View 1 RepliesI cannot use the following in my ActionScript due to conflicts with the host application:
_level0
_root
_parent references
On a pop-up box I have a close button with an absolute reference: closeBtn.onRelease = function{ unloadMovie("_level0.Page_1.holderBox");} Is there another way to make this work without using _level0 or _parent? I've read that it is possible to use a global variable on the main timeline and ref that, but cannot get that to work.
I want to know the difference between [object main timeline], stage and root in as3.
View 1 RepliesWhat is the difference between these three:

this.parentApplication;
this.parentDocument;

Is there a way to tell flash to instantiate a Stage subclass called "TheStage" instead of the default Stage class as root/parent of my document class?
public class TheStage extends Stage{
//code
}
Then when I do "DisplayObject.stage" I want it to return the instance of TheStage instead of the default Stage insteance. I want to do this so that I can override the addEventListener method of the Stage class. So if I call DisplayObject.stage.addEventListener I can execute my own code routine. Is that possible and how?
I am able to access main root from an external swf by doing this:
MovieClip(root.parent.root)
but how to avoid getting an error when testing external swf alone? Is there any try catch system I can do to avoid thoses errors?
how do i retrieve the top level parent of an xml node in actionscript please?

I have a main flash movie that loads three external movies, the external movie buttons don't work when loaded onto the stage.
In each external swf thats loaded, the button actionscript is in this form:
HTML Code:
on(release) {
_root.gotoPage(2);
}
And this works when each swf is loaded stand-alone. But not when loaded as an external swf.With the numbers ranging from 1-19 as far as pages. How should I edit the code so that these buttons work when loaded externally?
Code:
on(release) {
_parent.gotoPage(2);
}

I am trying to create a global function to reuse repetitively. It worked until I moved the function to the external .as file. The problem is with MovieClip(root) and MovieClip(parent). They do not work and cause errors.

I'm switching from as2 to as3 and everything was going swimmingly with my new site until i tried to use a _root call to a function on the main timeline by a loaded movieClip that is loaded nested into 2 other movieclips. the movieClip needs to tell the _root when it's done playing so the root knows to load the next one in line through a php call. Everything works except for the _root call. In as3 there's no such thing as root anymore so I figured no big deal, i'll just find out what the new thing is and holy crap wtf! I can't figure this out!! I've read from doing stuff like custom eventLisnters (which i am trying now) and casting the root as a movieClip and then I read this whole crazy tutorial on building an event structure and the proper MVC way of coding and blah blah blah ALL I WANT TO DO is tell the _root that the loaded MC has reached the end of its timeline. Basically if it were as2 i could just go _root.loadNext(); and it would work.how to make a loaded MC talk to the _root timeline and call a funciton from there?
View 19 RepliesI'm using a PreLoader as a parent SWF that loads the actual website as a child SWF. In the website SWF, the child SWF, will MovieClip(root) still work and refer to it's own root, or the PreLoader's root? And would I still access the websitite's document class (the child's document class), through MovieClip(root)? What if both files have a document class?So my main question is how do document classes and MovieClip(root) behave in the scenario when you have:
Parent SWF - document class, MovieClip(root)
|
Child SWF (loaded by parent) - document class, MovieClip(root)
I want to know the difference between [object main timeline], [object Stage] and root in as3? I have read from the topic How stage, root, and MainTimeline Fit Together. But I didn't get clearly.
View 3 Repliesim just wondering if theres a way to get the real x and y positions of an object in the real movie ( the root screen) that is locted in another movie
i have an object which is within 2 movie clips, first one and then another , and then my object, now i want to know what the real x and y positions of it is, not the locations realtive to the movieclip it is inside.
I have a MainClass from where I can call Stage. In the MainClass I call another class named Subclass, and in that one I call my ThirdClass. ThirdClass is initialized fine, but my problem appears when I want to call the Stage within the ThirdClass, to align the Stage. When I compile I receive the message: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property align through a reference with static type Class.

