ActionScript 2.0 :: Random Movie Placement - Empty Fields
Nov 27, 2003
Picture the scene, my trees are grown, the sun is in the sky and the birds are singing, as you move the mouse over one of the empty fields, tiny pretty flowers begin to grow where your mouse has been.

My goal here is to place this movie clip randomly along the x axis, play it and then repeat. This is what I've got so far:[code]It places the movie clip at random location every time a new frame is played but I want it to play the whole movie clip and then replace it.
I have a clip in the library with the linkage ShootingStar, and I need this to be randomly placed all over the stage at intervals of between 0.1 and 1 second, as well as random sizes between 100% and 300%. And having a random tint to it.
I have an array with 8 items, and I want them to be randomly placed on the stage with each load, or when a "shuffle" button is pressed. Just a simple puzzle where the pieces are to be scrambled and then dragged and dropped by the user.Current code that isn't working:
Code: var myArray:Array = new Array(); myArray[0] = puzzle1;
It is a simple matter to place your object in a random place on the stage and not have it hanging over the edge, like so:[code]But for some reason I am having great difficulty coming up with a solution to how the random placement might work once the object has been rotated. and the registration point is no longer in the global upper-left corner. This might be easy if the rotation was a fixed # but I am rotating randomly along the whole spectrum.
I need to randomly position identical symbols in a movie - I have found a way I can do it in the main timeline using this code:
n = 10; while (n>0) { duplicateMovieClip ("/r1", n, n); n = n-1;
[Code]....
The problem is that the _x and _y parameters only seem to work in the main timeline, and I need the whole thing to be self-contained inside a movie clip, so that I can easily paste it into other Flash movies (about 75 of them). Is it possible to specify a random location inside a MC?
I want to load a random movie clip from the library to an empty clip on the stage called (bg_graphics). the clips in the library are called (green, blue, yellow).
I'm creating a simple quiz which has 3 questions. Each question has an input text field next to it for the user to type their answer. There is also one submit button underneath the 3 questions.
What I'm needing is some actionscript so they can only progress to the next frame by clicking the submit button once ALL 3 text fields have text in it. It doesn't have to detect any specific text, just that there is something put into each one. If there hasn't been, then it'll pop up with text asking them to complete all the questions first.

what I want after pressing the button (calculate_btn)is to get thees values entered from these input texts into 3 vaiables.
var $money var $percent var $years
and check if the inputs are numbers only not string not empty. I tried to convert the inputs to numbers to insure that they are numbers without making a function to check the inputs but always I get NaN when I entr value like 444bb;
ActionScript Code: error_txt.text = "Enter some values to calculate your loan"; //--------Make the button listener----------//[code].........
When you make a movie clip, and have it open, does it have a physical 'place' on your pasteboard or main timeline?
For instance, when I test my 'scene' (as opposed to movie) my clip will be out of whack and off to the side of my movie viewer.
Then when I place the clip in my main timeline, i have to monkey around with it to get it to line up. I get a circle and a blue line at the top, but not sure what that space corresponds to.
Is there a good tut out there for movie clip creation and placement? It feels really sloppy the way Im doing it.
Still plugging away, but I've run up against a problem that seems like it should be easy to fix, if I only knew how. Made a hairline for use in drawing lines with attachMovie(). Wanted to test it by making a "crosshair" at (100,100). You'd think:
Currently I have sketched out this small code just to see how it might work. Each text box receives a seperate word one is the game word/the other is a hint. I was hoping to have a new one appear each time I tested the Movie but I cannot seem to get it.
import flash.net.URLLoader; import flash.events.Event; var allWords:Array;
I have 20 external .swfs im trying to load into 20 blank movieclips . i am trying to load them randomly into each blanck movieclip without the external .swf's duplicating.
so far I have this code
[Code].....
Im trying to load all the movieclips with all the external .swfs without any of the .swf's repeating.
