The questions I posted last week dealt with XML and localConnection. Basically I had 2 swfs on a page. The main swf has the ability to modify some XML data (via an ASP script and database.) The second swf includes content populated by some of that XML data. When the data is modified, the first swf sends a call to the second (via localConnection) to refresh that data. I had everything working perfectly Saturday afternoon until I tested it in IE7 (on Win XP Home.) Older versions of IE, Firefox and Safari all showed no problems, but when the data should have been modified nothing seemed to happen. Nothing updated, etc.
I was able to confirm in the database that the update was actually happening, just not appearing. At first I thought IE7 wasn't playing nice with localConnection, but I eventually determined that IE7 wasn't playing nice with XML since it would happen in swfs that didn't use localConnection at all. localConnection was running and acting as it should, but IE7 was caching the XML feed even though the only component ever making a call to the XML was the swf. The XML was getting cached in IE and IE wouldn't let go (the only way to see updated data was closing and reopening the browser,or going into 7's new browsing history to delete the cache.)
The work-around I used was to add a querystring variable to URL for the XML feed. Every time the swf looks for it, it uses getTime to add a number of milliseconds to the end of the string so IE thinks it's getting a new file:

I've been testing it on and off since Saturday evening and it seems to work without issue.
I have a very simple panel for adding some data to MySQL db using php scripts. The main view of that panel is a list of the collected data and a button to add a row at the end of the current db records. Here's the work flow:
- I click the button to add a record
- Fill out the form
- Hit the submit button
- The record has been added to the db
- The form disapears and the list of the records is displayed again
The problem is: - The list with the records doesn't include just added record To solve that problem I came up with an idea to put all the elements within the MovieClip "list", and try to remove this MovieClip from memmory and redo whole script again. Submit button of the form has the code to trigger the php script adding the records and tells the timeline to gotoAndPlay(2) which the code you'll find below. Unfortunately, that seems to not working.

I'm creating a whole website with one .fla file. I'll attach the flash file to a html page in dreamweaver and that'll be that. But something has occured to me and that is if anyone presses the refresh button, the whole site will jump to the frame just after the preloader. Which would be fine under a normal circumstance if the main page were on that frame but in this website there is a movieclip on that frame which forms into the main page on the frame after.
So how do get it to refresh onto the main page?
i'm sending flash vars to php, but the .swf refresh when the fuction "send" is call.

Is it possible to pass file names from a running Flash application, which only purpose is to enable multiple-file-selection, to a JavaScript application which handles upload of all files to the server?I have examined various Flash upload solutions (like SWFUpload, Uploadify, etc.) and none of them meets my needs. I want an easy to implement solution (like Uploadify) which also lets me specify various parts of the HTTP request.
The reason I need this is because my upload form uses session cookies (for user authentication) and an CSRF token both passed to the server when uploading files.Is it technically possible to pass filenames (+ paths) to a JavaScript application which then handles the upload?
Here's the challenge: I have a Flash movie which will be embedded in a page using an unknown DOM ID that I want to be able to identify/store for callback in a JS function. My ideal user flow would be: User clicks button in Flash. Flash pauses any animations / video / sounds / etc. Flash calls an injected JS function to display a page-covering overlay experience. When user closes overlay experience, a callback method on the Flash object is called. Flash resumes playback.
The problem is, when AS3 uses the ExternalInterface.call("functionName", args...) method, there doesn't seem to be a DOM event triggered, and thus it is impossible to tell which object called a JS function, so having a "registerMe()" function doesn't seem to work. Basically, the injected JS function has no way to determine which DOM object to call, because the ID of the Flash object is unknown.

View 2 RepliesWith all the recent hype about JavaScript and HTML5 replacing Flash, I wanted to know - How would it be possible to protect client-side js code? Of course, it is possible to obfuscate it, but that would only make it a little harder. Also, for games which submit high scores to the server, wouldn't it be incredibly easy to modify those scores before they are sent to the server? I know even Flash files can be decompiled, but they can be obfuscated and flash decompilation is not as easy as modifying data in JS - could be done easily using a plugin such as Firebug. I'd like to know everyone's views on this.

I know a Flash object can provide a javascript API to interact with it, what I dont know is can Flash send an email directly without the need to talk to the webserver to do so? The player needs to be javascript enabled (support methods like play, stop etc.) The mp3 tracklist will be built dynamically using ajax on the same page as the player so it must trigger an event when a track finishes playing (or at least provide functionality of some kind to indicate that it's time to start the next track). I've got some coding to create buttons into an array, and on press of these buttons the function should remove something from another array and remove the last one of the line, so far the coding is working for the first removal, however thereafter the other buttons stay there I think it's to do with the line in bold but I cant put my finger on what's wrong with it! I'm having a problem refreshing an xml file. I am bringing it in through an HTTP service component and putting it into a bindable array _cattArr, that I am using as the dataprovider for a grid.When someone adds an item to the datagrid, it saves to the same xml file. Then I close the window, reopen it and don't see the item that has been added.It is writing to the xml file, because when I restart the flex app, the item has been added, it's just not refreshing it. I have tried to resend the httpservice, but still no luck. What is the correct process for doing this?

Is there a way to refresh a component or an application back to its initial state? I have an accordion navigator that stays on the most recently selected index even if I log out. Right now, my log out function takes me back to the login page which is at state(1). If I log back in and go into the accordion, it is on the last tab I had viewed.I would like to be able to clear any data from the controls inside the nav and reset the nav back to its default. I thought something like,

However, after an unpredictable amount of time it will stop refreshing - appearing as if it has frozen. But escaping the app out of fullscreen mode will cause it to instantly revive into action as if nothing had happened. Returning to fullscreen then will once again "freeze" after time, but its not technically freezing due to memory issues, it just won't continue to display unless escaped.
View 2 RepliesThe preloader works fine in all browsers except in IE if you reload (refresh) the webpage the preloader stops at 0. It works OK the first time if your cache is cleared but not the second.

I want to make a web radio and i want to have a box displaying the current song playing and the song that is going to be loaded after.
In fact i need a solution to the first one as the second is the same.
The streaming provider is going to provide me with a txt file that is going to be refreshed every time the song changes .
So we have a txt file changing it's contents , now how can i make the swf refreshing it self to read the new changed txt file and displaying it ?
The best solution would be the swf refreshing every time the txt changes but i believe this isn't possible. So how can i at least refresh it let's say every 2 minutes or so ?
I cannot seem to get a swf to get refreshed data from an external txt file on a localhost (I am using Xampp on a mac), whereas the very simple dynamic textboxes that I have load the data easily from my regular hard drive folder.
