I have a dynamic text on my scene. this text is inside a MC. inside my text MC i have add an action script layer with this code.

but, it doesnt work of course i would like when i launch my project, on enterframe, the caption of my text = +1. i am really lost !!
I've completed the Hover Caption tutorial at [URL] successfully. What I'd like to do in addition, is to resize the caption box to match the caption text's length.
I've tried giving the background box a name (box) and turning it into a button and then doing:
_root.caption.box._width = _root.caption.help.length * 8;
But the box never aligns with the text properly after that. don't know what methods to call in order to get the bottom corner of the text and bottom corner of the box and align them properly.
I've seen similar threads but couldn't find one with the exact same issue. I've a PDF / Word document with arabic copy when I try pasting that text in flash all the joined letters start appearing as individual letters.I've tried the dynamic text box solution in which you create a dynamic text box and assign the text to its variable that doesn't work. But strangely when you write arabic in dynamic text box (with out assigning the text to the variable) and double click to select the text box and its content the text starts appearing fine .. but when published its again all individual letter.

I have a flash file that reads and XML file, it creates an empty movie clip in a placeholder (mc_image_holder) for each entry in the file, so 4 entries in the XML file = 4 movie clips inside the placeholder. it does this like so:

however, for some reason, the last created movie clip in the place holder never fires the onEnterFrame event more than once, so, If I were to trace the word "hi" I would only get it once, where as if I apply that to each of the other three that are created, it would put it many times, as it should.
I have an audio slide show and I need to add caption and on off button to show and hide the caption. how can I make on and off button to show the caption?and is it possible to add caption on my audio (not video) using actionscript 3.0?

View 21 RepliesI made a contact form in my flash website, but for some reason, you can't type in the input text boxes I made. I already have embedded the text, so that isn't the problem. I think maybe it's related to the code I have, or maybe I need a code to target the text box. One more key detail: The text box is within a movieclip. If I don't put it in the movieclip, it works fine, but I need it inside of the movieclip.

just downloaded the flash cs4 trail, very nice some of the irritating IDE bugs are gone that i had on my mac, and didn't had on windows. but enough of that
The first project i checked out, a bug jumps up.when you create a texfield on stage, make it html text. set it to verdana or arial regular, emded the basic symbols.give the textfield a name and try to make some bold text using actionscript.

preview it and every thing stays regular.the only way to get right is to embed the font styles in your library. but for some of the more special symbols, that's not good enough.that's the only reason i re-installed flash cs3, after thinking maybe that was the problem.
what i need to do is create an instance of an input text box when a button or key is pressed. However as of yet i've been unable to no matter what i try, for some reasons i guess it's properties don't carry over the same way a static object does.

It still scroll's but nothing shows inside the input boxes when I type on it. Is this "normal" procedure for flash or It's a bug of some kind?

View 5 Replies- I put 3 dynamic text field to stage. I selected Verdana both of them and select bold and italic for other 2 field. after that I created a textfield.

assigned "Verdana" font as TextFormat.
and when I assigned a htmlText to my field like that :"<b>this is bold</b> this is normal". I use Flash CS4, AS3

I have this to get the date, day, month, year...you know the drill, but i can only get the complete date to display if I use onClipEvent(load). (enterFrame) won't work, and i just wanted to make sure there was a reason behind it. Is it because I'm using arrays? check out the code. I do not want to majorly change the code if it can be avoided...

i've a problem with a 3D animation of a dynamic textF (a textfiled nested in a MC). Everything goes fine, but the quality of the text, at the end of the animation, slow really down. It's like the AAliasing doesn't work fine (it's setted on "Antialising for animation", but if i use anyone else, the result doesn't change).
View 1 RepliesMost of the threads about loading xml data into Flash text boxes and MCs involve menus or photo galleries. I'm trying to do something simpler (well, it's kinda gallery-like I guess). I have a column of 10 buttons (not dynamically generated).
Clicking on button number ones should:
a) load a jpg into an empty MC (done).
b) load a text caption into an empty text box -- no thumbnails here. All the samples I've browsed have the text loading tied into figuring out which dynamically generated thumbnail is being clicked (the old i++). I just want one at a time:

I created an full flash template website loading external swf.Lately, I managed to add a fake3D rotation with AS3 and CS4 to this global template with an enterFrame.some of my external swf use a vertical scroller also using an enterframe function base on the x / y position of the mouse, the scroller dont work anymore.Can't an enterframe swf loads another swf with enterframe function?
View 4 RepliesI am trying to learn Flash and as soon as I think I am in good shape, comes along this "curve ball". Take a look at the .FLA from this site ([URL]) How in the world do the alpha buttons get their captions? I understand the numeric ones, but alphas completely baffle me as there is no code (that I can find) that sets them. I have deleted all of the Actions, I have deleted virtually everything there is, and I still can't figure out how does the button instance appear as the caption in the text box.

I have a dynamic text field that is displaying captions relating to what is happening in the loaded swf. The captions are relatively short and I am wondering what the best way to display them would be? Right now I am loading from a text file and can dynamically load the next file using this:

I cant see why the first caption of a dynamic text box want load. Its the caption from a xml gallery Once I go to the second pic it starts loading and if I go back to the first pic it loads.
View 3 RepliesI decided to try to use setInterval for myanimation, which is just a mouse trail.However, I'm trying to get teh mouse trail to be a dynamic mask.In my previous swf this was achieved by using a holder mc with the animation inside and then using this as the mask. But this time I just canpt seem to hit on the right way to get it to work. The code I am using for the mouse trail is:

How to import sound with AS? Cuz i have tried it and my sound just wount play. Can you explain me where my sound should be and what is the as code for importing cuz i use

and this SoundON from where i get it, i try to add linkage to the sound file but in CS4 i cant find the option;. I do it from the library, adding text into the linkage field but still my sound doesn't want to play?
I have a button object that I need to scale to align with the variable width of an array of images.However, when I set the width in code, the button does not actually become that width. Tracing out the width gives me the correct value, but on screen.. it's off.
I've proved it to myself by scaling the same button object manually in the properties pane and visually comparing. Both of the buttons below have a width of 410.
