I am using to blur an image using BitmapData. The function is called on a Slider_changeHandler(event:Event):voidevent and the value of the slider is passed to the function as blurvalue.The problem is the function works but seems to be cummalative (if that's the correct word!), that is, suppose I slide it to the maximum and after that try to reduce the blur by sliding it back towards the front the blur still keeps increasing. How do I make it to work so when I will slide it up blur increases and when I slide it back blur decreases and when slider is at 0, no blur is applied.[code]
Is it possible in as3 to code a jpeg/psd to ease into being blurred, and then ease back out. With just an un-blurred picture? With a blurred and unblurred picture? Shape tween takes too much processing power to transistion good.
Problem 1: Flash crashes when a Blur filter is applied to a TextLine object. Correction: It was not the Blur filter but this line, which caused a crash: trace(tb.findNextWordBoundary(5)); whereby tb is a TextBlock element.
I have the following code on frame1 of my movie that I want to apply to multiple instances of the same movie clip:

Essentially, specifiedClip_mc's parent clip is what's throwing me here. The code to be applied to specifiedClip_mc is identical and I'm not going the correct route by doing this the long repetitive way.
I was just wondering if there is a way to simplify this code. I have 3 identical movie clips and I use actionscript to alter the color to the same color. Right now I use 3 different colorTransform variables. Could I just use one since its all the same color? How would it look like.
So far, naming all the movie clips the same instance name did not work. Is there a better way?
I'm making a gallery using XML data and loading the information into a mc instance that are in turn being attached to the stage via linkage id. My question is this: I need to make all of those instances fade out with a function, and I have created a for loop to do this, however it is not working.. Any suggestions on how to make it work?
Okay, here is what I am trying to do, and I have attempted it several different ways. I would like to generate a grid of squares (movieclip `clip_Square` with Export for AS Linkage). The grid generates just fine 10x10, as expected. However, in addition to having this grid, I would like to be able to reference properties of each individual square when they are clicked on. Unfortunately, the function only references the last movieclip, not the movieclip being clicked (onMouseUp).
And if you replace txtDebug.text = "Square_"+i; with trace(this._name);, the output window displays the names of every square when you click one. What am I doing wrong? Is there a tutorial someone could point me towards..
I am looking for some help on a specific effect. I was pretty good in the old days in flash but I have fallen behind badly and the new action script and such is making my head spin a bit. The effect I am looking to do is like the FETblur,first one on the page, [URL]...

I'm trying to do this as a bit of a transition. It's always the same movieclip.I just want to give it a duration, actually the same duration as something else I have going on, so I can reuse the variable "fadeDuration"Then I just want to set the maximum blur amount.I have no idea how to go about this. I have a short TEXT that I turned into a symbol, it is a MovieClip on the stage. I applied a preset motion of blur fly in to it and it does fly in but does not blur. I tried to use the motion editor to increase a blur to 255 but even when I add it on the initial keyframe, there is NO blur.
on a project in Flash CS4 for Windows. I have an object on a layer that moves separately at different times of the animation (all one large motion tween). I'm attempting to apply an ease to just one leg of that motion, but instead, when I choose an ease setting in the motion editor, the ease is applied to the entire tween (so it affects the stationary frames too!). Is there a way to apply an ease to a single span of motion instead of the entire motion tween?Alternatively (if it's not possible), is there an easy workflow for breaking-up a motion tween in to separate motion tweens while maintaining the position of the object in between the motion tweens? (I don't want to use the frame-by-frame animation conversion option I've seen.)
Using AS3 I am dynamically creating, sizing, positioning and formatting a textfield. I am dynamically setting the content of the textfield from the contents of an xml file. I am trying to use the bold tag and noticed that it is not working. After a bit of searching the best I could come up with is "Flash CS4 tag in with htmlText". Bottom line: I have to embed an emboldened fontface.
As an example, let's say I want to use Tahoma. In my .fla file (using Flash CS4) I embed Tahoma and export it for use in actionscript. This lets me use Tahoma as a font in my textfield. If I try to use the b tag (textfield.htmlText="not bold, <b>bold</b>";) the bold text does not get emboldened. Based on the above question I have now embedded the Bold version of Tahoma as well.
How do I link the bold version of Tahoma with the regular version of Tahoma so that when using the bold tag I get bold text in my textfield?

code continues like this for all the buttons (84 thumbnail images), so they will open a larger image when clicked. So what I now need to do is connect the side navigation buttons to go to the relevant page (frame) when clicked...the problem I'm having is that it is causing duplications in the code ie; I now have, for instance thumbnail (btn4) calling frame 4, but I also need a side navigation button to call this frame.

I using the 3D Carousel from flashcomponents.net and I need to figure out how to get the images blur when they are not the front focal on the Carousel. I tried an onRelease (which works to un-blur it), but I didn't know what else to pair it with so when I click on another object it blurs and goes to the back. I don't want it to blur when I roll off, only when another object is clicked.
I have text that I would like to come in to the stage from the side, but I would like it to be a horizontal blur like it is fast, then unblur to a sharp text. Is this something that I can do in all within Flash?

i've created a movieclip that i'm applying a simple blur filter to and in Flash when i play the timeline it runs with no problems although when i publish the movie the blur doesn't display - i've run out of ideas about why this could be! I've looked online and can't find any suggestions either - does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?
I have created a video for my flash application, convert it into a flv file.Now, I have imported it into flash in a layer, then I have created a new layer where I would yo place a mask with gaussia blur. You ca see example in the pic.I draw a mask into flash, converted it into a movieclip and assign to it a gaussian blur from the filter panel. But when I send the fla in execution (Ctrl+Enter), the video appear through the mask, but this one have not gaussian blur filter applied.
I was wondering if it is possible to blur something that is drawn dynamically? I have a dynamic line that zig zags, but when I attempt to put a blur action on to it, it does not appear blurred. Does anyone have an idea how to get this line to look blurred? (I'm trying to achieve a spray paint effect).
I've got a strange problem with the blur tool. I have a movie clip that i have added a motion tween to and applied a blur to it - so the movie clip image blurs as it moves. This was working perfectly when i first tested it and as i've continued with the creating the flash file and re-tested for some reason the blur is no longer displaying. It's strange as it shows as blurred in the Flash file i'm editing but when i press F12 to display in a SWF it's not blurring. I've attached the file i'm working on
