Feb 9, 2012This issue is my constant pain, and has set my project back some time. I'm creating a message system for my game, it's supposed to record events that happened during travel, 3 vars per message (topic, in game date, content)All the vars are in an external as file and a public class. The problem is they return blank in the mc's textfields while displaying correctly on the main timeline textfields at the same time. This is the code sitting inside the mc that doesn't work.

on the main timeline, even in the same frame, works perfectly, and i can't figure out why.

Jun 24, 2008i am having a main.swf which has a movieclip in the form of a window. it's instance name is window_mc. this window has an empty movieclip called load_mc and i am trying to load another swf called login.swf into window_mc.load_mc using
window_mc.load_mc.loadMovie("login.swf");
both main and login swfs are having resolution 1000x780.. but wen it is loaded as said above, the texts inside the loaded swf looks very large. the resolution looks as if they are different.. i haven't tried loading movieclips much. but wen i load a swf into an empty movieclip, it wrks perfectly fine...

Jul 23, 2010I am having a problem loading a swf into a movieclip inside another swf. I keep getting this error message:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at contact_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
after googling the error, I have come to suspect that I am trying to load the swf before the stage is ready for it. Although, I load another swf and it loads fine. How can I verify which part of my movie is causing the problem?

Apr 10, 2005I found a script which loads text from a TXT file. Now the code worked fine on a button, but as soon I put that code on a MC it doesn't load the variables properly. That meas; I don't any script errors, but the text doesn't appear in the dynamic texterea.

Nov 8, 2009how would I LOAD an image.. into a movieclip.. then resize the movieclip to the size of the image..
now I know how to put the image inside of the movieclip with addChild(), but then when I try to resize the movieclip to the size of the IMAGE, it changes the size of the image inside the movieclip.. now I know that when a movieclip scales so does everything else.. so my question is.. how to go about modifying this to make it work no matter what
basically I have a editor so to speak and when you drag the blips it will resize it.. but the problem is actually LOADING the image into the movieclip because once it is same width/height as the movieclip (and shows that way on the screen) my script will handle it perfectly. is there a trick to this.. here is the code I've got so far..

the loader can change so I remove it from the movieclip when the dispatch function gets called, imageLoader is the loader which loads the image.. sizes just returns either max sized resized proportions or regular height of the image.. note "this" or rather the element I'm using is by default 100x100.

Feb 22, 2012I'm trying to load an external swf inside of my movie clip.
meter.loadMovie("external.swf");
I managed to get the above to work but as soon as I press a button in the external movie it reacts with my main movie! So a button in the external movie that makes the timeline go to frame 2 makes the main flash file to goto frame 2. Also, can you load external swf files that use external folders for content? Basically I have an interactive diabetes meter and it's all controlled via scripting ( I didn't create it ) but it has the main swf file which you load. However it references other folders and scripting files.

How would I do this? (Like lets say Main.swf wanted to know the value for Timer.swf's variable called xTime and Timer.swf wanted to know the value for Main.swf's variable xtimezone )

Error: Error #2101: The String passed to URLVariables.decode() must be a URL-encoded query string containing name/value pairs.

I understands this is because of flash player security and need to place crossdomain.xml file. but the my doubt is where to post my crossdomain.xml file in the local machine(to check the swf) and also in my website for the rest.

Mar 3, 2010In my main .swf I have labels on the timeline, navs for those btns are on the first frame of the AS layer and each button sends the playhead to a different frame. On one frame called fr1 there is an mc called mc_1 that appears on stage when the playhead stops there. Inside mc_1 are a set of navigation buttons that need to call external .swfs.
Do I add event listeners on the last frame of mc_1 for each button? how do I call the loaders for the swfs on the buttons since the swfs will load on the main timeline NOT the mc_1 timeline?
So label on main timeline called fr1 will load external1 swf , on fr10 external 2.swf will load and so on.

Jan 25, 2004I have my MAIN FLASH WEBSITE that loads a PROFILE section which is a separate SWF file.Inside the profile.swf, I have the sub nav button 'experience' dynamically pulling a text file into my text box.If you view the 'profile.swf' file alone, the text is being pulled fine.However, If you view the MAIN FLASH WEBSITE, choose 'Profile' link, then 'Experience' Link. The text box DOES load the text, but you can't SEE it. You can tell it is loading the text files because the scroll bar becomes active, and I can cut and paste the invisible text into my notepad program.Why is my text invisible?Here is my Sub navigation code for the 'experience' button located on 'profile.swf':

Nov 6, 2005I need a AS that will load n number of variables from a txt file, which will have string values assign to them, and then in fla, it will fade in - wait - fade out in a dynamic textbox all of them one by one, and at the end it will loop it. A problem occurred when they used an ampersand symbol in the text field. Is there a way around this? I haven't seen a way to escape it that works.

IE7 gives me the "A script in this file is causing Flash Player 10 to run slowly do you want to abort this script?" It runs fine locally, but when I upload it, it won't work. Apr 21, 2009how work with resizing the width of of a movie clip according to the size of dynamic text inside it. I did it by creating a text field 'myText' and then converted it to a MovieClip symbol and named the MovieClip as myClip. The text in myText is assigned at run-time and its width changes according to the text.
I did it as follows:-
myClip.myText.selectable = false;
myClip.mouseChildren = false;
myClip.useHandCursor = true;
myClip.buttonMode = true;
myClip.myText.width = myClip.myText.textWidth + 5;
On doing this I found the clickable area change according to the size of the text field but the text field doesn't appear at all in the swf.

Oct 9, 2007I have a dynamic text box inside a movieclip that is generating load percentage eg: 40% etc. I have two Scenes, the first scene preloads the entire movie (this works fine, has the numbers plus percentage).
The second scene runs a movieclip preloader (while reusing the same dynamic text box in the same movieclip) - For some reason the % is not showing up after the numbers, I know its working because when I trace what the text is in the dynamic textbox during the script it shows the % sign after the numbers in the output window.This also occurs with all the other punctuation glyphs I try, not just the % sign...

And the text changes - so its being targeted. I want to change the format of the text so I thought.

But, its doesn't work.
It says "ReferenceError: Error #1037: Cannot assign to a method setTextFormat on flash.text.TextField. at index001_fla::MainTimeline/overHandler()"
