I can't seem to figure out why only one out of the five text fields show when I export my fla. The title and images work fine but none of the other descriptors are not working. What am I doing wrong? I checked my instance names and they all match. I've tried using .text and .HTMLText in the AS and nothing.

I've got a flash movie with a menu that jumps to a particular frame to load a page. On that frame, there is a movie clip (instance name: scrollbox_frame), and in that movie clip there is a four-layer animation. One of the layers is not animated but contains a dynamic text box (instance name: about_frame), with multi-line and HTML turned on, and a variable name of "aboutus". This is the code that is triggered by the menu button on the root of the flash movie:

i have a problem with flash. i have a psd file which i create my logo on, and now i wanna copy the text over to flash to animate, i found out it was copy out as a layer, not the text only itself.
it is the same as with the shapes that i have created in photoshop, is there anyway that i can copy to flash with these problems? if i am able to copy and trace in flash. how can i go about it?
I am importing a picture in flash and i found out that there is a difference between importing to the stage, and importing to the library... [URL] I've placed both picture close of each other and if you look closely, you'll notice that one of them is losing some resolution. Both picture come from the same file, a png. The picture imported to the stage is sharper than the one imported to the library. is there a way to import that picture to the library without losing any resolution?

Pk 3.These are the AI Import Preferences:I'm trying to import some text, grayscale with suitable stroke and drop shadow, from a finished Board in Illustrator. I've made PNG's, to allow for a transparent background, at both 300 and 600 ppi. I know these are large, but it doesn't matter too much in this movie. It worked well in the Color version.
When I bring them into Flash there is a distinct difference in the quality of each, of course, but both are jagged when transforming them down to the size needed. The ones at 600ppi are better but there is still a visual distortion due to the jaggedness.

I am working in Flash CS4 (AS3).What I have created is basically a simple photo gallery. About 5 thumbs that when rolled over a larger version appears. Both the thumbnail images and larger images are loading dynamically.I've got that working.What it's missing is a headline and a sub headline for each pic that comes up. I need to do this from an external text file.
I was able to do this with AS2.AS3 not so much. How do I control the content of multiple dynamic text boxes on different places throughout the timeline with an external text file in AS3? I just want to name different text boxes different names and have the external text file pass the variables into my swf for each text box.
The attached picture shows the document I'm referring to. The large image in the background rotates to other images using an XML file which provides the location for Flash to find them.I'd like to do something similar with the text located on the left. While I think it'd be easy to import plain text into a dynamic text box using action script - I need some of them to include links to different urls and different sized text (like the image shows)...

In the library there are four .swf movie files and I don't think they were made in the adobe flash software as they would have taken all day to do. Is there a program out there that can quickly make cool text effects with a transparent background and then be able to import the finished txt effect into adobe flash and use in the fla file?

I have found that Flash does not support the DOM command 'getElementsByTagName()' which I was endeavouring to use to find the record in the XML file that I wanted to associate with a particular dynamic text field.
Is there any other way to search through the XML file for the particular record I am looking for?
I have a text field and I want to import text to it and then format that text using an external .css file and it all needs to be done in AS3. I can easily load in the .txt file - but I cannot seem to get it formatted.

I have a file where I am importing dynamic text with buttons and a scrollbar. Everything pulls in and is working fine except... I have one document where the dynamic text that is pulled in is short and really doesn't need to scroll. It appears fine but say you click one of the buttons or scrollbar by accident or curiosity. The movie just starts vibrating... it doesn't like thst the text is short. I don't want to take the stuff out because the info will always change and some days it may need buttons soma days not.
View 8 RepliesI have a inDesign CS4 (.4 update) exported SWF that behaves badly when it is imported into Flash Pro CS4 (.2 update). Hyphens in the text on word breaks are being changed into question marks. Font used is Arial. The SWF ( attached) views fine in Flash Player 10, but produces the errors when imported to the stage. I have tried all settings (Text to Vector Paths, Text to Flash text) but the result is the same. Rasterizing the text is unacceptable because text quality is severely reduced on zooming the Flash document.
If you try importing the attached SWF to a blank file stage, you will see the errors on page 3.So far, the only fix I have is creating all text in flash.
I created a very complex Illustrator file and imported it into Flash. ALL of the text objects were:
1. invisible!, and
2. moved to the top left corner for the document!
When I import the following XML and put the contents in a dynamic text field the beginning spaces disappear.
View 2 RepliesI'm importing a large text file and trying to print it with a footer. My method for all of this is very simple. I'm dynamically creating a sprite container that is fed to the the printjob() class. Inside that I'm creating a dynamic text field and scaling it to the right page height/width (408x574) and adding a footer below that.
Using a loop, I'm scrolling the text field to the top of the next page and adding the page number to the footer and adding the page to the job. Mostly, this works fine, but I'm noticing some lines from the text field are not printing. This happens at the page breaks and is not consistent across different printers I use.

I'm importing html with <strong> tags and using CSS to style my text however everything it runs into a closing </strong> tag it adds a line break for some odd reason and i was wondering if anyone knows a way to fix this?
View 1 RepliesI have a flash site (scene 1) with scrollable text fields. I want to create a separate (popup) flash page in a completely separate scene (scene 2) that will open in a new window from a link within scene 1.
In scene 1 there are various frames within the timeline that contain scrollable dynamic text (information) that will occasionally be updated.
I want a popup window to open scene 2 and contain the updated information from scene 1. In other words, I don't want to have to update both scenes to display the same information.
There are actually several frames that contain different information in each and I want all the information to appear in scene 2 in a stacked order as dynamic text so that users can scroll through all the pages from scene 1 without having to navigate to other frames.
I know that I've seen a few threads about this, but I'm not finding what I'm looking for. I've got an AS2 flash site using XML to import the text, then parsing it. I have a function that gets the text, then applies styles (css) to it. I'm wondering if there is an easy way to strip the unintentional line breaks at the same time, within the same function? MC_1 :Is the selection menu.I want to import from a text file the different help sections or catagories....eg.. Setup, Administration, Customizing, etc......Then i want to import from text files that are labelled and corrisponding to each section that will list the actual different help selections...eg..(Setup) would have sub menu options of System Requirements,Server Install, Client Install.I would have these sub menus in listed in different text files for each section heading.
MC_2 :Then when somene clicks on the submenu options like 'Server Install' in the given example Movie Clip 2 would import from yet another text file the actual help information in an HTML format

I've used Authowrware previously and it was quite easy to create a large string of data (a comma separated list) and export that to a text file (and create the text file if it didn't already exist). I could then easily append additional rows of data (records) to the text file. We want to build a questionnaire that will store the data locally on the computer in a text file. Each record may have a few hundred data points in a comma separated list.

The problem is that on several occasions I need to use the special code "" to start a new line (for formatting purposes) but when I'm pulling the text in from the XML file this is not starting a new line any more - it is just appearing as normal in the text. (e.g "Here is some example game text") How do I get around this?

The button is isolated in its own FLA and SWF file(s). The plan was to import the common button, add a text label, and position it appropriately on the page. Then move on to the next button or whatever. That's the plan; now here's the problem: I'm completely at a loss as to how to go about doing it. I've tried to follow a couple of tutorials, but, I keep getting lost.
View 1 RepliesI've always been able to import dwg/dwx files into Illustrator, edit out layers I dont need, export to swf, and import into Flash MX. I just got some new CAD files that wont open in Illustrator and am kinda stuck without a solution. Purchasing new software is no big deal I just want to be sure that it will open these new files and be able to export to Flash in a usable format.
