I'm just trying to associate a string with a previously declared array but I'm unsure how to do so.In this instance, I'm taking the literal string from a combo box label:
thisString = comboBox.text
Where thisString is an array I've declared before,and I would like to treat it as the array I made before.
I want to be able to validate a string so that it doesn't contain any numbers or special characters like '@!�%^' for instance, how would i go about doing this?
View 3 RepliesI have a comboBox that I need to associate different email addresses with the different selections (the "selections" are the labels of the comboBox - not the data... the data fields for the comboBox are blank). right now, as written it returns "email2" no matter which I pick.

Is it even possible to associate a class file to a movieClip manually placed on the stage without setting up the class linkage in the library? If so, how?
P.S. linking in the library then placing on the stage is not a viable option. Nor is using "addChild" from the library.
I create some movieclips dynamically through a loop and store them into an array. I add an event listener to all those movieclips. In the function to which I direct the listener I want to be able to get the loop variable value associated with each movieclip. For example if you click the movieclip that was created the first time the loop ran then you would get the value 0.
Hope I have explained myself well enough. Is it necessary to create a custom event class for this?

Basically, I have two arrays, each with 10 values (in slots 0-9 of the arrays). So I need to see if an array has a specified value in it, but then I have to see if the other array has a certain value in it, in the same spot as the first instance of what I search for in the first array.

Creating a dynamic list and associating a picture with each list item. i need the list to be scrollable, and i want the list and it's associated picture to be displayed randomly when the application is re-launched. i.e it doesnt show the same list everytime.

"in" only works against the index with Arrays in AS3 (which is totally retardo if you ask me), though it does work with ojects, but we're not talking about objects.improve (reduce) on this code I'm using now? I'm hoping to avoid defining a utility function - I'd like a nice elegant one-liner.

Since 0 == false we can use it in a test. Do note that testString's scope is defined in the containing function, encapsulated by the closure.