I have an swf file, MyRoundButtons, which is a set of radio buttons I built (not components). It works fine, but if I import it into a parent it won't work anymore. I have to write a script to load it into a movieclip, (which I hate, because I'll have a several different swfs to assemble on my final stage. I really want to see them all on the stage together, not just at runtime.)Even when I load it into a clip and the buttons work, however, it doesn't seem to have a separate timeline when double-clicked ,and: I can't make the imported buttons control the timeline of the parent. I defined a test function:
Code: Select allfunction goToNirvana() {gotoAndPlay("nirvana")};
Frame "nirvana," in th parent, has a Trace instruction in it.goToNirvana works on its own in the parent. Now to call the function from within the child:
Code: Select alltv_btn.onPress = function(){
gotoAndPlay("TV");
// That last part triggers the button's down state and sound in the child timeline, in frame "TV."
[code]....
Whether I define that function in the child, the parent, or both, the instruction won't work. Now, I'd prefer not to do the loadMovie thing at all if I can avoid it, I'd rather have fully rendered button clips onstage at authoring for me to arrange and move about, with fully independent timelines right there. But you see what I'm trying to do. I just can't get it done.
I'm trying to resolve an issue that reared it's ugly head yesterday.Frame one of main timeline I have the following code:
Code:
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
[code]....
The newMC doesn't show up.If I add 'parent.' in front of the addChild then it appears.mc_LibItem has a base class of "flash.display.MovieClip" and is exporting for ActionScript and on frame one.For grins I created a new .fla and began messing around with the same addChild idea and it worked.
I created a Sponsorbar which dynamically adds sponsors according a XML script.
ActionScript Code:
for each( var imgPath2:XML in xdata.img )
{[code]...........
[code]All clips are squared.Ok, on the PlayerPlane, there are little soldiers, which have hotkeys. The effect I'm trying to create is I want to position the GameStage so that the currently selected soldier appears in the center of the GameClicker clip.The GameStage is movable by the player (to scan other areas of the map)by holding the CTRL key, so it's easy to kinda lose track of where your players are.I have tried using localTo Global and globalToLocal techniques, but I think I'm lost on the actual math of getting the GameStage to move the correct distance so that the selected soldier is centered to the GameClicker.[code]
View 2 RepliesI got a "preloader" that creates an movieclip and loads an SWF. Now in the loaded SWF i want a close button to go back to the "preloader". The preloader isn't an actuall preloader but some sort of mainclip.Now i tried this:removeChild(MovieClip(e.currentTarget).parent.pare nt.parent)But i get error:ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.at flash.display::DisplayObjectContainer/removeChild()at MethodInfo-6()
View 1 RepliesSituation:
- We have a Flash application located on a SAP EP (let's say ep.x.com)
- We have a SAP ABAP Application (Webservices) on a SAP WebAS
server (abap.x.com)
- Clarification: This is not about Flash islands / but a normal Flash application communicating with WebAS ABAP via WebServices
Problem: Due to the changed security policy in Flash 10 this scenario does no longer work.
- A crossdomain policy file on root level cannot be deployed on root level
- The WebServices http/s headers cannot be modified, since the WebServices are generated by the WebAS IDE.
Comment: Technically there is a way to patch a WebAS ABAP,but this is not a practical / acceptable way in a normal SAP WebAS infrastructure.
Conclusion:- The above scenario (Flash from EP content / WebAS ABAP as backend) is a quite normal scenario in the SAP world.
- SAP / Adobe always features the close relationship between their technologies.
Question:- What could we do?
- How does the Visual Composer works around that problem?
I have a root stage, and a MC that is called from the root stage.Now from that MC, i will called in another MC2, and I wanted to placed the MC in the center of the stage. The reason I could not use normal ADDED_TO_STAGE at MC and define the center is because MC is not place in the exact position of the root stage (as in x, y=0). So if I would target MC2 at MC stage center, it would not be the exact center of the root stage/screen.How can I called the root stage properties rather than adding MC2 into the stage?
View 1 RepliesHow do you tell the root timeline to root.gotoAndStop(2); from the timeline of a movieClip added using addChild?In the maintime line I have
addChild(fade_eng);
and in fade_eng I have the following on frame 20
root.gotoAndStop(2);
this.gotoAndStop(1);
