ActionScript 2.0 :: [F8] Nested Movies & TellTarget

In this file are two movies, "display" and "nav slideshow" "nav slideshow" consists of a scrolling toolbar that displays 6 buttons at a time. Clicking on one of these buttons is then supposed to load a frame with the appropriate content in the "display" movie. For the longest time, I couldn't figure out the proper syntax until I came across the Kirupa tutorial on Tell Target & More Tell Target. So I finally got the buttons in "nav slideshow" to load the right content in "display". That was all well and good, but the gallery is designed to load as an external movie into the main website. When I tried this, the code no longer worked. The syntax for the actionscript I have now is:

I created a button in one movie. I nested a second movie that is the same size as the first movie. In the second movie I can successfully hide an object in the first movie with an object in the second movie. However, I can't prevent a button in the first movie from being shown in the second movie.

I understand the idea in which you can load movies into an empty mc holder. However, I would like to be able to load other movies using another empty mc within this empty mc, so for example, on certain pages the nav at the top would stay the same, but the content inside would change. At other times when the user clicks on a button, the whole page would change.

Im making a game in which you controll some gattling AA guns..you start of with one and can later buy more...the gattling gun itself consist of 3 different movie clips and 1 text box (dynamic)WHen you buy more gattling guns later on , i just want to duplicate the original gattlinggun and let you place it anywere on the ground you want...
Firing is all good and dandy, each gun aims at mouse cursor and spews out bullets.. but for added realism ive made it so that each gun Can Jam (short delay befre can fire again)this does not work however because (as far as i can tell) what happens in 1 movie also happens in the others, so if 1 jams(the dynamic text box changes to JAM) all turrets get JAM in them(sticky i know)... now i want to know how do i make each movie completly separate , so they do not inherit properties from eachother...

I have several products I want to animate with graphics and text individualy then stack them on a time line for output with play and pause buttons. Is there a tutorial somwhere that shows you how to do this? and how do I stop the entire animation on a frame, I don't understand "not_set_yet"

I have two swf's called test1.swf and test2.swf.Can I open BOTH swf's in DIFFERENT players (not loading test2.swf in to _layer1 of test1.swf), and click a button in test1.swf to play a mc in test2.swf? or possibly pass variables from test1.swf to test2.swf.

how do you specify the target path using "tellTarget"?Ex. The target movie clip is on the main timeline but the "tellTarget" script is on another. How would I code this? (or should I just use the standard "gotoAndPlay"?)Is tellTarget really even relevant anymore? It seems to me that with the release of FMX 2004, Macromedia advocates using gotoAndPlay more than tellTarget. Why would you use tellTarget when gotoAndPlay does essentially the same thing (or does it?)?

I read Kirupa's article on the telltarget command and have duplicated it in my own project i am working on. but when I click on the button contaion the tell target, I get an error which says:Target not found: Target="/landmenu" Base="_level0"Maybe one of you may know the answer to this.

I have a little problem, I have a scene containing about 30 movieclips (all with a unique instance name!)
I want to call all movieclips at once, on a specific keypress - ex. when I press the key "a", I want to tell one clip to go to frame 2, and all the rest to go to frame 1
I know how to do this the "hard" way, by writing all 30 actions on each key, but I'm looking for an easier way,

I am attempting to apply the tellTarget script (using kirupa's tutorial as a reference) and I get the following output error:
Target not found: Target="/security" Base="_level0"
I named the movieclip "security" (without the ", of course), and applied the appropriate script to my button but I keep getting that error.

I am working on a portfolio in flash which dynamically defines the target of the buttons. When a button is click an external swf is loaded, and the button sends the value of a variable to the loaded swf. So far I got it to work as I want it to, BUT the ouput-panel keeps giving the message:
Target not found: Target="this._parent.project" Base="_level0.button_1"
I am using this code:

tellTarget ("this._parent.project") {
pnumber = a;
}}
The "pnumber" var is used in de project.swf to define a folder. "a" is a var with a numeric value. I know the tellTarget is an old-fashioned way of scripting, but so far it is the only piece of script that actually does what I want it to do (except for the error-message)

Ive just followed the tutorial about creating a full flash site using root. I got that working fine. My problem occurs when i want to use tellTarget in my menu system as well.
The movie looks for the actions contained in the mouse overs of the menu in the main movie. This is the error message i get:

I have an all flash site that i'm making to learn flash MX 2004. I'm loading external swf's into a main page to make it all flow and easy for the browser to chew. i got a page that uses tellTarget to start rollovers and advance a movie. here's the script for one of the buttons...

