I have an AS2 Flash file that is displayed within 2 different HTML pages. I want to determine, when I click on a link, which of these pages the Flash file is in. Is this possible? Is there a way to determine the parent page's name? If so, how do I do this?
View 2 RepliesI have a cms where my client loads banner ads from their clients. They don't know the dimensions or don't want to enter them when they upload the banners. Is it possible to capture the dimensions to set the object attributes as we grab the movies from the db to display in the page?I read that the movie dimensions are available in the loaderinfo object, but this is a AS3 object right? Are AS3 objects available outside the flash movie? Can I access the loaderobject via javascript?The Flash movies we're trying to load are not ours, we don't have access to the flas or anything like that so we can't edit anything to do with the movies themselves.

IE7, SP2, latest flash/java. Only reproducible on one machine. Observations: Smaller than a javascript alert box, and seems to be generated when a swf on my web page loads. The dialog is modal, however, like an alert box.
I've tried matching the configuration of the machine in question, but a recreation of the machine does not get this error. I'm not ultra-familiar with flash/flex, so is there something that flex/flash could do which would cause this error dialog to appear.
How would one even go about debugging this? It's mostly not reproducible aside from a single machine, and the circumstances which cause the error are unknown.
I'm making a roll over flash file, it contains 3 roll over buttons on the left panel and each brings up a piece of unique text. What i'm having problems with is getting one of the buttons to stay up when the webpage loads but then changes if you choose another roll over button. Also i want the text for each button to stay up if i leave the button roll over area but it changes to the other if a different roll over button is hit.

and I have this swf file with cms that I'd like for this menu to load. Currently the swf file load external text using this code:

but when the xml menu loads this swf file its structure loads but not its data.I tried using :

in the loading swf main time line but it did not work.I should also mention that the dynamic data that loads onto the swf that is to be loaded by the menu, resides not in it main time line but 4 movie clips deep .I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

View 1 RepliesI'm have a flash file which loads an xml file sub.domain.com/data.xml. It loads fine when the swf is loaded from sub.domain.com but it does not load from [URL]..It's all the same directory on the webserver. I tried using crossdomain.xml and allowed access from *.sub.domain.com. Doesn't work.
Any idea what would work? besides using php to determine the current domain (www or not) and load in the path via flashvars.
I have an animated logo swf file that loads and runs once on the home page every time the page loads. The logo has been updated to appear in three different colour schemes. I want one scheme to load and when the page is refreshed or revisited, one of the other colour schemes to load in its place. They can appear in any random order, just a different one to the one that played before reloading.Can someone point me to an answer or tell me how to do it? I have found a way in JavaScript but this only works on plain images, not swf files.

I've been looking around like a forensic scientist piecing together information for my latest project. Basically I need to display a particular webpage within my flash file... Now I know flash can display simple HTML, but nothing complex and nothing from an external source... BUT I know flash can also handle PHP - obviously. The page I need to load is a wordpress website, a combination of PHP codes and simple HTML snippets... but what I couldn't find was a way of inserting the snippets into a control box or movieclip on my page (actually run the PHP code to fetch HTML snippets).

I am trying to figure out how to run a php file when a flash file is opened on a site or ran. the php file has no output or anything to do with the flash, it just needs to be run to update the mysql database. I need the script to be run from my site even if the flash is on another site, but i do not want to show that it is being run. I want it to be a hidden thing. I figure I can load the content of my flash page from a notepad file within the same directory.I would prefer to not make the editor use a FTP program, so I figure the best method is a webpage where the person can log in and type the updated text and have it create a new notepad file and overwrite the old one. Everything works well the only problem is I've promised a client that as well as a "title" and "description" I will also include a clickable URL link. I can edit the flash to a certain extent but I am having a nightmare of a time including a clickable url. Is there anyone out there who can help? "photo_description", "photo_title" and "photo_url" are the names of the dynamic text fields.

I am creating a library like flash file for our game. I am using adobe flash cs5 with as3 and adobe indesign. I am still very new at flash(a real newbie) and i am wondering if anyone could help me in my problem.
i have a movieclip file named "mainPage". mainPage contains 6 buttons (with a cyrstal design) but lets focus only on 1 button. The 1st button contains the name Art_btn which calls the movieclip artBook when the button is clicked (which is my problem) . I have another movieclip named "artBook". the contents in my artBook are separated or written on each frames that could be called when clicked next or prev.
here is my prob. i dont know what is the right code that would call for artBook when Art_btn is clicked.i tried inserting codes such as loadMovie, gotoAndPlay and addChild but when I test it, the mainPage contents doesnt show up and it produces errors.

View 2 RepliesEverything is embedded in an HTML site. The HTML loads a preloader that then loads the actual flash movie. Inside this movie I created a few buttons, inside a scroll bar movie clip. I want the buttons to load a whole new movie inside the same html. The code I'm using in the button is simply:

The problem is that it works beautifully in the Flash movie tester but doesn't do anything when tested inside the browser, embedded in the HTML. I think the problem is that the HTML embeds as an object the first movie, the preloader for the menu movie, not the menu movie itself.
I made a 'movie' in Premiere and exported as FLV., Its suppose to be a banner on the top of a web page. The site was made with Dreamweaver. When played locally, the banner does great. When I put it on the server, thats a different story. I can tell thats something is there because it loads the background color of the flash file but it doesn't play the FLV.
View 1 RepliesI have an HTML page with buttons. Each button needs to have a getURL to open the Flash site, but then somehow, needs to also load the appropriate swf into that Flash site... My reasoning is because I have some scripts under my site that need to be in HTML (or PHP) for search engines, that way I don't have to do the whole site in HTML.. I hate having a HTML index page, but it's the only solution I could come up with. So, when a visitor selects any of the navigation buttons, I don't want them to have to select that button again, when the Flash site loads. how to do this for Flash 7 / AS 2.0? Or if there are any posts here about it?
