when you hover over some of the dots, their caption "balloons" appear under some of the other dots. I would like for the caption "balloons" to appear above all dots. Were this HTML I would just use CSS to adjust the Z-index. But this doesn't seem as simple. Attached is a copy of my program and a screenshot so you can see what I have so far.
View 3 RepliesI've completed the Hover Caption tutorial at [URL] successfully. What I'd like to do in addition, is to resize the caption box to match the caption text's length.
I've tried giving the background box a name (box) and turning it into a button and then doing:
_root.caption.box._width = _root.caption.help.length * 8;
But the box never aligns with the text properly after that. don't know what methods to call in order to get the bottom corner of the text and bottom corner of the box and align them properly.
I have an audio slide show and I need to add caption and on off button to show and hide the caption. how can I make on and off button to show the caption?and is it possible to add caption on my audio (not video) using actionscript 3.0?
View 1 RepliesMost of the threads about loading xml data into Flash text boxes and MCs involve menus or photo galleries. I'm trying to do something simpler (well, it's kinda gallery-like I guess). I have a column of 10 buttons (not dynamically generated).
Clicking on button number ones should:
a) load a jpg into an empty MC (done).
b) load a text caption into an empty text box -- no thumbnails here. All the samples I've browsed have the text loading tied into figuring out which dynamically generated thumbnail is being clicked (the old i++). I just want one at a time:

I am trying to learn Flash and as soon as I think I am in good shape, comes along this "curve ball". Take a look at the .FLA from this site ([URL]) How in the world do the alpha buttons get their captions? I understand the numeric ones, but alphas completely baffle me as there is no code (that I can find) that sets them. I have deleted all of the Actions, I have deleted virtually everything there is, and I still can't figure out how does the button instance appear as the caption in the text box.

I have a dynamic text field that is displaying captions relating to what is happening in the loaded swf. The captions are relatively short and I am wondering what the best way to display them would be? Right now I am loading from a text file and can dynamically load the next file using this:

I cant see why the first caption of a dynamic text box want load. Its the caption from a xml gallery Once I go to the second pic it starts loading and if I go back to the first pic it loads.

View 2 RepliesI have a very general requirement that seemed very simple: Step 1: Load a new external JPEG image into a MC with a string var encoding a string caption in the URL link (VALUE="../fadeTest.swf?someTextVar=TestCaption") within the EMBED / OBJECT sections. I know how to do this and it semed to work fine. STEP2: When the JPEG is loaded I would like the substituted Text to Fade In over the JPEG. The JPEG should also fade in before the Text. The fade rate should be programmable.

Having a problem with a little animation involving balloons floating in and then floating out again when a condition is met. There are two ways they can float in or out: from left to right, or completely randomly. I actually like it as coming in (left to right) and going out (random) but it's essentially up to the user.
Since I moved my Array sort code into the function that basically deals with telling the balloons to float off though, I've been having problems. Sometimes one or a couple of the balloons will not float off and I'm kind of boggled as to why. Because it works fine IF the Array sort part is outside this function, I'm wondering whether, when the for loop at the bottom starts running, the Array is still being sorted and that's why some balloons get left behind.

How do I add a title/label name to a key frames on a layer? After I create a key frame, I should be able to add a name to that frame. I am creating several stops along the timeline and want to name each one to make it easier to follow.

I bought a web template and have been working my way through the included FLA file (using adobe flash professional css). I have figured out how to do most things but am stumped with one of the movies clips. If you go to the site you will see the image slideshow. The text I am trying to modify is the bottom right box. I was able to change the first round of text which I found in a movie clip called obj 12. The problem is the I cannot find the text after that "Perfect solutions for every space" and so on. I have all the layers visable for obj 12 (everything under the eye is unchecked) and everything under the lock is unchecked. I see layer for the two lines of images which I was able to change but then there are no other layers for the other text. I went through every image/clip in the library

That has been fine, but now I want to loop it and I usually put my actions in the top layer. Will this cause a problem? Am I better off just putting my loop action on the last key frame of the clcikTag layer?
View 3 RepliesIm creating a program that is designed to allow the used to select 3 pictures (movie clips) and print them off on a single peace of paper.
The program works by allowing the user to select 3 graphics (the graphics are actually instructions for various exercises) and then moving the desired movieclips onto the stage. This all happens on a layer named "Content"
So far the program will allow the user to select the movieclips and will move them into place on the Content layer as well as move smaller versions of the pictures into a preview box the only thing it does not do is print. (the most important bit)

View 1 RepliesI want to create a simple mask. A white oval on a second layer on top of a bottom layer that just has a word of type. I want the oval to travel from the upper left down to cover up the type. When I create the second layer, create the oval, and choose a distant frame for the "end" of the oval's positioning, my type in the first layer disappears as soon as I press F6 on that second layer. Why? Why is it nuking my first layer?
View 3 RepliesI have a container MovieClip called Drags where I can drag stamps (other MovieClips)--they are added to the Drags container via addChild. I have a second container MovieClip above that one (display order-wise) call Paint that contains a bmp, and some sprites used for adding a layer of paint.
My question is this: I need to be able to click on the Paint layer when I am above a draggable MovieClip and trigger the MouseEvent for the correct object to drag it around, but the item must always remain below the Paint layer.
I've got a small table populated with information from a database that I'm trying to deploy as a table above a flash movie.

However, no matter what I do the table keeps displaying BEHIND the flash images. The table is in a layer set an visability at 1 while the flash is set at 0.
And if you information for both mac and pc platforms even better.
This is something I tried to do once long ago with Flash MX, and it did not work for me, and now with CS3, I find that the same concept is not working. What I am trying to do is make an animation where the text appears via a masked layer, but I would like the mask's gradient to be revealed in the animation. View 8 RepliesI know it is very easy. Right click> create motion tween> drag to where I would like the text/object to move. But, Sometimes it doesn't seem to work when I drag the text. It will work the first time and for the second text on the frame it won't work. What are the requirements of a motion tween when it comes to text on a single layer in the same frame.
View 2 RepliesI'd like to play load/play one movie and show text at a specific times. In the Movie there is a scene where a board is shown. I'd like to show some text on the board when it appears. That's why I'd like to how to know when you reached a certain point.
Also about loading the video. I read there a several ways of loading a movie. What would be the best way in your opinion to load it in this situation.
1)Can this be done with the FLVPlayer component or through another way?
2) How to show a text at a specific time. Is there a function that I can use.
I'm trying to do a little comic comedy type video in Flash. I've done an outline sketch with the pen tool of my first character, now I want to color it BUT I want to keep the colors and the outline sketch separated on two different layers. Is there a way I can select the path (outline) on layer A and then colorize it with the bucket tool on layer B? The problem I'm having is that every object I select it automatically jumps to that corresponding layer.
One reason why I want to do it this way is I still want to continue working freely on the outline sketch since it's not fully finished, so that I just can blend the colors out and keep working on the outline, at the same time I want to color it while I go just to see where it's going and to make sure that I'm not wasting my time unnecessarily with trying to do a outline just to find out that it won't work out at the end.
how to do a comic type animation, how to create the characters, how to make them move and talk? It can be a free or paid resource.
I download "scrollbar_vfinal_2004 from this site and use it my own movie but when I test the movie, the text is not showing. Without text lay mask, the scrollbar works.
