ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Completely Scripted Movie Into Container Clip
Oct 4, 2003
I want to load a completely scripted movie into a container clip but when I test it none of the script is executed. When I load a movie that is just a tween it works. What should I do to make the script work??? i have a feeling it has something to do with _root it the loaded movie.

I have some buttons that load an external flash file into the container movie clip with this code:
[code]...
So it plays the tweening out animation of the file that's already loaded, then loads the new file, playing the tweening in animation. However, currently the container movie clip is empty when the flash movie is played. I want to be able to have some content already loaded in it, but when I use the container .loadMovie("start.swf") code, it just keeps loading start.swf into it when any of the other buttons are clicked. Is there a way I can have content load when the flash movie is started, but when any of the buttons are clicked, for it to tween out, and basically, never reappear?
I'm creating a small drag & drop activity, and I want to be able to check and see if the dragged movie clip is completely within the bounds of another movie clip (or at least in the bounds of a certain x/y zone on the main stage. I can't use dropTest because it returns true if any tiny bit of the movie clip overlaps with the dropTest movie clip.
I also thought of something that just checks the x/y coordinates of the dragged movie clip, but I'd need this to reflect a range of values rather than one coordinate. For instance, I'd want to return true if the movie clip's x is between 50-60 AND the y is between 50-60. I'm attaching a small graphic to illustrate in case my explanation isn't clear enough [URL]
I started working actionscript 2 yesterday for a uni project. I was wondering if I can target a movie clip on a different frame from the scripted button. For instance would:
I have an swf with several movie clips set up to work as navigation buttons (using _up, _over and _down frame labels). The same navigation swf is used by several different HTML pages and navigates between them.
I want to pass the swf a variable with FlashVars in the object/embed script that will disable the movie clip button for the page the user is currently on.
In AS3 myClip.enabled = false; only removes the rollover behavior of the clip, but does not prevent the clip from receiving mouse events.
How can I disable the clip completely so that it does not respond to events?
I am targeting a a movie clip. The problem is that all the syntax I have found for targetting clips looks like this: _root.sample_mc.sample2.mc. etc. The problem is, my target clip is in an swf that I've loaded into a container clip from my main timeline. So, essentially, I have a home.swf that loads menu.swf into a container called 'location'. In menu.swf, I have an MC called center, which contains the MC I am targetting called 'target'.
I cant figure out how to unload a movie clip. I thought i knew how, but its not working and i've tried everything i can think of.I'm loading an external swf like this:[code]This works fine. It loads an external swf that plays a youtube video. However, whenever i click on my navigation buttons to go to another page (basically another movieclip in teh _root level, it does not unload the youtube player and it keeps playing. Further more, if i go back to that page, the youtube player loads again and starts repeating itself.I thought by adding the following code to all my navigational buttons, the youtube player would unload, but it doesn't:[code]
I'm using the following code to load a .jpg into a movie clip container the problem is I need the container to be a specific size I tried loader.content.width = 50; and loader.content.height = 50; the height part works but the width doesn't work my image just expands beyond the stage width.How do i set the size of the movie clip container?I don't care if the image gets distorted i have a resize script for the images before they are loaded into flash.[code]
I've created a main page with my main links on top, and a container as my body.I load my pages with this action to the container.
on (release) { if (_root.currMovie == undefined) { _root.currMovie = "production"; container.loadMovie("production.swf");
[code]....
Inside the production.swf files I've created a gallery with a MovieClip that loads from my library to a container1 inside the production.swf. In the galleryMC(from library), Ive created a close button to unload it from the container1. It works fine from my production.swf file, but when it loads to the main page it doesn't unload. This is the ActionScript that I have to unload the Movie Clip.
on (release) { this._root.container1.unloadMovie(); }
I'm loading movies into a container loader BUT when I load in one of my games it runs real slow. Is it because I should have removed other movies first ie: They seem to be all in there and stacked on top of each other.
import flash.net.URLRequest;import flash.display.Loader;import flash.events.Event; MyButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, this.startLoad);function startLoad(e:MouseEvent){ var mLoader:Loader = new Loader()
I have a .swf file with tool tips and dynamic colors on movie clips that I want to load into another movie.
s_1800.onRollOver = function (){myTooltip.content = "Office #: 1800"+newline+"SF: 0";var colorful = new Color ("_root.s_1800");colorful.setRGB(0xb5282c);myTooltip.showTooltip();}s_1800.onRollOut = function (){myTooltip.hideTooltip();}
I am trying to create a gallery where the thumbnails scroll across the bottom and when you click on the thumb a new large image opens up on top of it from the same image.
What i would like to do is open up the large image but draw a box around this image so it blanks out the background of the site and all you see is that picture.
Its a similar function to the way this site works;
I'm making a banner ad for work and have a part where I want to basically rain our logo for like 15 frames or so. I've started doing this manually but as you can imagine, it's a bit tedious and time consuming. I looked at Kirupa's tutorials on snow and continual motion but I'm wondering how I would go about scripting it so it does the following within mc_logorain (which is sitting on the root) on enter:
1. duplicates mc_logo many times, randomizing size.
2. Rains for a set amount of time or frames and unloads.
I think I understand the logic of what's supposed to happen, just not sure of the syntax. Would there be two loops? One for the duplicate/random size and one to say basically "while i < 100, keep duplicating and raining"?
i am working on a project where i require to load an external swf movie in a container at frame3 when i click on a button at frame1..and at he same time the movie should fit exactly into that container..and at the end of the movie it should bring back me to the frame1 where all my buttons are there..another thing is my first frame of the external movies which i have to load is blank so i want to load a movie directly from frame2i have tried several things but everythng is not working at he same time..

