I'm making a level editor for a game, but this question doesn't have to be game related so I decided to post it here. I'm using Actionscript 2.0 (Flash 8) I'm trying to implement the flood fill algorithm so that I can paint tiles just like the paint bucket in mspaint. The level consist of a BitmapData object which is 2880px in width and 2176px in height.

I am working on a simple drawing application, and i need an algorithm to make flood fills.The user workflow will look like this (similar to Flash CS, just more simpler):the user draws straight lines on the workspace. These are treated as vectors, and can be selected and moved after they are drawn.user selects the fill tool, and clicks on the drawing area. If the area is surrounded by lines in every direction a fill is applied to the area.if the lines are moved after the fill is applied, the area of fill is changed accordingly.Anyone has a nice idea, how to implement such algorithm? Flex :: Fill Parent In Adobe / MXML - Implementing Layout?

I am attempting to implement a layout in Adobe Flex 4.5 / MXML where I have multiple controls in an HBox that - in total - consume all available horizontal screen estate. Some use a relative with (percentage), some an absolute width (pixels) and one is supposed to consume whatever space is still left, such as:

How would I achieve this in Flex (is there something comparable to Android's
layout_width="fillparent")?
Due to the fact that there are elements that have an absolute width I cannot easily calculate the width of the filler as a percentage a priori (as it varies with the screen width). Setting the filler's width to 100% also does not work as this will shrink the 35% area below 35%. Applying the updateDisplayList suggestion from www.Flextras.com's answer below yields the error "Call to a possibly undefined method updateDisplayList" at the line marked in the source excerpt below:

I am new to flash, trying to do some animation character. I have 2 queries

1. What is lock fill; whenever I am trying to fill a color, it shows lock fill....

2. If I am creating a non regular figure like say with pencil, if I draw some part of it & do other part by later; these will be assumed different objects & I am not able to fill the whole figure with a selected color.

I have a scratch card. Basically I'm masking a movie clip with an empty shape. I can draw on that mask and thus my movieclip will become visible. I have also attached the fla.

Now what I would like to achieve is that when you fill a percentage of that mask, let's say 70%, I automatically fill the whole layer so that all of my movieclip becomes visible (as mask is fully filled).

I think I have the recursion working properly, but I'm not able to get the originally requested item's property set to the right value.The goal here is to find the topmost parent (or "ancestor," depth = 0) of the nested item (a taxonomy based on Dictionary "parent" attributes), and assign that originally requested nested item's "ancestor" property accordingly.For instance, in

Apples
- Red
- - Empire
- - - Fresh

"Fresh"'s ancestor should be set to "Apples." While I'm attempting this on an "on-demand" and individual basis, I'm open to a solution that tags all children that are related to the same ancestor in one fell swoop or for statement, since that would probably be more efficient.

I am making a SUDOKU generator(ActionScript2.0), which would (for now) generate the full and correct sudoku table. To do that I need to use recursive functions for calculating all the possible values. The problem is that when I try to run my program I get this error :

256 levels of recursion were exceeded in one action list.

This is probably an infinite loop.

Further execution of actions has been disabled in this movie.Is it possible to somehow work around this limitation?

And it's standard recursion. SWF either breaks or loops as many times as I tell it. One f calls the other, which calls first... I do not want that.

I want f1 to do some stuff, calls f1 and closes itself. Than f2 works, calls f1 and closes. And so on.

Like having 2 sets of code that loops through.
What's the cleanest way to do that?

I have this function to find occurences of misstyped varaible names (with wrong lower / upper case). I have a movieclip called "debug" where I define and call this funciton ("getCase(_level0)"). But It never finds my testttt variable - If I put the test varaible in _level0 the variable is found.

I have a menu of 4 buttons and I'm trying to not be redundant and recursively use the same over, out, clicked function for each button by passing it's instance through the event handler.

While recursive scans are commonly use to scan through nested objects / data. It can go on an infinite loop, if some of the objects references one another. So what is the most effective way to scan all items, without crashing the computer, nor skipping a specified parameter?

Here is an example of a recursive scanner...

The objects will trigger scans for one another in an eternal loop.

I do believe in C/C++ : Each scanFunction call, will be added into a list consisting of scanned 'memory address', thus preventing a repeat. Is this even possible in AS3? Is there a more elegent way?

I have a Flex component that is a view of a data Object that recursively has a reference to itself.

For example if you had an Employee class that references a boss field of type Person, I'd like to nest the same view for that Boss. This shouldn't be an infinite recursive relationship (e.g. I'd only be viewing the boss field of each object).

I've tried creating an MXML component that references itself but when I run it locks up (seems like it gets into a recursive loop).

Is there anything you can do like includeInLayout conditions that will make sure it doesn't even instantiate that component.

Specifying Fill/No Fill For A Shape

1. I selected the Rectangle tool, and made sure Object Drawing Mode was not selected.

2. I picked colors for stroke and fill, and drew a rectangle.

3. I clicked the Selection tool, then dragged around the rectangle to select all of it.

4. In the Property Inspector I clicked the fill color icon. I clicked the square with the slash, to designate no fill. The fill disappears.

Everything has worked so far. But now I decide I want a fill color after all. I select the shape again. But clicking the fill color icon in the Property Inspector and the Tool panel has no effect on bringing a fill color back to the shape. I can't figure out how to do that.

Actually, I could restore the original fill color using Undo, or the History Panel. But it seems there must be a way using the Property Inspector.

Because it's a little hard to explain what I need.. I'll make an example.So.. I have the figure below. I mean.. that's what I'm trying to achieve. For that figure I have data stored in the folowing way._root.marc is an Array.All the paths that leave a square ... like From M0 if you choose 1 you'll get M1,From M0 through 5 you'll get to M3.. and so on.this is stored like_root.marc[0].p - the paths. If _root.marc[x].p.length is 0.. that means that Mx is the last one.. and has no paths assigned, like shown in the figure. My very big problem is that I need to position that MC's.. M3,M4.. all of them, according to the paths above them.

So, to position M2, i need to take a look at M1, and if it has any paths, more than one path, I need to move it further down. But this is not the end of it. If M1 has more paths that lead to other MC-s.. i need to take in considerations their paths too . This drove me mad for the last couple of days, and my time is slowly running out for my diploma What I've tryed till now was to build a function let's say... getNextY(m) that should return a number. A "ponder"?..like...to use it in a line like M2._y = (currIndex + getNextY(1))*dy;// here it should return 5 for instanceM3._y = (currIndex + getNextY(2))*dy;// here getNextY should return 1

In the code below, I'm looping through nested xml structure of an unknown number of levels. GenMenu is (or will be) a recursive function that will build each level of the menu. My problem is that I can't figure out how to reference the variables from an eventlistener function.
