ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Files Dynamically Outside Of The Project Folder?
Jul 31, 2009
I'm working on an image gallery in Flash that plays a slideshow of different images I have on my hard drive. I've got the basics of it working, but I'm still stuck on something. If my images are in the same folder as the Flash project file or a sub-folder of it, then it works fine. However, I can't figure out how to load images from some other folder. In my case, the Flash project is located at "~/Programming/Flash/Projects/slideshow/" and the images I want to load are at "~/Pictures/Gallery/". Using a normal path didn't work so I figured I could access them with a file:// path, but that doesn't work either gives me "Error #2035: URL Not Found"). Is there a specific way you have to format the file path in Flash, or is it just not possible?
i have situation in which i have some library projects, say
"DataProcessors","Lib2"
, included in my lets say "MainProject" (a web project) placed on directory
"E:in-debugMainProject.swf"
, when i build the project it automatically place all the libs .swf in its "E:in-debug" folder, but when i debug or run the project it it gives loading error that
I have this script (below) that picks out the files from a folder and loads them into the swf without saying specifically what the filenames are. At the moment they load in 1 at a time, how can I make it so they all load at once in a horizontal row with a whote gap between each of them?The whole point of this is so the user can just upload files to a folder and not have to touch any script etc.The plan is to put them into an infinate menu (that part is ready, its just the first bit thats causing me problems).
Code: delay = 3000; //----------------------- function loadPHP(loaded) { if (loaded) { imageArr = new Array();
Hello again. Well I dont have too long to write this down so I'll make it short and sweet. Heres the problem.I need to load pictures into a file. However I want it to load all the pictures in a certain folder. Does anyone have any suggestions, or questions as to what i am trying to do? I want to load pictures into the movie at runtime. And I want it to load all the picture within a folder. I could name the pictures in a certain way if needed. aka pic1, pic2.
I recently got the following code from one of your tutorials and am wondering why it is that when I try to change the .jpg images to .png images, the images no longer appear in the swf file. Does flash no allow .png files to be loaded.The reason that I need the files to be png is because the have to have a transparent backgroung.[code].....
Code: // Array of external clips to use. Variable index refers to next clip to be displayed. var clips:Array = ["clips/clip0.swf", "clips/clip1.swf", "clips/clip2.swf", "clips/clip3.swf"];
[Code]....
I am hoping to modify it so I don't have to "hard-code" the "folder/filename.swf" into the var clips:Array line...that way anyone can upload swfs into the "clips" folder and thisLoader will take care of the rest...
I'm programming using the SWT Widget Library for Java in eclipse, and I'm designing a runnable Java application. I've got the application down, I just don't know how to load external .swf files from a folder on "ALL" computers. I can load Images from any computer, because I use the getResourceAsStream line of code. But the "import com.docuverse.swt.flash.FlashPlayer" "loadMovie(arg, arg)" only takes a String.
So I did ClassName.class.getResource("blah.swf").getPath(); which gives you a string, I set it up, and running it on eclipse it can perfectly find the file in the package. When I export it, the runnable Jar I made cannot find the "blah.swf" inside of the .jar file.So there is my problem, how do I load my .swf files from within the .jar or from an external folder so clients can download along side the .jar executable application, so it can point to those swf files.
I'm trying to create an as3 project that dynamically pulls images from a database and sticks them into the framework of a flash movie that I making with this. Currently I am following a tutorial (in as2, and I am converting it to as3 as I go along) and am trying to get images to load from the same directory as the project, but I am having issues with the Loader. I am a complete newb at as3 and as such have almost no idea what I am doing,Here is the entire code from my project.
Iam trying to create a preloader for my XML files loading to my project. This tutorail is working fine. but only for one file. I need to create one preloader for all my XML files(6 XML files loading in the first frame.)
I am undergoing a huge flash project at the moment and as wondering whether or not an approach would work for something. Basically everything in the project involves loading data and movie clips dynamically in certain arrangements etc. I have built everything already bar a couple of things to create demos including dynamically loading mcs from the library etc all with as3, but now I am moving on to loading data dynamically and before I immerse myself completely I was wondering whether or not something is possible. Basically as I mouse over an mc i want a couple of things to come up which would be held in a database, such as a question and an answer, but this data will change quite frequently when the demo is up and running, is it possible for the data to be updated in the dynamic text boxes without mousing out and mousing over again? That is one of my concerns ( I have a couple ).
I had thought of maybe using a timer to query the database every 2 to 3 minutes and use php and mysql with as3 to then load the data into the text boxes, hopefully without having to mouseover the mc again and simply leaving the cursor over the mc the whole time. My main concern is whether or not I can query the database on a regular basis... using a timer method as described above, or is this simply stagnant data? i.e. can i use php and mysql in as3 to continuously query a database?
I have one Eclipse Workspace containing two projects. - The first is my actual library. - The second is example code for using the library.When I push this code to GitHub, I don't want two separate projects, I want the example code to go into an "example" folder of the second library.How and where would I do this? From Eclipse, GIT, or GitHub?Or is there a better way of including sample code in GitHub projects? (the example code doesn't actually need any version control)
Is it possible to dynamically load vector files, in this case .ai files in Actionscript 3? You can import them to the stage, but I want to do this dynamically, is there a way to do this?
