scripts... I want to be able to login thorugh a Input Text Field box and have it verify it in PHP and also be able to register and view other PHP info such as users online and FAQ..