But I am getting 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method gotoAndStop through a reference with static type flash.display:Stage.
I'm currently making a platform game and when the player shoots i want to add the bullets to the stage. The players gun class is in charge of adding bullets. The "players gun" is a child of "players gun holder" which is a child of "player" which is a child of the stage. is there a better or more dynamic way for the "players gun" to add bullets to the stage rather than using parent.parent.parent.addChild (bullet);
View 2 RepliesI'm not really sure about a lot of that stuff and its really holding me back the whole this, root, parent, child stuff and I'm not even really what there called so I can look them up in more detail in Google any can some one provide a few basic tips or links describing them and what they do in AS3
View 10 Repliesif I add a clip to the stage as a child and remove the parent and set the parent equal to null, does the child get collected and removed from memory? What if the child has an image loaded into it as its child?
In my application I'm loading a series of png images as overlays that can be tinted for customizing in this app. When I trace my memory, the basic app idles at 64,000 k. The exact second I load those overlay images it goes up to 205,000k. If I remove those clips and "clear" the stage I should go back down to 64,000 k if everything is removed and collected correctly, right? It's not, it's hanging at 215,000 k. Are my images being cached and that is the reason for the memory staying up? If so, how do I prevent that. Or upon removing the parent of the image how can I un-cache the image.
If a user switches between models and loads several different items then the application actually crashes the Flash environment because of too much memory usage. It also does the same to browsers.
I am trying to access a function that is on my document class for my AS3 project, from a nested class. That is, the Document Class calls Class A which then calls Class B. So I am trying to access a function from Class B, I am trying to use MovieClip(parent).function(); but I am getting error 1120. The MovieClip(parent) (fixed to reflect my document class, etc) works when I try it from other classes but not from this nested class.
View 9 RepliesSimple drag and drop application where mc is dragged out of one parent mc and dropped into another parent mc.All works OK until I added 2 text boxes to the mc's -- one is a non-selectable dynamic text box (a label) which is set by the code, the other is selectable input text that the user can amend.
Finger cursor disappears when user hovers over the section of the mc that contains the text fields (even non-selectable text??) When the user trys to drag the mc by inadvertantly click-dragging anywhere within both text areas it causes this error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.text::TextField@2374a381 to flash.display. MovieClip (same error appears for both text boxes)
The input text box may confuse the user - how do they sometimes click to drag and sometimes click to amend? I need to create an overlay area within the mc that is click-detected for the drag? Here's the relevant bits of code:
var itemArray:Array = [
{iname:"police",ititle:"POLICE OFFICER"},
{iname:"insurance_assessor",ititle:"INSURANCE ASSESSOR"},[code].............
I have a parent swf which loads many child swfs (though only one is displayed at a time). My intention was to use the loaded SWFs document class to retrieve an array of objects to be assigned a tab index, combine this with the parent's own array of objects and apply sequential tab indices to them all. But what happens is actually that the parent's objects are assigned an index, but the external swf is unaffected. In fact, the external swf retains its automatic tab indexing, when I would expect that having set a value for InteractiveObject.tabIndex, automatic tab indexing would be disabled.
I've seen similar tales elsewhere. Most posts I've read are wanting to load an external swf, give it focus and loop through those objects, then close the swf and return to looping through the parent. However I would like loop through all objects as one. including manipulating the focus manager(s), and basically fiddling with every tab-related property I know.
I've struggled with this for a long time and have thrown in the towel. How the heck do you climb the ladder, then go back down again into another clip?
View 2 RepliesI have been using:
yourbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,f);
function f(e:Event):void{
Loader(this.parent).load(new URLRequest("newswf.swf"));
}
which was suggested to me in a different post to target the parent loader class, however i now no longer can reference my preloader in the parent swf (extract from the parent swf):
