the code below loads only the second member of the "koan" array. why it isn't randomly loading swfs? (Could it be a problem with the "var index"?...when it is changed manually in the code from 0 to another number the swf played does change; but still not randomly.)

I'm working on a card game that will allow users to flip the cards and drag them. I have those two functions worked out, but now I am trying to randomize the order of the deck when I load the swf using an array. I know a lot has been said about this issue on here, and I adapted some code that I found. I'm not getting error messages, but it doesn't seem to be shuffling my deck either. Am I missing something? I just have three cards at the moment (figured I'd keep it simple until I get everything worked out!). Below is the code for MemoryGame.as, my document class. The shuffle function is near the bottom.

i used the Fader class to build a fade in-out slideshow and wanted to make it shuffle. While the slideshow works fine by its own, i just can�t figure the way to make it switch the images randomly. Here�s the code:

Is it possible to put variables in an array?

When the above code is executed, the values "Stage.width / 2" and "Stage.height / 2" are replaced with the number values and the array becomes, for example [500, 400].And when I call the array positions[0], instead of getting the value of the Stage.width / 2 (considering the stage has been resized), I get the static value of 500.What can I do to get the value of Stage.width / 2 ?
Right now, I have a gallery with many different thumbnails each individual movie clip symbols and not button symbols and each movie clip has a rollover and rollout function assigned to them which are all basically the same for each thumbnail.
Following is an example from a small section of the gallery thumbnails.

The above shows two groups of thumbnails grouped into individual movie clips (web01, web02, web03) each movie clip containing 3 thumbnails (btn04, sub04_1, sub04_2). I had done it this way for grouping and ease of animation.
I was wondering if it was possible to create just one function which executes the rollover and rollout functions so the script window would not be filled with so much repeated script.

View 12 RepliesI've been designing this interface for my site. It contains a mini-tv thing in the corner that plays external flash movies selected at random from a list and loaded into an empty MC ("external_screen") with "loadMovie". the code is as follows

where "technical_fault" and "skag" are external swf files How do I make it so that when a movie finishes, the previous code is run again and a new movie is selected?
I'm pretty sure this is a common requirement but a bit of googling hasn't provided me with a satisfactory answer so far.Basically, I need to shuffle a 2d array of Points (co-ordinates) so that they are still the same co-ordinates, but stored in a different order.

I created a flash movie. All of the pictures fade in and out perfect. There is a button on each of the pictures and these buttons take you to the picture�s respective page. When I test the movie the buttons work fine. When I export the movie as (.swf) and try it again the buttons work. I am hosting it on a GoDaddy domain that has been purchased and am referencing it on another site that I own. When I embed it onto my website, the movie plays fine but the buttons are not functional. Here are the things that I have tried to rectify the problem:
- Tried exporting and publishing to Flash Player 7 and 6 DID NOT WORK
- Instead of:
on (release) {
getURL(http:// . . ._self)
}
I created a new layer and gave the button an instance name and used it as an action layer:
MyButton.onRelease = function() {
getURL(www . . . ., _self)
}
DID NOT WORK
My inquiry is, if I have a MovieClip with an animation, and I need to play this MovieClip by button, I know I need to use this action // on (rollOver) // telltarget() // play()
but if I want to rollout before the animation reach the last frame, for example the frames are 90 and I decided to rollout in 50.
How I can make the frames go backward to frame 0 after I rollout of the button ??

i'm have a MC that is a nav bar with nested buttons. The buttons themselves are calling on a dynamic text field on my main timeline but I'm unable to have any code from the nested buttons to WORK. I'll include my FLA so you can see what i'm trying to do. I
in jist.have a MC that is a nav bar. It houses buttons. The buttons inside the MC do not respond to code ony the _root timeline or code defined specifically to them. What I am trying to achieve is the nested buttons calling on my dynamic text field and loading outside .txt files.I manipulate the buttons on the main timeline and get the effects i'm looking for but not inside of the MC.
I created a multidimensional array and I am having a hard time using .push to start another line. I have tried many thing however this is where I am at right now:

As you can see the last trace (arrayName[1][0]) comes back undefined. How do I add the [1][0] level of the array?

I was wondering if I have an array that is made up of strings. The array is updated with new strings as the user drags and drops objects. Is there a way that I can have the array of strings appear continuously on the stage as feedback?

I'm just trying to associate a string with a previously declared array but I'm unsure how to do so.In this instance, I'm taking the literal string from a combo box label:

Basically i've got a timer which records how long a user remains in either section A,B or C on my site. Each time the user switches from say A to C, the time spent in the section A is recorded into Array A and so forth. What i'm having difficulty with is adding each of the elements within the array together..... Top bits are just the button functions....bit in bold is what i would THINK would be the correct way to add the elements together - with a for loop....

detailed as possible. Took basic Flash classes, but no AS other than searching online, taking a couple Kirupa tutorials, so it's all greek tho recognizably so. I have 10 individual "scenes" currently in one swf file, but would love to break these apart individually, and load each into a "container" swf with a "random" code (so each visit to my site starts differently) which I've located and tested with Kirupa's super "Loading random movies" tutorial. Question is: currently I have active buttons in each scene which advance playhead to the next scene. How can I code these to load another swf into the main "container" file and kill/replace the current swf?
Another tutorial "Transitions between external swfs" suggests "if your buttons are not located on the main timeline, you will have to change the path to the container movieclip" - but doesn't show exactly how to do this, and I have to say I can't figure the "path" out! Another issue I foresee is that I'll need the script to automatically pull in the next swf file when the current one finishes, if the visitor doesn't click the button first... Haven't been able to find this with a few hours searching, though some threads come close.
I have an array of images and an input text box. I want to type something in the text box which will be different for each picture. For example the first picture may be an apple and the correct answer will be apple and so on. How do I check to see if the input is correct against the picture that is shown?

Basically, I have two arrays, each with 10 values (in slots 0-9 of the arrays). So I need to see if an array has a specified value in it, but then I have to see if the other array has a certain value in it, in the same spot as the first instance of what I search for in the first array.

Here's the catch: another variable (for instance) called "three" is loaded. I want to look up "three" in my_Array and retrieve the index-number (should be 2 of course). How can I accomplish that?
im learning as3 and am trying to understand arrays so could an array be used in this situation i have 5 buttons which all need a ROLL_OVER, ROLL_OUT and CLICK mouse event is it easier to put all the buttons in an array and then use the array identifier to add the even listeners? or is there another way to do this? p.s if anyone can give me a few basic usages of arrays that you use in your experience. where to use arrays too
View 5 RepliesI am trying to use two buttons in an array that use the same information in that array, so I'm trying to lump them together so I don't have to write them separately. This is what I've come up with, which doesn't work. One of the buttons works, but the other one doesn't:

I'm trying to create a movie clip with images that will slide from one image to another using next and previous buttons. I want a sliding effect. For example on this site: [URL] The right side large image you can slide the image by using the arrows. That's exactly what I want...but in flash.

I'm trying to build a shuffle function that somebody gave me into my card game. I two external .as classes; one is Shuffle.as, which is my document class, and the other is card.as. I'm building the shuffling function into Shuffle.as. I think I'm getting close to making it work, but there are some problems.