What I'd like to do is have a checkbox, that when it is checked it loads a movie into an empty movie clip, and when it is unchecked, it loads a different movie into the empty movie clip.Also if possible I'd like to find a way to output to a variable whether the same checkbox is checked or not. And send the info from the variable in an email.
trouble getting a movie to load in an empty movie clip. I am hoping I'm missing something simple.I have a button with the instance name SPS_btn on a layer I've called buttons.Below the button layer i've got a layer called movie clips that contains an emptymovie clip called mainStage_mc.I want to load a .swf into into mainStage_mc. both the buttons and their actions occur on the first frame.I have used this code but it not working.
on (release) {loadMovie (new002.swf, mainStage_mc);
I just get a blue area but the movie does not load. I can run the movie fun locally by clicking on new002.swf file.i also tried the behaviors panel, which produces this code but it also doesn't work:
on (release) {loadMovie ("new002.swf",mainStage_mc); //load Movie Behavior if(this.mainStage_mc == Number(this.mainStage_mc)){[code]........
for some reason it will load if i use loadMovieNum () but the registration point is in the top right corner and i don't want that.What's the best way to debug this?When i use test movie the output window dosen't show an error but something's wrong.how can I test if is a path problem? A problem with the loaded movie or a problem with something else? the movie new002.swf is 393KB. I tired making a smaller 2kbmovie using the code above and it wouldn't load either.
im playing with the load random movie (but loading a random xml file instead) based on the wonderful tutorial from front page and was wondering whether anyone can show me the work around/upgrade to AS2 for this bit of script since im publishing to Flash 8 /AS2 and it doesnt work:
I have a list of 99 item (something like a phone book) and I will like to sort them in different method. Part of the 99 item might be empty, so the requirement is to move the empty field behind the sorted data in every sorting behavior, here the code we have so far:
load a .swf into an empty movie clip. I've given the empty movie clip an instance name of "myContainer". This is the code i've got now on a button (which doesn't have an instance name), which doesn't work:
on (press) { myContainer.loadMovie("BVLibrary_Branding.swf"); }
I created a movie clip of a photo gallery that works fine until I test it and get to the frame that the movie clip is on. After doing so, the movie clip stays throughout any other page I click on. I can't get the removeMovieClip function to work.
Here's the code I have:
this.createEmptyMovieClip("container",1); var imagesNumber:Number = 5; for (i=1; i<=imagesNumber; i++) {
I have two images pulling though an empty movie clip, using the actionscript below. I can't seem to figure out how to position both of them, could anybody shed some light on this? I'm using AS3.
At the _root I have an instance using an empty clip named mainPageEmptyClip. Inside of that, are various other movies.
Now, at the _root there is a menu which, when clicked, should access one of the layers within the empty clip's content.
The problem here is that I can't discern what the target would be to actually access the clip. The action worked fine before I implemented the empty clip, but now it won't work any longer.
I've tried using the target tool built into FlashMX, but it doesn't list any of the instances withing mainPageEmptyClip - that's as far as it goes. I've tried entering in what would seem to be the path, based on the instance names of subordinate movies, but it does me no good - I'm continually given the error of Target Not Found.
I'm trying to load images into a row of images. Each image is a different width. Heres the code so far:
Code: var xPos:Number = 0; for (y=0; y<5; y++) { var container:MovieClip = this.holder.createEmptyMovieClip("picholder"+y,y); container.loadMovie("mypic.jpg"); container._x = xPos; xPos += container._width; }
The problem at the moment is that the container._width property is reading 0 so all the images are loading on top of each other. This is the same with "picholder"+y. If I set the xPos value to say 100 then it works fine. I'm guessing its something to do with the fact that the loadMovie happens after the var container is defined. Whats a way around this?
Also just while I'm posting whats the correct syntax for something like this:container.loadMovie("mypic" + (y) +".jpg");
wanted to load an swf into an empty movieclipthen modify the empty movieclips xy scale, and xy positionrecall doing something like that b4, and it seemed like a simple enough taskbut for some reason this doesnt seem to wanna obey me at the moment
