ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading External SWF And JPG Using Base Folder
Oct 21, 2004
My Flash app doesn't work in FireFox (but works in IE). The problem I know is associated to loading external SWF and JPG files when using a BASE folder. Without the base folder it works fine. Here is some syntax I use:
[On Frame 1 of the base SWF, i.e. one frame before the preloader frame:]
....
_root.logo_mc.loadMovie("FlashFiles/Logo.jpg", "GET");
This file never gets loaded into the BaseApp.swf. The object html tag looks something like this:
<OBJECT....
<PARAM NAME=movie VALUE="[URL]">
<PARAM NAME=menu VALUE=false>
<PARAM NAME=quality VALUE=high>
<PARAM NAME=bgcolor VALUE=#FFFFFF>
[Code] ....
What's the easiest resolution to get it working in FireFox as well as IE?

I recently got the following code from one of your tutorials and am wondering why it is that when I try to change the .jpg images to .png images, the images no longer appear in the swf file. Does flash no allow .png files to be loaded.The reason that I need the files to be png is because the have to have a transparent backgroung.[code].....

I'm programming using the SWT Widget Library for Java in eclipse, and I'm designing a runnable Java application. I've got the application down, I just don't know how to load external .swf files from a folder on "ALL" computers. I can load Images from any computer, because I use the getResourceAsStream line of code. But the "import com.docuverse.swt.flash.FlashPlayer" "loadMovie(arg, arg)" only takes a String.
So I did ClassName.class.getResource("blah.swf").getPath(); which gives you a string, I set it up, and running it on eclipse it can perfectly find the file in the package. When I export it, the runnable Jar I made cannot find the "blah.swf" inside of the .jar file.So there is my problem, how do I load my .swf files from within the .jar or from an external folder so clients can download along side the .jar executable application, so it can point to those swf files.

I have an app that "loadmovies" a slideshow.swf in a sub-folder. THis sub-folder also contains an xml file and numbered jpgs.But when I run the main app, and click on the button to load the sub SWF files, the images do not appear. I assume it is a directory issue.
But if I run the slideshow.swf directly from it's folder, the images appear fine.I am using the xml_photogallery from this site for the main actionscript, is there something I can change here to point to the jpgs path?

I have a flash file in folder "/" which loads another flash file in folder "/xyz/". The second flash file will load several resource files on its own. Now flash is looking for the resource files at the base folder "/" and instead of the other loaded flash's folder "/xyz/". The second loaded flash file is provided by a third party and can't be modified. Is there any way to dynamically change the base folder of the "application" at run-time? I've heard about the html swf tag "BASE" so I've tried loading the second flash file with a ".....?BASE=/xyz/" but it doesn't work.

I have created a test print base swf and have used the code below in frame 1 to load another movie into it called "TestPrint.swf". I have a button called "my_btn" located in "TestPrint.swf". I have targeted this button in the code below (or so I thought). This is designed to print the contents of frames 1 and 2 within the swf. There are no movieclips within the loaded swf.
this.createEmptyMovieClip("holder_mc", 999);
holder_mc.loadMovie("TestPrint.swf");
this.holder_mc.my_btn.onRelease = function() {
print(this._parent.holder_mc, "bframe");
};
The TestPrint.swf loads OK, but I am unable to print the contents of TestPrint.swf. I suspect that it is an addressing problem and I am not very familiar with relative addressing.

This question stems from this question that I asked yesterday.I've followed Theo's advice and created a .swc with all the common classes and added the .swc as an external library to my module .swf. This all seems to have worked smoothly--I don't get TypeErrors and my classes are all present in the catalog.xml of the .swc file when I unzip it--but now I've encountered a new problem: when I try to link a symbol in the module .fla's library to a base class from my .swc rsl, it says the base class definition can't be found in the classpath. The whole reason I want to use rsls is so I can do this,If I now include the project's source path or the .swc in the normal (not external) library path, will that cancel the sharing benefits of the rsl, or will the compiler still know not to compile the shared classes into the module .swf?

I have a method that converts an int to a base60 string (using 0-9, a-z, and A-Z chars), but can't work out how to convert it back again. Here is my method for converting base10 to base60:
public static function toBase60(value:Number):String
{
var targetBase:uint = 60;
[Code]....
Works well. But how do I get the base60 string back into a base10 int?

Its been a while since i touched flash, which is funny considering i started my web/development career here.Anyway, in PHP there is a nice little function called base_convert (http:url....) which will take any number in any base (e.g. base 10, decimal) and convert it to any base (e.g. base 16, hex).So base_convert (15, 10, 16) will output F, which is convenient.I am wondering, as i cannot seem to find, if there is any similar function in actionscript. I am trying to convert from base 10 to 16 and then base 16 to 36.

I'm working with modules and each of it will be compiled (deployed) in a common folder in a webproject. In the main class I defined an array of module paths which I need for loading all these defined modules.
How can I make that more dynamically, for instance, I want to say, load all modules in a certain folder an its subfolders without to know each module by name.

I have this script (below) that picks out the files from a folder and loads them into the swf without saying specifically what the filenames are. At the moment they load in 1 at a time, how can I make it so they all load at once in a horizontal row with a whote gap between each of them?The whole point of this is so the user can just upload files to a folder and not have to touch any script etc.The plan is to put them into an infinate menu (that part is ready, its just the first bit thats causing me problems).
Code:
delay = 3000;
//-----------------------
function loadPHP(loaded) {
if (loaded) {
imageArr = new Array();

I have a really annoying slide show that shows pairs of before and after pictures. What I need is to be able to preload a folder of images and then load those images into movieClip holders. I have no idea how to get the images to preload.What I really wanted is a slide show that has pairs of images that fade from before to after. With buttons along the bottom that take you to the next pair of images. AND have all the images loaded in from an XML document. Bonus to anyone who can give me a hint on that one.Really i would settle how to preload the images while the preloader is going. And then loading the first pair of slides. [URL]

I'm working on an image gallery in Flash that plays a slideshow of different images I have on my hard drive. I've got the basics of it working, but I'm still stuck on something. If my images are in the same folder as the Flash project file or a sub-folder of it, then it works fine. However, I can't figure out how to load images from some other folder. In my case, the Flash project is located at "~/Programming/Flash/Projects/slideshow/" and the images I want to load are at "~/Pictures/Gallery/". Using a normal path didn't work so I figured I could access them with a file:// path, but that doesn't work either gives me "Error #2035: URL Not Found"). Is there a specific way you have to format the file path in Flash, or is it just not possible?

Code:
// Array of external clips to use. Variable index refers to next clip to be displayed.
var clips:Array = ["clips/clip0.swf", "clips/clip1.swf", "clips/clip2.swf", "clips/clip3.swf"];
[Code]....
I am hoping to modify it so I don't have to "hard-code" the "folder/filename.swf" into the var clips:Array line...that way anyone can upload swfs into the "clips" folder and thisLoader will take care of the rest...
