ActionScript 2.0 :: Infinite Scrolling MC With Easing
Aug 19, 2004
I'm having trouble with a scrolling portfolio type of movie that I've created. It contains a movieclip with thumbnails on it and a left and right button that scroll the thumbnails back and forth. It uses easing to move to each position. It also disables the buttons while the movieclip is scrolling to prevent throwing the movie off alignment. What I'm trying to accomplish is to give the scrolling feature endless scrollability. I have duplicated the slidebar to reposition whichever one necessary to be next in line as the user scrolls through. My code seems to be working but not very well. Sometimes I see one of the slidebars shoot accross the screen to it's correct position, sometimes you have to wait a couple seconds for it to move over.

I'm trying to develop an infinite menu (horizontal scroller) for a Portfolio. It works but not properly the way it should. After few loops the images get out of sync I don't know why. And if possible can you also help to add some easing to the movement? What I did was, I add to instances of the menu one called menu and another called menu1. Than add the following code to the timeline: import flash.events.Event;
I am working on a very minimal site that consists of a swf containing a vertical scrolling infinite menu that loads other swfs into the main timeline: [URL].I am building this in MX, and it is based on this tutorial: [URL]. I figured out how to change this to a vertical format that fit my needs. This is the actionscript I attached to the main menu movie clip:
onClipEvent (load) { ycenter=600; speed=1/10; } onClipEvent (enterFrame) { var distance=_root._ymouse-ycenter; _y+=(distance*speed); if (_y > 0) _y=-2323; if (_y < -2323) _y=0; }
The swfs are sized large as the end result is a private site dealing mostly with clients using very large monitors. I am creating the swfs to be loaded in with Flash CS4, and they contain large images that have smoothing enabled. As I know nothing about Actionscript 3.0 and very little about 2.0, I am creating the main swf in MX as I am more familiar with it.
Anyway, what I need to know is: 1. How to add something to the code that will stop the timeline's scrolling where you left it when you roll off of it, 2. Any other vertical scrolling menus I can take a look at to compare this with?
For a fullscreen AIR app, I want to have a tiling image (JPEG, PNG or whatever) in the background. The app is displayed on large screens in a public building, and to achieve a cool effect I want the background image to "scroll" infinitely, with the direction of scrolling changing with an interval in time. The background must be tiling and always filling the screen. Performance is of importance.What would be the best approach for this? I am thinking toward pixel-level bitmap manipulation. I have no experience in this field and I can't find any good examples/tutorials online.
Has anyone got some nice clean code that; scrolls a movieClip left and right when the mouse is over the left or right part of the stage. When the movieClip comes close to the end, it should slow down rather than abruptly stop.Basically, I have a really wide movieclip full of pictures. I want the user to be able scroll through it by just moving the mouse left to right.
i managed to recreate the parallax scrolling but i cant recreate the smooth scrolling and the zooming in on certain areas in the movie. (the bees movie moves very smooth and mine is kind of 'twitchy' if you change direction with the mouse fast
notice the different zoom-in levels on the different layers and that the movie holds until the mouse leaves the button area... dont know how to do that.
attached is what i came up with so far. i unfortunately cant post the real file for its very heavy on the image side. 240kb.swf. if youre interested i'd post it somewhere for you to view.

Look at e.g. [URL]. When the site loads, the section in the middle contains a scrollbar that scrolls the text with easing. However, the scrollbar itself appears to be the scrollbar component from Flash itself. Is this something that is maybe readily available in MX 2004? Or should this be scripted manually?
I want to do a vertical scrolling movie clip with easing with buttons. No scroll bar. I have attached a sample I have done just using _y properties. Ideally I want it to ease to the right position instead of jumping to it.
i did the tutorial but something is wrong cuz when i created my own little sliding thingy and i put my mouse so it slides left or right on the right side it cuts off a bit when going infinite.I think its something to do with the positioning of my menu because its not on x=0 its on x=120.8 and i was trying to work out how to fix it but i'm stuck...and when i move the menu to x=0 it works nicely.
im trying to create this custom menu a bit more efficiently. As written, it operates fine glitch free. However, id like to incorporate some easing into the movement of each movie clip.
I've built a code to cyclically move a scene on the bottom of my stage; I've done this to make a slowing-and-stop-easing effect at anytime the command will arrive. The entire scene mc is _x long something like 6000 px. The whole code goes in this way:
1) importing on the stage (with attachMovie) a mc with this code inside:
onClipEvent(enterFrame) { _parent._parent.fondo_mc._x -= countermovement; if (_parent._parent.fondo_mc._x <= -5800) {[code].....
The code goes right, but I need to improve it.Now there is just a variable, I tought to use two vars to implement the whole code in a setInterval, but maybe it's unuseful, and actually I can't use it in the right way.
Second issue: actually when slowAndStop function is called the scene slow too fast, if I take it to 15 it slow better but the scene is running too fast...
