I cannot seem to get a swf to get refreshed data from an external txt file on a localhost (I am using Xampp on a mac), whereas the very simple dynamic textboxes that I have load the data easily from my regular hard drive folder.

And I have a textfield with variable set to jor.. Which is the variable from the php file which holds data from the database. When I change text in the database it doesn't change in the swf unless I go to internet properties and empty the cache.... even when I hit refresh it doesn't update. How do I make it so each time u load the swf it refreshes data from the database?
The questions I posted last week dealt with XML and localConnection. Basically I had 2 swfs on a page. The main swf has the ability to modify some XML data (via an ASP script and database.) The second swf includes content populated by some of that XML data. When the data is modified, the first swf sends a call to the second (via localConnection) to refresh that data. I had everything working perfectly Saturday afternoon until I tested it in IE7 (on Win XP Home.) Older versions of IE, Firefox and Safari all showed no problems, but when the data should have been modified nothing seemed to happen. Nothing updated, etc.
I was able to confirm in the database that the update was actually happening, just not appearing. At first I thought IE7 wasn't playing nice with localConnection, but I eventually determined that IE7 wasn't playing nice with XML since it would happen in swfs that didn't use localConnection at all. localConnection was running and acting as it should, but IE7 was caching the XML feed even though the only component ever making a call to the XML was the swf. The XML was getting cached in IE and IE wouldn't let go (the only way to see updated data was closing and reopening the browser,or going into 7's new browsing history to delete the cache.)
The work-around I used was to add a querystring variable to URL for the XML feed. Every time the swf looks for it, it uses getTime to add a number of milliseconds to the end of the string so IE thinks it's getting a new file:

I've been testing it on and off since Saturday evening and it seems to work without issue.
I can't figure this out. When I test a URL page with an embedded SWF file (using [URL]) I cannot get the embedded SWF to play more than one or two frames. However, if I upload this same flash-embedded html page, and test it on the WWW, then it seesm to play without a glitch.
View 1 Repliesit seems that Flash was supposed to run in a sandbox in the browser. But, if Flash can get data from a remote server, can it similarly get data from localhost IP on the same machine? In other words, can I use a Windows app that provides a TCP socket on localhost to feed data into a Flash app?the answer is yes at least for the case of an SWF file hosted in the file system, URL...(turns out the localhost access error can be fixed if you add the SWF app to some security whitelist). Still wondering if this can also be done for SWF apps hosted on the network.

View 2 RepliesI have had some success using LocalConnection between SWFs.I can have a connection function between a preloader SWF and its child, and another connection work between two SWFs present on the same webpage......most of the time.
If I run my SWFs in a webpage from my localhost (ie my local testing PC) a particular LocalConnection will fail about 50% of the time. If the same SWFs are run on a remote server (ie the inernet) the LocalConnection works 100% of the time.SWF 'A' is sending to SWF 'B'Bizarrely, the LocalConnection going the other way, from SWF 'B' to SWF 'A' works 100%.
All the other LocalConnections I have used all work 100% of the time.I have tried adding a listener to the eventStatus which reports when the connection fails.I have also tried allowDomain(), although Im not sure it is neccessary since all the SWFs are hosted from the same domain anyway.Why should a LocalConnection behave differently depending on where the SWFs are hosted?
I have a problem with a video gallery I integrated into my site...the flash works fine on my local machine and displays videos fine but when uploaded on the server it does not load and everyone gets the message as if we did not have flash installed on the machine[URL]

i have realy pain start with af3 when i was fine with as2.one of my probleme is i load a login.swf from localhost .

Basically I cannot get an Air or Flex application connected to a remote mysql db to work once deployed. How can I successfully move a finished application to a normal web server (website).
When testing everything works no problem but as soon as I deploy the gateway.php (regardless of where i put it on my web server) will not connect. I've even tried flash builder 4 auto generated code and still no luck

problem with a website that when I see in local mode everything is ok but when upload it to the server something is wrong , if you go toin the Menus section if press the photo and then try to expand it, not expand properly, so you have to press again to view it correctly. I've got some coding to create buttons into an array, and on press of these buttons the function should remove something from another array and remove the last one of the line, so far the coding is working for the first removal, however thereafter the other buttons stay there I think it's to do with the line in bold but I cant put my finger on what's wrong with it! I'm having a problem refreshing an xml file. I am bringing it in through an HTTP service component and putting it into a bindable array _cattArr, that I am using as the dataprovider for a grid.When someone adds an item to the datagrid, it saves to the same xml file. Then I close the window, reopen it and don't see the item that has been added.It is writing to the xml file, because when I restart the flex app, the item has been added, it's just not refreshing it. I have tried to resend the httpservice, but still no luck. What is the correct process for doing this?

Is there a way to refresh a component or an application back to its initial state? I have an accordion navigator that stays on the most recently selected index even if I log out. Right now, my log out function takes me back to the login page which is at state(1). If I log back in and go into the accordion, it is on the last tab I had viewed.I would like to be able to clear any data from the controls inside the nav and reset the nav back to its default. I thought something like,

However, after an unpredictable amount of time it will stop refreshing - appearing as if it has frozen. But escaping the app out of fullscreen mode will cause it to instantly revive into action as if nothing had happened. Returning to fullscreen then will once again "freeze" after time, but its not technically freezing due to memory issues, it just won't continue to display unless escaped.

The streaming provider is going to provide me with a txt file that is going to be refreshed every time the song changes .
So we have a txt file changing it's contents , now how can i make the swf refreshing it self to read the new changed txt file and displaying it ?
The best solution would be the swf refreshing every time the txt changes but i believe this isn't possible. So how can i at least refresh it let's say every 2 minutes or so ?

Alright. I've made a tool in flash that calculates the value of money in comparison to the value of goods avaliable. however, the values that my program is supposed to calculate wont update when variables are changed, how do i fix this?

As a brief explanation, I have 4 sets of buttons (the code for the first two sets is in there), They Create goods that are used to back paper currency (amtGood and amtMon are the amount of goods and money). To calculate the dollar value of goods, the total money is devided by the total amount of goods. However it won't calculate anything but the original 10/10
Building a website and the navigation menu is flash (.swf file). The mnuLoader.swf file retrieves information from settings.xml file. Everything worked perfectly when I tested in localhost/website/page.html. When I upload to hosting server www.website/index.html the mnuLoader.swf displays but does not load (its like it can't find the settings or picture files and displays the same as when you are waiting for something to load etc).
I have tried changing the xml file path from relative to absolute and no change. All three files index.html - mnuLoader.swf - settings.xml are in the same directory and the mnu_imgs folder contains the img icons for the menu. I don't understand why it would work on localhost but not on the actual server? Also directly underneath on the website I have another flash banner (just looping text pretty much) that works fine both on localhost and actual server so am pretty sure is not an access issue etc.

I tried some applications like vod and live with localhost.Now I'm trying to use some applications on my site. It's the first thing you need to do, but apparently it's so basic that I can't find information about it.Can someone explain me how to change the "localhost" to a webserver? In other words, how do I set up an application like vod on my site?
