I've got a few questions for the technical side of a project we're working on and I'd really just like to know if it would be possible before I present it to the rest of my group. The idea is to create a wall on which the user can write down several words on their chosen locations (like a brainstorm), then click one of them to continue with it..
Is it possible to create an editable textfield at the cursor's position on a mouseclick and (if even needed) make it active so the user doesn't have to click twice? And then repeatable on multiple locations on the workarea..
I'm assuming the text autoresize function would still work and that I could add a random small rotation to it (It has to look like you're writing on a wall).
Then, on the next step, I'd like the user to be able to pick one and click on that to continue.
I'm guessing it involves creating a movieclip with a textfield in it and then load that from the library on the canvas on mouseclick.. What I'm most worried about is the user having to click twice to actually start typing..
I need to put together an editable text area that has a custom caret (cursor) which is different from the default blinking vertical line. Is the caret a "skinnable" property of text input? note that I am not asking about the mouse pointer cursor which can be set using the CursorManager.
View 1 RepliesI have a combobox implementation as follows - Based on user input (min 2 chars) in the editable combobox, the data provider is refreshed and drop-down opened, showing different data sets as user input varies.Problem is that after drop-down opens, the cursor moves back to the beginning. So for instance, the user types in "ab", and wants to type in "c" to form the search string "abc". Due to the cursor re-setting its position to 0, the search string instead ends up as "cab".Here's what I tried already (doesn't work) : textInput.mx_internal::getTextField().setSelection(index, index);
where index = length of user input. This selects text from index to index (which effectively un-selects text) and is supposed to place the cursor at the end.
I would like to know how to have the cursor visible in non editable Text Area.
View 7 RepliesBasically I want an MC to appear or disappear depending on the mouse proximity to it. Say for example I have a nav which only becomes visible as the mouse moves to the right hand side and then disappears as it moves away.
Previously I have used the old invisible button trick that triggers the MC as the mouse moves over it. Yes im well aware that is frowned upon and is not 100% effective but as of yet thats the only method I know.
Is there a method to set the caret position within a RichEditableText control? The control's contents can contain errors that the user must fix which are navigated though via Next/Previous buttons, and during the navigation I would like to set the caret cursor to the end of each error within the text.

The issue though is that once I've done the replacement, the cursor goes to the beginning of the textbox rather than the end.As I'm trying to update the user's text on the fly, this obvious doesn't work.

I don't need to know where the mouse is but all work-arounds I've found so far can only tell me the mouse position. When the program is executed, and a delete or backspace is pressed the input textfield goes blank and any calculations that use 'numberOfKids' shows NaN.I have trapped the NaN and undefined so that a numeric 0 shows up instead of a blank.
First problem: The cursor is to the left of the zero, so the first number inputted by the user is 10x larger than what they want. 0 becomes 10. How do I get the cursor to move to the right of the 0?
Second Problem: When I manually move the cursor to the right of the 0 and input a number, say 4, it shows up as 04. How do I delete the leading numeric zero in the input textfield?

If my ComboBox is editable how can I tell if a change event comes from a change to the TextInput or a change in the selectedIndex of the drop down?
Is there a way to check for this in the event object?
does anyone know how to make the initial text in an input text box disappear once your cursor changes from the arrow to the type cursor? For example, I have an input text box which has the text visible saying "enter your email address here" I want this text to disappear automatically when the user goes to type something there...

View 3 RepliesI'm having issues with the property "editable" of textArea control. I have a component: OrderView.mxml and it's associated data class OrderViewData.as. Orderview.mxml is inside a viewStack to enable navigation from a component to another. In this particular case, OrderView.mxml is called by another component: SearchResult.mxml. I can thus navigate from SearchResult.mxml to OrderView.mxml, and back to SearchResult.mxml... OrderView.mxml has textArea and textInput control, that have to be editable or nonEditable depending on the property var isEditable:Boolean from OrderViewData.as.
When the application is launched, isEditable = true. So, all textInput and textArea controls are editable the first time the user gets to OrderView.mxml. When the user clicks on the button order from OrderView.mxml, isEditable = false. When the user goes back to SearchResult.mxml, isEditable = true (again) --> Until here, everything works fine. The thing is: when the user goes back to OrderView.mxml for the second time (and beyond), even if the property isEditable = true, textArea controls are still non editable... But the textInput controls are editable!

I am making use of a custom cursor on itemRenderers in a List component. The custom cursor works just fine except when I mouse over the Text component which is a child of the itemRenderer at which point I get two cursors, the custom and an iBar one on top of the other.Here's the code:

People have asked how to make a text editor with css formatting before and the answer has always been with reference to the manual - "it can't be done".But what if you didn't accept that something can't be done?I'm thinking some sort of translation class to convert between textformat and css.Or bin the css for the moment of editing and then reapply when the user has finished.

I have implemented this using a TextArea with a change event handler that parses the text the the user pastes - splitting it up by newlines and tabs - and adding it to the ArrayCollection that is bound to the grid. Whenever I try to copy and paste as is it shows up but its in a different text style, and its hidden. (That may just be because my text box is black as well.) but i'd still like it to have the same text style when you do paste.)
i'm gonna make a flash banner in cs4 to be placed on the webpage of a friend. the flash header is going to contain 6 images and some text, all this is easy to do in flash.but i'm wondering about how to publish it to the web, is a swf file and the html file enough? i want to create a text document where my friend later can exchange the images and the texts for his webpage, without him having to do this in the flash programme itself. is this possible?