The best would be that the scene slow down and stop following: A) a temporal variable (and I can try to implement it with setInterval, that for istance is a cycle)
B) an indipendent moving variable, so that on one side I set the speed, on the other side I set the slow-and-stop in a matter of time with countermovement.I also tried to use a second variable:
var counter:Number = 15; // set the _x increment var countermovement:Number = counter/2;
I'm familiar with how to ease something in using motion math. Easing out would not be that bad either. But how would I script something easing in half way, then easing out the second half? It would start slow, gradually move faster, then slow to a stop at the end. - almost like a sine wave I guess?
I have a spark List with an item renderer and a tile layout. If I scroll by clicking with the mouse on the scroll bar and trying to scroll with the mouse wheel after that, there is a problem: The interval of the scrolling is oversized, instead of scrolling one item down (or up) the List scrolls 4 items down (or up).
Im making a scrollable mc. Easiest thing in the world.... but the damn scoller just will not stop when the movie clip it's scrolling ends. It stops....eventully... but not close enough. What actionscript do I need to use and where do I put it?
I have created a vertical menu that scrolls through menu items in a movie clip.There is a big white gap when the movie clip runs out, and it snaps back to the beginning.I would like it to scroll seamlessly, having the end join up with the beginning again without any space.I would like it to scroll to one end of the list and STOP, and scroll back the other way and STOP - without any white space.URL...
This is a repost, but I've still not figured out a solution. I have a Flash movie that appears on a webpage. The Flash contains scrolling content ( scrollpane, text field, whatever).
The containing webpage is tall, and therefore also has scrollbars. My Problem: When users try to use the MouseWheel to scroll through my Flash scrolling data, the browser page scrolls as well. It's very annoying.
I would like to be able to have the MouseWheel scroll my Flash scrolling content when it's over the flash, but scroll the webpage when it's not over the Flash.
Does anybody know a way to supress wheel-based browser page-scrolling while my mouse is over a Flash movie??? Is there a way to eat/stop propagation, whatever, of the wheel event in the brwoser, either from Flash or from Javascript?
I have been working on a site that will display a portfolio for a friend of mine who is a photographer. I want to have thumbnails that can be scrolled on the bottom of the page, and an area where the thumbnail is presented when selected. I have the thumbnails appearing. I have them loading, however, I can't get them to scroll when the mouse moves to the left or right of the row of images. he file can be viewed at...[URL] Here is the code I used for the slideshow:
Shouldn't flash detect these before running the script and crashing and having to force quit and restart (and flash startup takes a while)? Like just give an error: infinite for loop or something? And this happened to me a bunch when working with for loops within for loops, when I accidentally used the same variable for both loops, so of course it never ended and crashed flash.
Yeah, to some extent it's poor design. But the idea I'm going for is that any Event has the potential to compromise of other Events and this idea kinda loops. How to do this?
I want to access a webservice:getMonitorData() , on creationcomplete and returns an array, in an infinite loop so that the getIndex0.text is updated each time.Flex is not able to handle an infinite loop and gives a timeout error 1502. If I run the for loop until i<2000 or so it works fine.How can replace the loop so that my webservice is accessed continiously and the result is shown in getIndex0.text.This is how my application looks like:
I posted on Kirupa Yesterday trying to get help with a project. I've had no response because the help I need is admittedly a pain in the behind. I'm at the end of my thether here so I thought I try posting here also. I'm in the process of trying to make an "infinite scrolling tsunami accordian". Sounds sweet right.
Its supposed to grow as items are moused over along with accordion functionality. also it is supposed to wrap around the items. Ive gotten very close but I have some problems that I've hit a wall on. I've never seen a 3 in one menu like this and it'd be really cool to get it going.
So far I have the tsunami effect and the wrapping around. The only problem is that when you click on an item, instead of the items below it animating to the bottom bound of the menu and then appearing at the top when they go too far theres a big *** pause and then they just jump to wrap around position.
The accordion aspect is there too but I can't figure out how to handle the spacing when an item is expanded. I've attached a zip file containing the project in the hope that somebody might have the time to try and me flesh this out . The class in question is named infiniteTsunamiAccord.
I need to determine if a ray from a point (point and angle or vector) which goes to infinity intersects a line segment (two points), and if so, what direction it crosses (left or right.)I've been searching around on google but haven't had any success implementing the math solutions.I'm trying to do is implement the winding fill rule described here to determine if a path is clockwise or counterclockwise.
The AS in the tut works fine in a stand-alone swf, but if you load it into another swf it wont work properly cuz it uses values like _ymouse<18
Those absolute values are not correct once the swf is loaded into a different sized movie.
What would you guys say is the best way to convert the code so that it would work when loaded?
If thought of changing every value to a target such as _root.MCinMAINmovie.CONTAINERmcFORinfiniteMENU._xm ouse>218 but this seems rather tedious... and it makes it hard to build code for something that needs to be a loaded swf and test it say before you have you main swf built.
i've created av "infinite menu" a menu that moves in a direction depending on the position of the mouse. I need a little help to make it stop whenever the mouse aint over the menu.[code]This is just a beta version so the grapics aren't correct.
