How can I turn every specific character in a word in a textbox to specific color? this works like highlighting. If I have the word Jeeves in TextField object, I would like each occurrence of Jeeves in this TextFIeld to become red or any other color. In AS2 I had to search the text for keywords and use the TextFormat class. and then handle keypresses for the textbox for highlighting as the user is typing. How can a highlight a text in dynamic text field?

My pseudo code is given below:
/***Handles Keyback, it should delete the pevious char entered in the text box*/
private function handleDelCharEvent() {
aArray[nCurCharInd] = "";

I am in the making of a isometric level editor, and I have about 15 movie clips with more to come. I want to let people change the color of tiles to what they want from a list of colors, so how can I let them change the color of a tile dinamicly with actionscript so that it changes a tile's color while preserving changes of "shadows"? I mean I have let's say a cube and to make it look 3D I need to change each face to make a feeling of 3D and not a flat one.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Text Color & HTML Background Color

Jun 18, 2009

So i'm working on this website and I want to be able to switch out the entire color scheme on the website everytime a button is pressed, I've stepped away from flash for awhile and actionscript 3 is new me. Plus I haven't quite found any truely useful stuff on forums yet.

What i can't figure out is when a button is pressed the HTML background color changes to one of 5 preselected colors (that alternate ever time the button is pressed). Then for each background change the text changes too as it is part of a entire new color scheme.

What I've managed so far is to change the color of the background thats within the Flash file. What i did was to make a movie clip that plays to a next frame and stop everytime the button is pressed. Now i just need to also get to change the HTML color and the font colors.

//"homeText" being the name of dynamic text field and "Button" the name of the button and "background" being the movie clip that is the background within the flash file.

Button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, Button_CLICK);
function Button_CLICK(e:MouseEvent):void{
background.play();    homeText.TextFormat(color "0x000000");}

I'm not sure if my code is just sloppy or if i'm completely going the wrong route here.

With get- and setTextformat I can set the individual color of a section in a TextField. There is a problem with getting and setting a textformat from and to a TLF (set- does give an error message when putting the TextFormat back to the TLF).Now if I have two strings and want them to have different color and size in one TLF what would be a good way to do that. I don't want to programm all TextFormat propertys for every different Text in my application.

Actionscript 3.0 :: User Inputted Text: Determining If A Specific Character Is C?

May 4, 2010

I'm creating a learning activity for one of our biology classes. The basis of the activity is to test students ability to transcribe and translate DNA into other sequences.I have a dynamic text field where the student would type in a 36 character sequence.

I already know that I can use an if statement to see if all 36 characters are correct. I was wondering if there was a way to individually check each letter the student typed in is the correct one for that line. So if UUAACCGG is the correct answer, I want flash to check and see if the third character is indeed A or not.I know I can do this with 36 individual text boxes, but I was kind of hoping to get away with just one big text box.
