ActionScript 2.0 :: Get Color From Bitmap?
Mar 3, 2006I want the user to be able to click a picture and the background of the swf will change to the color of the pixel where the user clicked.
View 2 RepliesI want the user to be able to click a picture and the background of the swf will change to the color of the pixel where the user clicked.
View 2 RepliesI am working on a project that involves custom vinyl lettering. I have the a swf that loads images to an image scroller which can then be drug onto a stage and scaled or rotated. What I need to know is if and how I can change their color using the color picker component.
View 23 RepliesApparently, in order to make a bitmap transparent, one has to convert it to 256 colors from 24. I'm not sure if Flash puts it in 24 or 256, but because I can't create a transparency when using Bitmap() in my code, and from what I see displayed on the screen, it would appear that it uses 24 colors. Perhaps this is to keep things light. Nonetheless, is it possible to convert it to 256 colors?
View 1 RepliesI'm looking for a way to get all of the black pixels from an image that I load in. This is in order to make all of those black pixels transparent.
View 4 RepliesI have a collection of patterns which are in JPG format. I'm building a tool where I'd like to be able to "colorize" per say the patterns when a certain event occurs.
What is the best way to do this transformation?
How can i convert a color bitmap to grayscale using as3?
View 1 RepliesI am having a bit of a problem where I have a function that takes a ColorPickerEvent. I am trying to colorTransform a "loaded bitmap" of a movieclip to the selected color but For some reason it is not setting[code]...
View 1 RepliesI've been messing around a bit with some low-level bitmap manipulation and having been creating some various color matrices to apply to bitmap data to add "filters" (for lack of a better term).I have seen a number of tutorials online in C# and AS3 about applying various color matrices to bitmaps, but was curious if anyone simply had a collection of these color matrices that map to specific filter styles (black and white, sepia, etc.).
View 1 RepliesI would like to extract the most common color of a bitmap. My first idea was to do this by looping through the bitmapData and extracting every pixel color and storing it in an array. But the function has to be as light as possible so my question is; Is there a more lightweight approach to achieve this? The function is used to extract background color of a Bitmap.
View 4 RepliesI have a PNG that is a child of sprite object. The PNG consists of a shape in the middle of a transparent background (the alpha value is zero). I want to change the color of the sprite, but I do not want to change the transparent background.
View 2 RepliesI want to find a script that compares colors in a given region and gets the closest websafe color.I found the color sampler class that returns the average color. So now I just need to learn how to get the closest websafe color to the average color. how to compare color values and get the difference?
View 0 RepliesThis may be stunningly simple (It certainly was in Director), but I just can't work it out in flash. I basically want any pixels of a certain color on an imported 24Bit (no alpha) Bitmap to appear transparent using AS3 (like a simple color mask, any black pixels are not drawn). threshold() only seems to work correctly on 32Bit BitmapData with alpha channel so the only way I've found so far is this craziness..

In Photoshop there is a tool that lets you adjust the levels of an image. I'd like to be able to do the same thing. I've seen examples online that show the levels but they are for each individual color channel (red, green, blue or alpha or CMYK) but not a combined view like in Photoshop Input Levels (see below).Also, as a bonus is there a way to find the best shadow and highlight input level settings, basically the settings the Auto level button determines?Update:I think I'm closer but I'm not sure. Here is the method I pieced together. The first image is my results and the second is Photoshop results both analyzing the Google logo:Update 2:Ok I think I got it. The code is below. It's mostly working all the time, mostly. Additional credits:Photoshops results:

I'm building a game that will be using a bitmap to render the environmental scene. the bitmap is a black image with little green squares to indicate x,y place holders for tree locations as i render the scene. i was thinking of looping thru each pixel to find green pixels but this proves to be a performance hit when the image is 2500x2500. then i found what i thought was a handy little method called BitmapData.getColorBoundsRect() that will locate the position of the green box. It does this but it returns me 1 rectangle of all the green boxes inside.
View 2 RepliesI have a bitmap with many colors on it. When the user clicks each color needs to trigger a different method. However, I have no idea how to check the color value of the selected bitmap. I can create a new sprite and check the value of that fine through bitmapdata.getpixel() but when I need to actually check the actual bitmap I cannot get it to work.
View 2 RepliesI am using the following code for creating color areas (similiar to that of a user controlled coloring book):

Instead of using the RGB mode, I'd like to use Bitmap fills.
i have found a beautiful water effect made in as3. The effect is available to download on the website below.I am trying to change the fill of the water (that is blue or any color that you pick).The original code fills the water like this:
Code:
public function renderWater():void {
shape.grapics.clear();
shape.graphics.beginFill(0x006699);
shape.graphics.lineStyle(0, 0x000000, 0);
[code].....
I tried to follow the instructions on the beginBitmapFill help, but i am receiving the water with no fill.