I have a movieclip in the mainframe that on a button release gets moved to the center of the screen with some set_property stuff and then I want the clip to play. So I added a tell_target on release, the target is /movieclipname and I then Go_To_and_Play the first frame. I have a stop action as the first frame of the movieclip as to keep it from running when I dont want it. I want that tell_target to make the movieclip play but sofar no luck.

I have an intro.swf file that is basically a movie with sound that is exported for actionscript but not exported in the first frame. I just stuck it in a movie on my timeline and it works great and the preloader works because it doesn't load the sound before the preloader. I use :
musicSound = new Sound();
musicSound.attachSound("music");
musicSound.start();
to play the sound in intro.swf.
However, now this intro.swf gets loaded into an index.swf and everything works fine and the sound plays as long as I have the sound included in BOTH the intro.swf and the index.swf and the sound is exported on the first frame in the index.swf. I was hoping I could remove the sound entirely from my index.swf since it already loads into the intro but so far

I have been having trouble creating a movie clip with a reverse rollover effect within a movie which has a reverse rollover effect. that sounds confusing
In essence I wish to create a panel that rolls out on rollover and rolls back in reverse when the you rollout. I have done this using this script

However I wish to make movies within this movie that have the same effect on them. But when I create another movie or button within this movie it is not registering on rollover. I guess because the script on the main movie overrides it?

I am creating a calendar and only one part isnt work. That part is the movie (mc_nav). I have the mc_nav movie on each month's stage. The buttons are named correctly since I used normal modes reference thingy to double check the references. I am trying to have it move to the next frame in the movie, or back, or to the 3rd frame etc. The first section (NAVIGATION BUTTON LINKS) works fine. It is just when I try to navigate on the Scene 1 stage, from a movie within a movie, that the trouble arises. Each of the month movies (mc_sep, mc_oct, etc) have mc_nav placed on them. Then the month movies are placed in Scene 1 on each of their respective frames (mc_sep = 4, mc_oct = 5, etc). When testing the movie and I am sent to any month page, the navigation (mc_nav) wont work. The syntax according to the flash debugger is correct. The action script goes all the way through to the last frame (13) and the stop(); command is set to stop the movie at frame 3 (the splash page).

I have a small FLA file i created myself. its just a simple mp3 player, pause and stop and a volume slider, thats it.I want to import three instances of this into a bigger movie and have them all available to run at the same time.I need them to be all on the screen at one time (same frames) and I need them each to be able to play a different mp3 The user will not be able to decide which mp3, this is all 'hard coded' into the fla file.So how can I do this and get access to each individual movie's controls?
For example when I use the slider on the first player, I only want the volume to change on the first mp3.Would I even have to worry about this in the big file that has all three movies in it?I mean could I just code the volume slider to work right in the mp3 player file and then the bigger movie file will automatically know that when the volume slider is moved, only to affect the voume of the first mp3?if i do it that way, would I have to save out 3 different versions of the mp3 player file. one with '1.mp3', say, hard coded into it, another with '2.mp3' hard coded into it, etc?

I have been creating a gallery for a client that changes preview images in response to thumbnail images being clicked, I have the basics working but now my client wants further interaction in some of the previews that include using buttons on the preview images that either open a web page in a new window or switch between more preview images. The problem is the new buttons that appear are embedded on the initial preview images (which are set as movies), and for some reason the interaction that has been added to these movies is stopped when run in another movie. Sorry if that sounds complicated!

If you look at the gallery here and click on the item titled VIACOM, a window will open On the bottom left hand side of the window you will see 4 thumbnail boxes that switch between the preview images on the right. The second preview image has the numbers 1 to 4 on the bottom of it. These numbers are buttons and are set to switch to more preview images, but sadly it's not working.

I have about 50 QuickTime movies that are different dimensions. I need to export them to be FLV's and I need them to all be the same dimension. I want to put them in a queue so I don't have to do each one manually. Is there a software that I can use to do this?
