View 1 RepliesHow would you go about using a function to do a continous action? I tried it myself but couldn't get it working. For example, if something==true; then it will continously do prevFrame(); action, or anything like this. I tried a if statement, and used a function command, but no success so far. Still trying, or will still be trying after my next class.

That's what I want to do, but I don't know how to. The other thing is that when I use if , else if, with a text input as a parameter, I can't view the action of the if statement in a dynamic text field, even though I did write m.text=b, where b=a.suma.

I have template that i try to edit when you click image thumbnail it opens window with larger version, on thumb script look likeon(release){ _root.page = 0;_root.play();}I trying to find that window that opens up because i need it resized, if i resize images nothing happens that frame that pops up when you click thumbnail is still same size. So i want to trace what happens when it executes _root.picn variable, maybe somewhere in code it will tell me what layer on time it refers to so i could edit

I have three mouse events:
a ROLL_OVER
a ROLL_OUT
a CLICK
Once the CLICK has taken place I want the movie clip to stop on the last frame. But because I have a ROLL_OUT Event it wants to continue to go back to that event when I roll out of the movie clip.
do I need an "if" statement here to override the rollOut function when I click?
Is there a way to add an EventListener to a button and make it execute some action when it is clicked without calling a function?
In other words if I have three different buttons and I want to make an action depending on what button was clicked, something like.
If button 1 is clicked do this, if button 2 is clicked do this, if button 3 do this.
I know a different action can be taken using an eventListener and a function assigned to each button but I'm trying to understand more about AS3.

Simply enough, I am using the UILoader with AS3 to load a .swf file into the main timeline with // loadWindow.source = "projects.swf"; // I get the 1009 Error. When I remove any action script (just a // stop(); // ) function from the .swf file I am trying to load, I do not get the error message.

I have a slideshow that is looped ... it contains 5 slides.I am using a gotoandPlay action to control the slide show.

There is a fade transition between slides.When a button is released ... I want to gotoandPlay (frame 98) ... and then have it stop 10 frames later on (frame 108). Frame 98 includes the transition ... if I just gotoandStop on frame 108 ... I loose the transition.Is there any way to incorporate a stop action, after a gotoandPlay action on my button ... without naming instances etc.I.E.

I just want to make a simple button action using actionscript 2 but I can't get it to work! I'm sorry for even asking but I've been at this for too long now for it to not work I'm using Adobe Flash CS4 and I do the following --
File -> New Flash File (ActionScript 2.0)
Insert -> New Symbol
Name - test
Type - button
Export for ActionScript
Identifier - test
And then draw it in using the keyframes and add the code to 'Actions - Button' for my button

How can I get an action to follow another action when a button is clicked? When a button is clicked, I want the timeline to go to a certain frame and play and when it's done playing, to go to another frame and play. I basically want two actions in one function.

I am using code from a tutorial that I downloaded to get an Home.swf to preload in my "index" page.the problem is that a part of the code reads

which means that I have to create a button to get the .swf file to load, how do I edit this code so that the action begins on it's own at that frame?
I am a beginner when it comes to ActionScript. I am currently working on a Slide Show Pro project. Specifically SSP for Flash (AS3) and Director. I have 4 custom buttons at the bottom of the slide show. When I try to place ActionScript on my Action layer for let's say two of the buttons I get an error that says "Duplicate Function Definition." I've been playing with prototype a bit and I've noticed that either it isn't as static as it should be or that some functions are protected from altering, or that in some cases the prototype actually extends a function. For example, I was trying to modifiy the global trace function to output the current time of a trace action, something like this :

I couldn't come up with a good title for this question but basically the problem is this - I've got a series of thumbnails and clicking on a thumbnail loads a larger picture into a holder movieclip on the main stage. However, if you click another thumbnail while the first picture is still loading, then both pictures load and it goes on from there. How can I make my code so that clicking a new thumbnail cancels any actions from previous clicks?

I am new to Flash and I can find out how to make something happen when a selection is made in a combo box. All I want to do is go to the next frame when a selection is made, but I can't use on(release), because I keep getting "this is not a button" errors.