I have attached two pictures. Basically I am making a website. The main navigation loads in external swf's through a container movie. For this I have used this tutorial : [URL]. What I want to do is- when you rollover the navigation bar, be it the text or the coloured block- I want it to scroll down and reveal the 'sub navigation'. (pic2) It's like a drop down menu but kind of the other way around. Then, when you either rolloff of the navigation bar or click on a menu button, it slides back up to its original state. (Pic1). I have played around and only managed a sloppy version which doesn't work very well, especially when you resize. I think a simple answer to this is if I could get my buttons to work inside a movie clip. I had tried this but then the swfs wouldn't load properly.
when loading/unloading external swfs into a container movie,i`ve noticed that any intervals (within the loaded files)i`ve used are not being cleared despite the movie being unloaded causing errors when the same swf is reloaded. Without manually clearing all intervals is there a way round this?
I've been trying to load a movie clip from a movie clip that has been loaded. I am trying to provide a simple means to change the look / feel of the flash application by placing the graphics and controls into a second swf. Each different screen is represented by a different movie clip that is in the second swf. So I've got app.swf loading ui.swf. I want to load screen1_mc from ui.swf.
The app.swf is loaded by a master swf. There may be multiple copies of the app.swf that can be loaded by the master.swf and each app.swf could be configured differently. For each "unique" app.swf it is stored under a unique folder that is not known to me in advance. Since I don't know the unique folder in advance, I can't use import / export for runtime sharing. Is there any way to load the movie clips from the loaded movie clip? (Basically, I want to treat the ui.swf as an extension to the library.)
I'm working on a flash site and I'm having some trouble with the programming for it. I'm not so great at action script, so I'm hoping that my troubles are caused by my own stupidity and that some cool smart person will have an answer for me. So, I have a main menu flash file that functions like the one in this tutorial: http://www.kirupa.com/developer/mx/p...transition.htm I set it to load various swf files and it's works just fine. What I want to do is have it load a swf that functions exactly the same (buttons that load external clips with transitions) as the main swf- this is a sub page menu. So, in theory, the sub menu page should load the final content, and three swfs would be seen stacked ontop of each other.
I changed the instance names in the sub menu file to be different than that in the main menu file. This fixed the original problem of it loading the content clip into the clip that the sub menu should stay in. Now, It loads the sub menu just fine, but then it gets stuck and never loads the content. The sub menu buttons will not function at all. Independent of the main menu, the sub menu file works perfectly What can I do??? Does it have anything to do with the "_root"? I never understood the concept, so I'm having trouble with it.
I am loading images of different size and then images are scaled and border is drawn for each image as shown in below link,[URL]... I want that border of images to be of the same width and height and for that I need to find out the max width and height size image before loading all the images. Is there any way that I can know the width and height of an image before loading it completely?

I have a problem with buttons and transitions and it is similar to a problem I had a couple of days ago that I posted and that was sorted out. I have two buttons onstage (they're inside a movie clip) inside the movie, on the button one I have the following
[Code]....
I have similar code on button two and this does indeed make the buttons move into place as required. My problem is this, I need to load in external swf files into an empty movie clip on the main stage called container. These External SWF files have transitions and this is where my problem is. If I place a normal button on the stage it works but not if the button is inside a movie clip and has actions applied as above. The code next is what I have believe should also be placed on the button to make swf transition one load in.
Ive created a project that creates random movies clips with text in them, everything works fine except that movie clips will overlap each other due to the random nature of the project.I've looked everywhere tips on hitTest methods but I cant seem to get it right, the major problem is that the clips have similiar names, if I try a hit test the movie clip will just detect itself and not look for the other clips.
I'm new to Flash and AS3, but with the help of many examples I have managed to created a scripted movie using some time lapse photography. I load the images from an XML file and use an event listener to add each image as a child of a movie clip. As the number of children grew, it caused the frame rate to slow, so I figured out that I could remove them after they were viewed and just keep looping through the array.
This works great on the local machine and when served up from the web server behind the firewall. However, if I try to access the file from outside the firewall, it loads the first image or two very slowly (if at all) then hangs. I've performed a net stat from the server and noticed that it is opening an inordinate number of connections to the remote client on various client ports (from 6 to 60+).
