ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash8] Game Score (A Simple Timer) Not Working?
Mar 28, 2011
I'm following a tutorial to make a simple game. The aim of the game is for a player to evade a flying enemy ; the higher the score, the faster the enemy. The main elements in the game are the enemy the player and a score card.However, from following the tutorial, and adding the dynamic text field etc....the score doesn't actually work.This is the code that I was instructed to place on the first frame of the Scripts layer:
//Game Variables
enemySpeed = 5; //Set Enemy initial speed
numberEnemy = 4; //Change this to add more Enemies
score = 0; //Set initial score to 0
[code].....

Non-programmer here, struggling with having to now (finally) work in AS3.I've looked around, but can't find something similar (or as simple) as my old AS2 scoring - hitTest method was.Problem 1: my converted AS3 game does not hitTest or score.[code]I have a Dynamic text box on the stage named "scorecounter" which is now displaying "0" when the game plays. This is correct.When the gun (mouse) is clicked, we then tell the "hittest1" MC to play, which will detect hits. All Correct.[code]The hittest1 MC plays, and checks if the "cursor" MC was touching the "bug1", and tells it to animate (splat) All bug detections are listed in the hitTest frame - "bug1" through "bug30", ie. the code below x 30. This Fails - maybe because the hitTest MC lists all 30, and not all bugs are visibile at once, some are hidden until required later in the game?[code]Then on the last frame of the "bug1" MC (frame 10), it tells the score to add one. Also Fails - maybe because of errors above, nothing is being processed now.[code]

I've got two textboxes txt7 and txt9. First shows percentage right (working) and second is conditional if less than 70% shows "should repeat this" (working) but if 100% the "well done" doesn't show.
txt7var = Math.round((new_score/4)*100); // convert score to percentage
txt9var = "";
this.onEnterFrame = function() {
if (this._currentframe == 'score') {

I'm just trying to store a simple cookie that will remember the score for the next time the user plays the game (the score governs if an option is visible or not)It all works fine until I close browser/reload the page, at which point the shared object seems to disappear, any clues?
Write:
Code:
var rem_score:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("score");
rem_score.data.score = new Number(score);
rem_score.flush();
The problem prolly lies in my write code but ill post the reading aswell just incase there is a problem with that too
Code:
var rem_score:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("score");
if (rem_score.data.score != undefined) {
this.remdscore = rem_score.data.score;
if (rem_score.data.score >=30) {
[code]...
There is another point it is read but it is the same sort of thing as the above.

I just want to create a simple timer for a car game which notes the lap time each time you cross the finish line. I then want to be able to use the "gotoAndPlay (frame number)" once either a certain amount of laps have been completed or when the timer hits a specified number.I have exhausted tutorials, none of which actually work - what im looking for is 'i think' actually quite simple but i am having great difficulty.... The car game tutorial with 4 parts which seems to pop up everywhere does not help as it is very complex and can only be used when the game is designed in the way that the guys has made it.

I have a simple getURL button within a movieclip within another movieclip. Does anyone have any clue why this isn't working? The button is in the top layer of the child movieclip, and the child movieclip is in the top layer of the parent movieclip, so what am I missing here? I attached a simplified fla to show the issue. In the end, the main red box will be a country on a map and the popup box will contain info about the country and links to pictures and sites.

I have a game which was built in AS2, I am trying to make a countdown timer so the game starts without the start button.
This is what currently prompts the game to start after "plat_btn" is pressed
play_btn.onRelease = function ()
{
_root.menu.customItems[0].visible = _root.menu.customItems[1].visible = _root.menu.customItems[2].visible = true;

I'm new with flash and I'm having some trouble with my script. The idea is to start the game by pressing the start button, and the countdown starts. The start button will then disappear. In 60 seconds, the idea is to try to drag all the garbage objects into the respective recycling bins. Only 1 try per object.The object will return to it's original position if it's been placed wrongly, mouseevent for that object is then disabled.
After 60 seconds, the game will end and all mouseevents are disabled. The start button reappears and I can restart the game again.

Is there a way to get this code to work? It's meant to count the seconds passed while playing the game and gives a bonus multiplier to the current score when the game ends. I don't know how to get the returned value to combine it into the multiplier int variable. Is there any way to get this code to work or is it completely wrong?