I created a flash web site where I'm dynamically loading all the .swf files into one. I'm using Flash 8, Actionscript 2, Flash Player 8. The goal was to break up the file size of the project and load the .swf files via four buttons 'HOME' 'PEOPLE' 'RESEARCH' 'PUBLICATIONS' repectively. I was able to do this using the following code for the buttons.
button_name.onRelease = function () { createEmptyMovieClip("container", 1); loadMovie("people.swf", "container");
I have a project where I need to use XML to dynamically load PNG and GIF files not just JPEGs. I have found forums and information from 2004 of users complaining about the capability not being available but since then we now have Flash 8.
Working in a very large Flash application, previously in AS2/CS3 I would have a setup like the following:
root.swf-- modules---- code_a.swf---- code_b.swf-- views---- view_a.swf---- view_b.swfUsing _exclude.xml files, I could exclude the classes defined in code_a and code_b from the ouptut .swf of view_a and view_b. root.swf would be responsible for loading the code modules before view_a or view_b, ensuring that class definitions that view_a and view_b depended on existed.
The Problem:We've recently migrated to using Actionscript 3/CS5. *_exclude.xml files no longer exist. To get the same functionality as above, I've tried the following: My setup now looks something like:
root.swf-- modules---- class_a.as---- class_b.as-- views---- view_a.swf---- view_b.swfUse mxmlc to compile root.swf, view_a.swf and view_b.swf, passing it -externs option to specify classes that will be loaded externally (the two classes in modules).
This ensures that the class is excluded from the compiled swf.Use compc to compile class_a.as and class_b.as into classes.swf, using -directory=true to access library.swf for external loading.However,when I try running one of the two view files which depend on classes.swf, I get runtime errors telling me that a class definition is not present.
Current Workaround
I've devised a workaround which I'm currently not happy with as it's backwards to the modular approach that I was previously using:Rather than loading the code modules, I statically link all class definitions required by child movies intoroot.swf. When building root.swf, I use the -link-report option of mxmlc to provide a list of included classes. When building child swfs, I can the use -load-externs to ensure that class definitions that already exist will not be included in the compile output.
Is there a way that anyone is aware of to replicate the AS2/_exclude.xml solution that I had using AS3/CS5?
I have a swc(degrafa) that I have been referencing externally in another folder on my computer. When I tried to move the swc to the libs folder I was no longer able to access the swc from my application.
Is there any way to copy a folder with a bunch of layers and keyframes to a different flash project?
or in another way is there a way for me to save time and copy a work i have done on a different project and use it in a new, consisting a keyframed animation?
Here in Flash CS4 Explorer, I have shapes. It's intuitive that I be able to right-click on Scene1, and be able to Insert Shape. Can't. I go to the frame. Can't. I right-click everywhere. I see 'Create Shape', but everywhere I see it, it's grayed out - won't let me.
How do I create new shapes in the graphics folder in the library of a flash cs4 project?
Me and my buddy is having a huge problem. It seems like we have hit a limit in how many assets (movieclips/sounds etc) that we can have in our library. We can export at the moment, but if we put in another cutscene or sound flash wont export. It shows the progress bar but when its done the .swf dosent show up and cannot be found in the project folder.
Does anyone have a clue on whats going on? We've been working on this game for the past 5 months (full time) and we'd be devastated if all our time and effort has been in vain.
I'm currently looking at structuring my teams projects into a consistent manner that properly utilises packages and is easily version-controlled (via SVN). I'm interested in any 'best practise' with regards to project structuring and how to use consistent packaging without lumping everything into a gigantic [URL] folder structure whilst maintaining that package structure. I'm also keen to use the src/bin/lib folder structure within each project.
I'm making a desktop application and I need to get all of the file from in certain folder. Is this possible in AS? IE, I need to get the name of and import every file in the folder C://documents and settings/my pics.
I want to create a folder structure through Flex or AIR... is it possible? I mean the Flex or AIR will receive the inputs on what the folders and file names will be and when i press create, it should create a directory structure...
It is possible in PHP through fileSystem, but i am not sure whether it is possible in FLex or AIR....
What I want to do is to extract a zip file to a specific folder.I am using the code below that promts the user to choose which directory the zip should be extracted to and the extracts it succesfully.Now I would like define a fixed folder where the files should be axtracted to instead of letting the user decide.
Actionscript Code: function extractZIP():void { output.text = "extractZIP MANUAL"; zipOutput.browseForDirectory("Select Directory for extract");
I would like to build an image gallery in Flash with AS2 or AS3 that detects automatically the number of images available in a specific folder (say a level below the swf file).The goal is to don't have to config any xml files with the images to show.
I'm trying to get the name of every files from a specific folder into an array, but I get this error and I can't find why... TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
Here's my code: import flash.filesystem.File; function getFileList(directory:String):Array { var folder:File = new File(directory); var files:Array = folder.getDirectoryListing(); var fileList:Array; [Code] .....
I want to get a list images inside a folder but in order to do that, I need to get the names all the files inside a folder first. What flash class should I look into to allow me to do this?
EDIT:how about doing this using php? what should I return/echo on my php file?
I'm working on an application where client may upload any folder which may contain sub folders along with files. Is it possible to upload a folder instead of a file?
I want to embed all xml files of a given folder. For now I'm doing something like this:
[Embed(source="../somefolder/file1.xml", mimeType="application/octet-stream")] private var MyClass1:Class; [Embed(source="../somefolder/file2.xml", mimeType="application/octet-stream")] private var MyClass2:Class;
[Code]....
The list of XML files will grow to 10+ files, so I'm looking for a more elegant and dynamic way to embed those files.
The files should be embedded on compilation, to load them via URLLoader is not an option.
How can i get all the files in a given folder in flex project. the folder is within the project itself, under src folder, like.[code]I want to get the names of all jpg file in an array.. how it can be done programmaticly?
