ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading XML Image Gallery Into Flash
Jun 18, 2008
I made a scrolling image gallery following the XML photo gallery tutorial found on this site and it works fine on its own. But when i load the .swf file into another flash file using a holder, it loads but it doesn't scroll anymore; its just a static image. I tried turning it into a MC and placing the MC into my flash but have the exact same problem.
I have a problem about loading external image gallery. the gallery loaded, but the image won't show...my files is like this : main.swf <---load--- pict.swf(is a gallery) <---load-- images.jpg.url...
loading new xml data into a already xml populated image gallery.
So I have my gallery set up so it calls some xml when it first loads. What I would now like to do is load different sets of images via a different xml sheet via the click of a button.
So for example the loaded gallery already has all thumbs loaded and user can click on them to view the full size image. So next instead of the user having to close this gallery to allow a new gallery to open with a different set of pictures I would just like to have a button. This button will unload the existing thumbs from the gallery and load in new ones from a different xml file.
ActionScript Code: var xmlPath:String = "pictures.xml"; var xml:XML;

I have a photo gallery on my site that is generated using AS3 and XML. Everything works great but I'd like to have the images that relate to the first thumbnail appear automatically when the movie loads.
Here's my code: Code: Select all//DEFINE ARRAYS var thumbnailsArray:Array = new Array(); var productDescriptionArray:Array = new Array(); var magazineArray:Array = new Array(); var mediumArray:Array = new Array(); var largeArray:Array = new Array(); [Code] .....
I have followed Kirupa's XML Image Gallery tutorial. Before you ask, I have double checked my code. When I hit command+enter (mac) to preview it, everything works just fine. XML loads the correct images. My problem is when I publish it and upload it via FTP to my web server, ONLY the first image displays. When I click the next button, the first image fades out, but then it fades back in. The captions and image numbers change (like they're supposed to), but the image does not.
It remains on the first image. I know that it is able to access the XML because it loads the first image specified in the XML. That image was never imported into the Flash document. I have double checked my paths, too. All of the paths are correct. Also, I'm sure that it's not accessing a local file, because for each path, I specify the full URL, such as "[URL]", rather than just "/images/image.jpg". What do I need to do to fix this? You can see what I'm talking about by going to [URL] and clicking on "photo+art".
I've made a gallery slideshow before but wasn't as intuitive looking back at it now and I want to start fresh on this new project. I would like to convert a jQuery lightbox style gallery into a flash XML based AS3 image gallery with categories. I don't want to code the FLA, I want separate AS files.
This is a school project for my website. I would use jQuery and I have more experience with it but this project needs a flash component. I'm just not sure where to start and looking for some advice on how and where I could find resources. I want it to be minimal as I can make it;
- 8 thumbnails to a "page/section" with more flowed into page 2 or 3 etc. (or a srcoller)
- a few buttons for categories
- images fading in full size with a description when hovered over and a close button
- preloader (simple bar)
Esentially something like this > http:[url].........works which is using http:[url].... for the thumbnails. That might be ambitious but I'd suffice with a simple fade effect.I've downloaded some galleries out there but most of the code is messy or outdated.http:[url]... this is alright, but all the code is done in the FLA. I might break it into AS files but it depends.
i am loading all thumbs and images in a container on a single frame using action script..but the size of the swf becomes 1.2 mb so i want to add a loader to it...the loader i am trying to add counts the frames but my file has just one frame so the loader doesnot show up..
here is the script of my gallery..and the timeline has just one frame...
How would you defer loading of other graphics on the page until after the images in a Flash gallery's images.xml file are finished loading?Is there any way to detect for this, or would I only be able to check if the flash swf object is finished loading? I'm pretty sure the swf object would be loaded/ready as with document.getElementById('flashobject').onload = function(){}; before the corresponding images have loaded though, instead of after.
Just wondering if anyone knows about the project I am trying to start, uploading images from flash using php is fine but wondering if anyone knows how to create dynamic xml from php and it takes all the image names from the same folder where those images have been uploaded. So we can load all the images in image gallery through xml into flash.
I've completed my XML-driven image gallery, however upon live testing I'd realized I made a rookie mistake and not put some kind of placeholder "loading" movie clip loop while the thumbnails and subsequent full-size images are being loaded. The images will randomly appear when loaded and I would like to be able to insert a placeholder movie clip while they load, and swap them up with the thumbnails/images after it has been loaded. The placeholder movie clip is in my library (loadingLoop), but I'm having problems getting it to work correctly.
Below is the original function that processes the XML and adds the thumbnail images; this is where I'm trying to insert the placeholder movie clip per XML child node (every attempt I've made just keeps throwing more errors, so I've omitted my attempts to avoid confusion), and I've attached the XML file for testing.
i am trying to add extra images to the photo gallery attached. I would have thought it is easy and it seems so. I add an extra image to the gallery. I publish it. The html file shows the extra image in the gallery but the swf doesnt. driving me crazy, cant work it out?
I am creating an image gallery and the images change but change right back to the original image. I had it working yesterday but today it doesn't work.
I am loading images of different size and then images are scaled and border is drawn for each image as shown in below link,[URL]... I want that border of images to be of the same width and height and for that I need to find out the max width and height size image before loading all the images. Is there any way that I can know the width and height of an image before loading it completely?