I need some urgent help with my high score table. My scoreboard was based of a tutorial that I found using php and flash to create a scoreboard. When I use the scoreboard in flash (using ctrl + enter) the scoreboard runs fine... It uploads the new name and score and reads the scores from the board then loads them to flash. But the problem is as soon as I try to use the created "*.SWF" file, it acts as if nothing is meant to happen... I click on the button to upload and reload the scores and nothing happens at all.
I loaded the file onto the same FTP site i'm hosting the scores and the PHP file and the scoreboard once again worked fine. Upon trying to post it anywhere else, the scoreboard won't work.
I have the local playback security setting set to "Access network only".

stop();
//adds a new array

Working on a simple score counter for my young son -- the idea is to simply add or subtract 1 digit to reveal the score. The variables only need to be 0-9 in each column. Can someone advise on how to make this work correctly? The animation was developed using a root.xxxx +1 or -1. It does the trick but as you can see, it keeps going into the double digits in each column.
He personally does not care about the code glitch -- but his perfectionist Dad does [URL]...

I'm designing in AS2 - because for some reason, i thought this tutorial was made for AS2 - is this AS3 code and is that the problem??The Problem. The game runs fine, but the score keepers (both for hit and missed balloons) only show the numbers 1 and 5. so if i pop one balloon, it says 1. then for a score of 2, 3, and 4, it is blank. until i pop that 5th balloon, then it says 5, then back to blank for a score of 6.Even stranger (to me) is that the game has a count-down timer that counts backwards from 60. it also only shows then the time has a 1 or a 5 in it. same as the scores.

I have a simple shooting game set up. 25 monsters appear on the screen, one after another, until no monsters are left. If you hit one before it disappears, the score increases. If you don't, the score stays the same.
In the actions frame, I placed an empty dynamic text box named score, and set it equal to 0 (declared in the main actions frame). But, seeing as though the monster actions are coded into the library item itself, do I have to declare score, and the score increase there instead?

I have a question which I think should be fairly simple but my AS knowledge is rather poor so i'm wondering if someone could help me out or point me in a direction to find out how to do this...
I'm playing around with a game, (skinned it and slightly modded it) and at the end I want the player to be able to enter his email and hit a "submit" button and have his score emailed to me? Is this simple?

I need to create a score board for a game show at work for staff. The score board must keep score on the left and right parts of the screen. score must start as default on 0. Then every time I press for example the left arrow key the left score must increase by the value of 1 and when I press the right arrow key the left score must decrease by 1.Same goes for the right score only with differant keys example up and down keys. This sounds very simple and I managed to get it to work when I tested with only 1 score, but failed when adding the second score to the picture.

I am having a problem getting Flash to work with PHP as I need Flash to read and write to a text file on a server to store simple name/score data for a games hi score table. I can read from the text file into Flash easily enough but also need to write to the file when a new high score is reached, so I need to use PHP to do that. I can send the data from flash to the php file via POST but so far it is not working. The PHP file is confirmed as working as I added an echo to the file which displayed a message so I could check that the server was running PHP - the files were also uploaded to a remote server so I could test them properly. Flash code is as follows:
//php filewriter
var myLV = new LoadVars();
function sendData() {
//sets up variable 'hsdata' to send to php
myLV.hsdata = myText;
myLV.send("hiscores.php");
}
I believe this sends the variable 'myText' to the php file as a variable called 'hsdata' which I want the php file to write into a text file. The mytext variable is just a long string that has all the scores and names in the hiscore. OK, XML would be better way of doing this but for speed I just want to get basic functionality working, so storing a simple text sting is adequate for now. The PHP code that reads the Flash 'hsdata' variable and writes it to the text file 'scores.txt' follows:

I want to create a simple high score list of 10 high scores of a game. From reading the forums I seem to get the idea that flash cannot create a simple text file. I don't have php or asp but do have cgi capability. Does anyone know where I can find a simple cgi-script that will allow me to write the text the cgi receives to a simple text file: game.sco I want to be able to write a single long string to it so that I create a string of values and can load it back in using flash loadvariables. I can create the string in flash... but how do I write it to a text file using a cgi script? the text file would include this string...I already know how to read it and split it to parse it into arrays:

I am creating a blackjack game and almost have it all figured out besides the scoreboard. When I win the game it adds the 25 points and when I loose it subtracts the 25 points from the starting score = 200. The problem is that if you win multiple times in a row or lose multiple times in a row the score doesn't keep adding up. It only adds or subtracts the score once. I tried using a boolean code but can't get it to work right. Now I am using this set up.
