ActionScript 3.0 :: Infinite Scrolling Bitmap In Background With Random Direction?

Jun 6, 2010

For a fullscreen AIR app, I want to have a tiling image (JPEG, PNG or whatever) in the background. The app is displayed on large screens in a public building, and to achieve a cool effect I want the background image to "scroll" infinitely, with the direction of scrolling changing with an interval in time. The background must be tiling and always filling the screen. Performance is of importance.What would be the best approach for this? I am thinking toward pixel-level bitmap manipulation. I have no experience in this field and I can't find any good examples/tutorials online.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Infinite Scrolling MC With Easing?

Aug 19, 2004

I'm having trouble with a scrolling portfolio type of movie that I've created. It contains a movieclip with thumbnails on it and a left and right button that scroll the thumbnails back and forth. It uses easing to move to each position. It also disables the buttons while the movieclip is scrolling to prevent throwing the movie off alignment. What I'm trying to accomplish is to give the scrolling feature endless scrollability. I have duplicated the slidebar to reposition whichever one necessary to be next in line as the user scrolls through. My code seems to be working but not very well. Sometimes I see one of the slidebars shoot accross the screen to it's correct position, sometimes you have to wait a couple seconds for it to move over. It's acting very quirky. I'll post the .

ActionScript 2.0 :: SWF Containing Vertical Scrolling Infinite Menu

Jan 29, 2009

I am working on a very minimal site that consists of a swf containing a vertical scrolling infinite menu that loads other swfs into the main timeline: [URL].I am building this in MX, and it is based on this tutorial: [URL]. I figured out how to change this to a vertical format that fit my needs. This is the actionscript I attached to the main menu movie clip:

onClipEvent (load) {
ycenter=600;
speed=1/10;
} onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
var distance=_root._ymouse-ycenter;
_y+=(distance*speed);
if (_y > 0) _y=-2323;
if (_y < -2323) _y=0;
}

The swfs are sized large as the end result is a private site dealing mostly with clients using very large monitors. I am creating the swfs to be loaded in with Flash CS4, and they contain large images that have smoothing enabled. As I know nothing about Actionscript 3.0 and very little about 2.0, I am creating the main swf in MX as I am more familiar with it.

Anyway, what I need to know is:
1. How to add something to the code that will stop the timeline's scrolling where you left it when you roll off of it,
2. Any other vertical scrolling menus I can take a look at to compare this with?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Infinite Tiled Background?

Sep 1, 2009

I am creating a space game in AS3. In order to show movement while keeping your space ship in the center of the screen I would like to move the background (in the opposite direction that the space ship is moving). I would like the background to tile so that if you ever reach the end of one background image it will place another one right next to it seamlessly. I have worked out the code to move the tiles to the right place at the right time, however whenever the tile is repositioned due to the ship reaching the edge, there is a brief period of lag.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Infinite Motion Background Image Solution

Jun 2, 2010

I'm putting together a swf file and I'm trying to have clouds moving in the background from right to left infinitely. Currently I made a cloud image the height of the movie and about 4 times wider than the movie and I have it tweening slowly. The image size and the fact it eventually stops is what I'm trying to change now. I made an "infinite" cloud image about 2/3rds the width of the swf. By infinite I mean the left edge and right edge match up, so it looks seemless if you repeat it over the x axis. Now I'm looking for a solution to create a movie clip that will loop this image so it's constantly sliding to the left and repeating itself.

Can anyone help? I did the animation through tweening in flash so my code is tiny, but here's what it is. I'm new to flash so forgive me if I don't know what I'm doing.

Actionscript 3 :: Lazy Loading Infinite Scroll Background In Flash CS5?

Feb 8, 2011

The project I'm working on has a massive background image (800px wide by 2585px tall) that slowly scrolls upwards. Before, I was using the code [URL].. I modified the code to scroll upwards, but in addition to having a weird intermittent bug that occasionally displays a pixel-tall blank line after the image and before looping the next, it really doesn't seem to handle dynamic loading well (I've tried using several different preloader scripts and it breaks all of them), something that may not have been an issue with the initial implementation but is now that I'm using a monstrously huge image.

Thus, my question: a. Is there another bit of free, Flash-based infinite scroll code floating around that has support for lazy-loading background objects (Say, the existing background chopped in 6)?

Professional :: Background Scrolling - Attach The Trees To The Background?

Nov 19, 2010

I have converted a large background image (much larger than the stage) into a Movie Clip.  I did this so I can make it scroll as the player traverses to the edge of the scene.This appears to make the player free to roam the entire background image.I have a tree symbol with a class attached to it that blocks player movement.Here is my problem:

When I drag and drop instances of the tree symbol onto the background, the trees are stationary and do not scroll with the background.I do not want to have to implement code to make the trees scroll when the background does.I was wondering if there was a way to simply attach the trees to the background so that if the background moves, the trees move with it and appear to be part of the background as if they were drawn into it.It is convenient for me to be able to drag and drop as many trees as i need to block certain routes on the background from the player.I tried writing code to make the trees move but it was only working for the very last tree that I added to the scene.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Random Animation + Random Sounds + Background Music?

A background music looping in the back, that starts with the opening of the swf and never stops. I think I achieved that with this bit of code :import flash.media.Sound;

import flash.net.URLRequest;
import flash.media.SoundChannel;
bg music[code].....

Finally I need to jump from frame to frame randomly to play various animations. For example :Project starts, background music starts playing, we hear random sounds played one after the other, while some animations can be seen on screen, playing in a random order.

Edit Bitmap, Remove Background In Flash CS4?

Sep 16, 2009

I tried to drag in from Photoshop a layer with an image and transparent background, but it turns white in Flash, so I imported the image from psd. However, the black background is interfering with the placement of the image. In OLD flash, there used to be a magic wand and the ability to select areas of the bitmap and delete, but it seems that the feature is now missing or hidden in new flash.  I turned the image into bitmap and I don't want to trace it, because it is a photo. So, without tracing, how do you now edit the image as I'm trying to do?

AS3 :: Flex Masks With Black Background From Png Bitmap

Apr 30, 2010

What I am trying to achieve might be trivial, however I am loading a PNG mask which does not have a transparent background, but rather a black background, with the shape defined on top in white (the actual mask which needs to be applied). Apparently Flex expects me to provide a mask with a transparent background for it to work, or am I missing something?

If that's the case, could I transform the bitmapData which I am loading so that it treats black color as transparent?

Start / Stop A Scrolling Background?

Mar 18, 2009

Im trying to animate a scrolling background which is simple enough. I dont want the background animation to scroll when the game is first loaded, I only want it to begin scrolling after the play button is clicked.

Ive used stop(); command in the first line of the MovieClip instance that is the back ground.

Some things I have tried

- Coding in flash to scroll the background, add a check to see once the background reached a certain x.position on the stage, it would addChild the same instance, where it originally was located and repeat the scroll process. I couldnt get this work, but would be intersted to see how you guys would approach it.

-Tried using a gotoAndPlay(2); in the movieclip last key frame to repeat the process. This causes the animation to chop up. I tried using this several diffrent ways, I could get it work at one point. But the background would scroll before the button was even clicked, I couldnt figure out a work around.