[code]This script is for a loader image gallery in flash, as part of a class assignment. What happens is that in flash, when I open the swf file, the initial image (images/nair_evanescentautumn.png) will load fine. However, clicking on any thumbnail image (including the exact same images/nair_evanescentautumn.png), will result in an error saying the file cannot be found.I cannot figure out why it is doing this... I've tested it over. Clicking each thumbnail does go to the correct position in the two separate functions. All said full-size image links are in the folder images/, and replacing the initial loader image will load the other images in place of the default one. However, clicking on any thumbnail still results in URL not found, even though everything works correctly.[code]Before anyone asks why I'm putting this kind of content into a flash site, I'm not--this is only for a class assignment. I'm just trying to figure out why my images aren't loading right when I'm only doing the exact same thing in the functions as I am on the other pages.Of note, commissions.swf has the exact same feature, just with swf files loaded instead, and it works perfectly fine. home, traditional, digital, and photography all have the image gallery, and all have the same issue (I only referenced one page because if I can fix one page I should be able to fix all of them).As for the artworks, they are all my fiance's. The website design was built for her, and I used the website design for this project because I didn't want to have to build an entirely new interface design. Since the project also required a gallery, I felt that this interface would work just fine.
I have a movie gallery (they are basically images with a fading effect), and I got it setup, and working, but I cannot get right the action script to make the first movie load when the page opens. The only thing I get to see is the scroll bar with the thumbnails, and after I click on the images I can see the full size. I would like the full size image of the first thumbnail to show up as default when the page opens. And then, if you click on the thumbnails the other images will appear.This is the action script for a typical Thumbnail (setup as a button):
on (release) { loadMovie("clip0.swf", "_root.screen"); }
anyone know if actionscript can do this kind of effect ? any similar tutorial i can find? or i can modify from market existing third party software? [URL]..
I used the Photo Gallery using xml and Flash tutorial and created a nice gallery with thumbnails I increased the size to accommodate a 800x533px size picture however when the images are imported they are distorted to a size that looks to be around 900x400px I am using flash 8.
I have a simple Flash gallery which reads from a xml file. Everything worked well but suddenly one of the images (image10.png) doesn't show up, all I get is an 'X'. All the images are in the correct folders as I haven't moved them. It's the second item that doesn't work (in bold).
last step in my interactive CD project.The photos in my xml photogallery swf work fine. However, when I load the xml photogallery swf into my index swf, the pictures stop loading after picture 1.AS 3.0 code for xml photo gallery swf (adapted from the tutorial)
Code: import flash.events.MouseEvent; function loadXML(loaded) {
I just created my first website, but one of my AS3 XML image galleries are not working properly. I followed the XML Grid gallery tutorial at to "T" and am using it on 5 of my pages, however, the "PRODUCTS" will not load the "full" images.The thumbnails load, they decrease opacity when moused over, but once you click on one, the progress bar loads till complete and just stops. This problem, however, only occurred after I hosted it on When I test it (Ctrl+Enter) in Flash, test it in Dreamweaver or open the .html of it from my computer, everything works perfectly. It is only after I FTP upload all the files to iPage's server that this problem occurs. Is it a problem with Ipage?Are too many images trying to load??Furthermore, for some odd reason the 1st image, 4th row down on the "Products" page DOES load the full image but the others still dont and I can't for the life of me figure out why
I've finally finished my flash xml gallery, and have tested it to my complete satisfaction using dreamweaver. When I do a preview from dreamweaver, or just open up the gallery html file from explorer the swf loads the xml file and all the images flawlessly, everything works. However when I move the site for testing on my mac laptop it loads the xml file but not the images. When I upload it to my test website it doesn't even load the xml file. I just copied the root folder over in all cases I dont understand why it wont work. You can see it here: [URL]
Could this be some export setting I am using incorrectly? Why would it work locally on a windows machine, and not locally on a mac or online on either. I tried re exporting the swf after saving it as CS3 from CS4 and changing the local playback security to only allow network. So now it loads the xml data online but not locally. Thumbnails still aren't showing up online though.
I am attempting to create a basic Flash website to promote myself online. To do this I require a scrolling gallery of images on one of my pages.I have found and implemented a tutorial online allowing me to have a scrolling gallery, but what I need to do is include it within the rest of the pages I have created. I don't know how the code I have used for the scrolling gallery works, to allow me to use it, inside the root level page.The script says:
_root.onEnterFrame = function() { if (_root._yMouse<594) {[code]....
What I need to do, is put the scrolling gallery feature 1 level INSIDE the site, instead of on its "root". When saving the scrolling gallery feature as a movie clip, I coped the frame it was on and pasted that on the "images" page, within the navigation bar movie clip where the other page contents reside. ie Contact, Animations, Intro, etc.When doing this, the gallery is present on the page once the "images" tab is clicked on the navigation, but only the scrolling thumbnails are present on screen, and not the blown-up main image each of the thumbnails refers to, so when clicked on, no main image appears.But when placed on the "root" or outer-most layer of the site, the gallery works fine.I really need to know how to include this scrolling gallery feature WITHIN the navigation bar with the other pages, how can I do this? What actionscript could I use as a replacement to the "_root", to make the gallery function correctly?
I'm looking for a non-commercial solution / tutorial (AS3, MySQL, PHP, XML) that would point me in the right directon to control the quality of uploaded images.
Im just about to make a site in Flash which will have an image gallery. This will need to include a CMS for the images. Anyone know the best approach in order to make the images as easy as possible to update?
I need to create an image gallery that the clients can log in and click on photos to add them to favorites. I was wondering how to create this favorite system or if there are any galleries with it?