I need a Bitmap to make a color map inside certain symbols. What I do is import the png file and export it to as3. After that I drag and drop it inside the Symbols that need it in the correct position. What I need to know is how to get a Bitmap child inside a symbol that belongs to a class if I can't set the instance name of that Bitmap. for ex: a Symbol of the class MyClass has an img exported as Class MyBitmapClass and Base Class flash.display.BitmapData. I want, through as3, to get this MyBitmapClass object.
View 1 Repliesi have a button, with instance name lightblue_color. I am assigning a color to its color field like this: lightblue_color.transform.colorTransform.color = 0x65ffff; then i am adding an eventlistener to the button like this: lightblue_color.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, ChangeColor); Then, in the function: public function ChangeColor(evnt:MouseEvent):void {trace(evnt.target.transform.colorTransform.color);} It prints 0. Why is that? Shouldn't it print 0x65ffff or do i need to do some type conversions?
View 2 RepliesI'm cutting my teeth in actionscript 3 on a game that has a character running through a world. So, I have set up my Hit Testing by using the bitmap data hit test method, since I figured my world is going to be destructible - it'd be nice to update the level and then redraw it and have the character interact with the new change. (That works beautifully) I am however; a bit confused as to how I have my hit Testing set up. I've been messing around with it, and it works for now - but I'm not sure why.. currently, I have a character set up by using a class I built and using a series of animations I created. So, this character has a walking and falling animation, etc. This is a movie clip.
Then there's a bitmap 'emptyBitmap' with bitmap data created - however; I never really added this as a child to the character. This is sized to the dimensions of my character. My level is created as a movielip, then it's drawn to a bitmap - when the level movieclip is changed, the bitmap redraws, and that's how this updates.
[Code]....
I know the topic of "duplicating" movieclips is a hot issue with the new virtual machine. Luckily, I understand the implications. I only am [currently] interested in duplicating a Bitmap. See, I load an image from an URL using 'flash.display.Loader.load', which is a non-blocking operation in Flash Player.However,I may use multiple copies of the loaded image (which is reported to be a Bitmap, naturally) in the display list at the same time.Hence, I naturally do not want to load the image from an URL every time, because I don't want to wait for a non-blocking call to complete. Nor do I need to - I mean one copy is already loaded, so it should be possible to just "duplicate" it, right?
My idea is to do use the bitmapData property of a Bitmap and pass it to the constructor of a new Bitmap object. I have not tried the following in action, but I want to hear whether any of you did and if the following would not work, what would:
Code:
var original_bitmap: Bitmap;
var copy_of_original_bitmap: Bitmap = new Bitmap(original_bitmap.bitmapData);
LiveDocs mention that the BitmapData being passed to a Bitmap constructor is "being referenced", which to me might suggest it cannot be used twice? There is also the BitmapData::clone() method, which I am not sure is applicable here or not.I know this is a lot of talk instead of just trying this out, but I test so much Flash Player code daily just to see "what works" (which should be documented instead by Adobe),
If I have a BitmapData that's already been drawn onto a Sprite. Is there a way to redraw the BitmapData onto a Sprites Graphics object without having to invoke beginBitmapFill and passing in the same BitmapData?
View 1 RepliesI'm working on a game, and to keep performance good, instead of addChild'ing 50 new sprites to the stage every second, I decided to have each player draw to their own bitmap, and then to the 'master' bitmap. This introduces an issue though: the second player would override all data the first player has put into to bitmap...My basic debugging proof of concept:
Code:
// bitmap test
import flash.display.Bitmap;
import flash.display.Bitmap;[code]......
I have a bitmap which has several frames (packed along the horizontal axis). In order to render them I copy it to the backbuffer (larger bitmap) as follows:
Actionscript Code:
public override function copyToBackBuffer(db:BitmapData):void{ if (active) var drawRect:Rectangle = new Rectangle((currentFrame-1) * frameWidth, 0, frameWidth,

In pure AS3, I have a pixelbender and a large bitmap. The pixelbender is configurable with a distance parameter to affect only a small area of the bitmap. The problem is that the pixelbender is executing over the whole bitmap. What would be the best way to update only the effected region of the bitmap? Given this config:

Is there a way to write a bitmap font right into the bitmap being desplayed? Mabey better worded: myBitmap.draw(image, t) draws a picture is there a way to draw text? I'm stuck even if its just a work around in some way I would like to know... (the current work around i have in my head is writing it in a movieclip turning that into bitmap data and drawing it... esentially creating a prototype answering my question... but a built in way would be easier probably).
View 2 RepliesIn AS3, I am loading a png from a zip file (nochump's zip library through ByteArray to Loader). The png can be up to 45k pixels wide but only 120 tall. This creates a problem in flash, as images can only be ~8000 pixels wide. A possible solution would be to split the images into 6 columns somehow. This would probably need to be done in the ByteArray state, because the limitation is in Bitmap and Loader.
View 2 RepliesI'm using Sandy to animate some objects in 3D. What I currently do to images which are EXPORTED in the library, I want to do to some bitmaps that I create using the DRAW technique. But it wont work :-(
CODE FOR 'CREATED BITMAP' :
ActionScript Code:
var bData:BitmapData = new BitmapData(myObject.width,myObject.height);
bData.draw(mask5);
[Code]....
Sandy doesn't seem to treat the 'created' bitmap the same as those that are exported from the library.
Letīs say I have a bitmap with 3 colors: red, green and blue (not mixed)
What if I wanted to make a bitmap of the red part of the first bitmap?
Iīd like to take the red pixels from first bitmap (and its positions), and make another bitmap.
I haven't worked very much with bitmap manipulation and I need to create an app that can find a bitmap (or a pattern of pixels really) in another bitmap.Are there other methods of doing it besides iterating through the pixels and using getPixel()?I'm of course looking for the most effective solution.
