function mcRotation(event:Event):void{
var controller:Number = (stage.mouseX - stage.stageWidth * 0.5) * -1;

box_mc.rotationY = rotY;
oldvalue = box_mc.rotationY;

ActionScript 2.0 :: SetInterval - MC To Rotate With Random Speed

Feb 15, 2008

I have drawn a circle with rays on the stage and made it a movie clip in Flash MX. I can make the MC rotate by creating a function. However, when I call the function in a setInterval, I want the MC to rotate with random speed. I did it this way but to no avail: setInterval(rotateme, random(2000)); I want the MC rotation to randomly speed up down to zero and slow down to 2000.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Xml Object Vs Regular Object Speed

Nov 27, 2011

Im writing a app that stores run time values in an object and uses them (instead of i.e. an array). The defaults I load in from an XML file. XML itself beeing an object; could i just use the XML object to keep the current values or is this a 'slow' object compared to as3.0 internal objects. Speed is of the essence since it is supposed to become a game. The internal object isnt as fast as normal array access but so far its working fast enough.

Loading in the XML into a new (but totally similar object) seems silly. If it operates on the same prinicple/speed i could rewrite it and really clean up and simplify the code. Noy wanting to try it if its gonna be slower.

Flash - Slowly Rotate An Object Towards Another Object?

Jan 27, 2010

I have an object that points in the direction of another object (i.e. it rotates to the direction that the second objects x and y coordinates are at) below is the code I use.

var distx = target.x - x;
var disty = target.y - y;
var angle:Number = Math.atan2(disty, distx);

[code]....

as you can see. Not only does it rotate towards the target object, but it also moves towards it too. When I play the movie, the object instantly points to the targeted object and moves towards it. I would like for it to slowly turn towards the object instead of instantly turning towards it.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Rotate Object With It?

Oct 6, 2010

I am working on a car game in flash where you see the car from a top view and you go straight ahead all the time on an endless road.

The game so far is built in the way that I have a image of a car that's the main car and the road is a image itself that keep switching with another image of the road and when you play it it looks like the car is moving very fast. But actually the car is not moving at all except for when you move it yourself by going right or left.

When turning right I do not want the car to simply move to the right, but I also want it to rotate a bit so it looks more realistic when turning.[code]...

ActionScript 2.0 :: How To Rotate An Object

Nov 7, 2002

I have a project I'm working on that requires a box to be rotated aropund an offset axis by dragging a button in one corner of the box. Most of the scripting for this works great, but there are a few things I can't work out. The box is limited to an up and down position (0 degrees and 90 degrees respectively). This is what I want to happen when the user drags the box from the up position and releases somewhere between 10 and 80 degrees, the box continues down to the end down position on its own. If it begins on the down position and is released midway, it continues up. For some mathematical reason, my version likes to orient around 50 degrees.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Array Vs Object Speed?

Feb 3, 2009

I have a little utility takes lists of letters, combines them in every possible permutations, and lists out all the combinations that are words. For example, I would feed it in "cde,abc,tbrn" and it would let me know that cat, cab, car, can, dab, eat, ear, and ebb are all valid words.I've tried two different approaches: Load a dictionary text file, and splice it into dict:Array. For each possible letter combination run:

if(dict.indexOf(testWord)!=-1) trace(testWord);
The other option is to convert dict:Array into an dictionary:Object
for (i=0; i<dict.length; i++){dictionary[(dict[i])] = dict[i];}

and then run:
if(dictionary[testWord]) trace(testWord);

Although I've read arrays are faster than objects, testing to see if the word exists in an object, and iterating 10s to 100s of times over a several thousand word dictionary is orders of magnitude faster than checking to see if the word exists in the dict:Array.

Rotate Object Around Center Axis?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm using CS3 with ActionScript 3.0. What I want is simple, and I've done some searching but nothing that can get me the right results.I'm going to post a link that does exactly what I want: http:[url]......This rotates the circular object around a center point in a way that you can distort the object yet is still remains turning in a circular motion. A simple motion tween rotating the image will only work if the object is perfectly round, so distorting the object to make it more straight or curved won't work with a simple tween. I want to do exactly what is happening here (with my own object), is there some AS3 behind the scenes here making this turn on a center point?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Code To Rotate An Object?

Feb 21, 2012

I have an object that I want to rotate in 3D (letter "Y"). I have some code that I gathered and edited a bit, but right now it rotates at the top left as it's anchor. I'm trying to get it to rotate at the "crux" of the Y (absolute center), so it basically rotates in place.

My second problem is the speed. Ideally it needs to rotate very fast then slow down and stop. Any thoughts on how to either clean up this code to make it work? I could try it with just transforming the shape, but I'm trying to see if it can be cleaner with Actionscript.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Constant Speed Movement Of Object?

Apr 20, 2009

I am trying to get an object to track my mouse on press and i am using a tween. However, the nature of the tween is such that the time taken for the object would move would always be constant despite the distance.

I would like to make the object travel at a constant speed regardless of the distance. Is it correct for me to use a tween? If not what should I be using?The code for my tween is as follows.

map_mc.tracker_mc._x = map_mc._xmouse;map_mc.tracker_mc._y = map_mc._ymouse;startx = map_mc.crosshair_mc._x;endx = map_mc.tracker_mc._x;starty = map_mc.crosshair_mc._y;endy = map_mc.tracker_mc._y;
trackTweenx = new Tween(map_mc.crosshair_mc, "_x", Regular.easeIn, startx, endx, spd, true);trackTweeny = new Tween(map_mc.crosshair_mc, "_y", Regular.easeIn, starty, endy, spd, true);

map_mc.tracker_mc is the mouse cursor that would appear when onPress while the map_mc.crosshair_mc is the object that would track my cursor's movements.

Actionscript 3.0 :: ScaleSpeed Or Speed Of A Movieclip Object

If I create a MovieClip object, and want it to move with some speed, what should I do?I have read a tutorial which was using "xspeed" and "scaleSpeed" to make the small MovieClip moved, but it seemed that this didn't work in my code.such as Code: Select all rectangle.xspeed = Math.random() * 10 - 5; rectangle.yspeed = Math.random() * 10 - 5; rectangle.scaleSpeed = Math.random() * 0.05; and rectangle is an instance of MovieClip.I wonder if that kind of speed properties isn't in as3, or I made some mistakes.

Professional :: Drag Drop And Rotate Object?

Feb 6, 2010

Would like to develop simple (in browser) puzzle games where shapes (such as a puzzle piece shape) can be simultaneously dragged and rotated, then dropped on the screen or canvas. The game mode would be to click and drag the shape or object, while simultaneously rotating the piece using arrow keys  Is this possible in Flash? This simple general activity of simultaneous drag and rotate, then drop, is my intended overallweb site game basis. I'm new to Flash but have developed Windows executables for many years. I'm trying to decide whether to purchase and learn Flash as platform for interactive educational puzzle games running in browser windows.
