I am trying to make an object smoothly rotate towards the mouse.
ActionScript Code:
var rot:Number = 0;
var smoothing:int = 5;
stage.addEventListener("enterFrame", step);
function step(e:Event):void {
// point_direction is a function I have created that finds the angle between 2 points. I know this functions works as it is supposed to
rot = point_direction(obj.x, obj.y, mouseX, mouseY);
obj.rotation += (rot - obj.rotation) / smoothing;
}
This code works, except when I pass the mouse over the center of the object on the left side it seems to spin the long way around. So if I move the mouse down the center of the object on it's left side, it will spin a long way counter-clockwise to reach the mouse instead of the tiny length if it had spun clockwise.

I was certain that this type of problem would have been previously discussed here or in a tutorial. I have looked quite a bit and could not find anything that puts all the pieces of my puzzle together.As the movie is playing (looping), I would like the movie to stop at the current frame whenever I click and hold the mouse down within the area of the container. Furthermore, I would like to be able to scrub the movie backward if I drag my mouse to the left within the container and as I reach the left end of the container, the movie is at the first frame. And similarly, I would like to scrub forward if I drag to the right within the container and as I reach the right end of the container, the movie is at the last frame. On top of this daunting task, I would like the movie to resume playing from wherever I have released the mouse.
Here is a file that I have started and I am pretty much at a loss as to where to go now. I know it has something to do with where the mouse is relative to either side of the container, but...how does one get it to work?Basically, I would like to emulate the functionality of the QuickTime Player - the one where you can grab the slider and drag it left or right to scrub in either direction and then upon release of the slider it resumes playing.I do not understand the media components in MX 2004, maybe this type of thing is "easy" to program in to one of those modules?

I am basically trying to create a display object transformation manager which will allow me to scale/rotate objects. I am currently trying to figure out how to rotate an object so its corner follows the current x and y of the mouse. I always get confused on the math of things like this. I know how to listen for the events and everything, I just am unsure of how to calculate the amount of rotation to apply. I will probably be rotating via a Matrix so I can rotate the object around its center, rather than the upper-left corner of it. My question here is: how do I get values when I don't want them constrained, like scaleX and scaleY?

The title pretty much sums up what I am trying to do: I haven't started digging into using script in Flash yet, still being very much a beginner.
I created a simple file using movie clips nested in buttons so that when I mouseover a letter, it bobs up and down, but I can't work out how to make it return to its original "up" state *smoothly* when the mouse is moved away. If it must involve script please be aware I am a total noob!

Here is the code that I have, I know that these are the basic elements wihc I need to use, individually they work but together they don't
on (press) { this.startDrag(); } on (release) { stopDrag(); } }
this._y+= this._ymouse/4; this._x+= this._xmouse/4;
So what I am trying to do is to get the object to move slower than the mouse but finish moving wherever I let go of the click. So far I can get the object to move with the mouse without clicking and dragging at a slow speed but I cant get the drag to work at a slower speed, it will move as fast as the mouse moves.

I am currently working on putting together a small game map, a map where a character can walk around and talk to NPC's and such. We've just started to I am pretty much just working with the basics here. Just started learning AS3 too. I have created an Object, in this case a circle that gets drawn when I run my AS code, the circle is drawn in the midde of my stage. What I want, since the game is Isometric and moves in those isometric lines rather than straight up, down, left, right, I want to make a funktion where, if the mouse is clicked at a location where both the X and Y coordinate is less than where the object is, then the object moves to that place.
The code I have, is as follows at the moment:
ActionScript Code:
var xNewPos:int;
var yNewPos:int;
var inTransit:Boolean = false;
[Code].....

I have is Adobe fl CS4. I succussfully created a scene with all correct layers including a start button action script. No errors works great. Now my next challenge is, how do I cause a word to apear? I created some objects that I want to select and cause a word to appear and color to change, once I hover over the object. It is like the same method when you create a 'start button.' Do I create another sub scene in the action script command?

I have a flash shooter game and after a user shoots a bottle, i play the destroy animation and remove it from the screen. The problem is when the user click too fast, like superman fast it enters on the method twice, no matter what.
Here is the code:
public function bottleHasClicked(bottle : BottleBase) : void {
bottle.mouseEnabled = false;
collectedBottles++;
[Code]....
The first thing i do is to disable the object mouse, and it still happens. I only enable it when im gonna show the bottles again.

I have objects that the user can click&drag. They're PNGs, mainly rectangular, no problem till here.But I then had to put an L-shaped object (a PNG with a lot of transparency), so i've made a movieclip with an shape with the same L shape than the png, and use it as its hitArea:
shape.visible= false;
shape.mouseEnabled= false;
obj.addChild(shape);
obj.hitArea= shape;
This works PERFECT, the mouse events respond as expected, and I can click on objects that are below/above the transparent area of the png/object.All objects are inside a Sprite called playgroundLayer1. The issue comes when I take the L-shaped object and put it on another Sprite (playgroundLayer2), that is above the playgroundLayer1.I this case, I can click&drag on the L, but no object below the transparent area of the L receives mouse events.

I think I might of already posted this, but the forums are loading at about 400k a sec so I don't feel like wasting another 25 minutes just look through the first page of threads or my history.
I have an object that I want to smoothly move along the x axis when the user clicks on the screen. I first made a prototype that would make the ball end at a location I specified by doing x = 450; I then tried looping ball1.x += 1 with a for/do (I encapsulated it with a boolean so the if ball1.x got to 450 it would stop) statement and I couldn't see the ball transition, I just saw it stop at the 450 mark.

i'm rewriting my game code in as3 and can't figure out how to make my hero move smoothly once the directional keys are down. In as2 all I had to do was putting a line lke this: "if(key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)" and as long as the right arrow was being pressed, my hero was moving nicely across the screen. In as3, however, having written a very similar code, the hero knd of gets oddly "blocked" from moving. My as code looks liek this:

[URL]. Link to my problem .swf file. I am trying to get the bullet to fly in smoothly and ease to a stop. Also there appears to be some audio trying to play, but I have no audio in the library, or the stage! I can't get this animation to play smoothly at all. This was originally exported from an After Effects project (CS4) and there are only 8 layers - 1 for the bullet, 4 for button text, 1 of the main title, 1 of the dude standing (I'm hopefully going to have the title fly in from behind him) 1 of the bg and other text together. Why this animation won't play right? (I'm using Flash CS4 to do this).
