ActionScript 2.0 :: Sprite Direction On Key Release?

So I'm trying to make basic sprite control with the keyboard so that he walks right when the right arrow key is down. At the time I'm not worrying about him actually moving, but just the sprites.

Now after I press right once, when I release he stays there. I realize that it's because there's no command to go back to a standing sprite. But when I put that command in, since flash has no key release control, every time you let go of right OR left he always returns to facing right.

So I'm having trouble make him face the way he was walking when you let go of a certain key, but all my attempts have failed.

This is a painfully simple concept and for some reason I can't get my head around it. The basic idea is I want a sprite to come down half way and then if it fails a random check, to reverse direction and move back towards the top.

Code:

So basically the the sprites created, a true/false boolean is made and the Loop function is started. As you can see though, as soon as the sprite starts moving backwards it fails the If statement and starts bouncing back and forth between passing and failing. I've toyed around with putting them in different functions, complex If statements, etc but it keeps coming back the conditions fluctuating back and forth.

Flash :: IDE - Gradiant Fill Direction In One Of Sprite Objects

I can't say that I have played with it much, but I was looking to use a gradiant fill in one of my Sprite objects I created in flash. Seems that the gradiant fill always goes left to right... how can I make it go up and down? I know I can rotate the object, but then I would mess with the x and y scales that would mess me up later down the road. is there a way to change it to vertical fill?

Underlined Text On (rollOver) Is there an action script to do on (rollover) underline text? It would be on a button that would also, on (release) gotoAndPlay a frame. I know you can have a movie with AS like this:

But when I add the on (release) to the movie it doesnt advance the timeline on (release). And when I change the file to a button instead of a movie clip it doesnt do the underline on (rollOver).

i have a scroller developed in as2. it basically scrolls continuously in a direction until the direction of the mouse is changed. the images of course loop in the continuous scroll. now the problem is that for 10-15 photos its ok. but when i feed it with 180 photos, it seems to show only 11. why would this be? any restriction on flash ??

have a ball with the name of mc which can be moved using the keyboard .. when you press the left mouse button shoots the ball, this ball and the other flies in the face where the cursor was in the shot .. but if you move the cursor to another location and shoot a second time then the second ball is also flying in the direction of the cursor and the first ball change direction toward a second shot ..

I'm working on a small application that uses some throw physics to fling items around the stage. Everything is working as it should, apart from when I test it on my touch screen, the throw physics don't work. I've tried all sorts of things, in in those tests noticed that AS2 release and release outside do work on the screen perfectly, whereas mouse up and mouse out do not!

So, is there a way to emulate the AS2 mouse events in AS3, as I have to stick with AS3 this time.

I created a class, extended the sprite class, and now in the constructor I am trying to set the Sprite's width and height properties which are inherited from the DisplayObject. However, after I set this.width and this.height, and print the values, I get 0 for both.

What the heck is going on? When I view the livedocs I see that DisplayObject has width and height listed as public properties. I have been able to instantiate a Sprite directly, and set the width and height after it's been instantiated, so I don't get it.

Flash :: Rotating Sprite Moves The Sprite From It's Original Location

I'm doing a simple rotation on a sprite but there's a weird behavior where the sprite does not rotate around it's top left. I think I'm rotating along the top left of the test class instead of the sprite child. I would like to rotate the rectangle around it's top left corner (kinda like a clock hand). The code is pretty short so I'll let the code + pictures explain my problem:

Then the numericStepper is drawn as if it is squished to 20% its normal height. If I pre-set mySprite width and height before adding the numericstepper, the trace output is 0,0 after adding it and it is not displayed at all. Is there some way I can make the sprite only adjust to correctly fit the numericStepper OR resize it afterwards without distorting the numericStepper component?

Everytime I google this question I see confusing information about masks and blends, none of which seems to directly apply to what I think should be an easy thing... There are three Sprites involved here...the lowest layer sprite is pretty much a background. I want to overlay a translucent Sprite on top of the background and then I want the third, top-most Sprite to act as a hole, so that the area inside the third Sprite is completely transparent, so that the background sprite is completely visible. How would I go about doing this dynamically (i.e. dynamically drawing the masking sprite and hole using the Actionscript graphics calls)?

Ive got a question that feels like it should be easy but I cant figure it out. Suppose I have 2d grid of square sprites on the stage, lets say 20 by 20 (400 sprites). Another sprite moves accross the stage on top of the grid. The moving sprite and the 400 sprites below it share a common parent. So heres the question: How do I find out which of the 400 sprites the moving sprite is currently over? And heres an extra wrinkle: I lied, the sprites are not square they are of differing shapes so I cant do a simple math calculation.

All I can come up with is something like hitTestPoint(), but then I would have to call it 400 times wouldnt I? That is probably the most inefficient way to do things. Is there a function like whatsUnderThisPoint(p : Point) which will return a list of every sprite on the display list that contains p?

I'm making a menu, which moves buttons out of the way for other menu components, and also alternates backgrounds to make way for various external movieclips. So the stack of buttons have various instructions that differ, depending on where they are in the time line at that particular point. Does that make sense? What I'm having problems with is the changing of backgrounds. I have the various options on frames 1-4 on the main timeline. Everything works fine until the movie happens to already be ON the frame it is being told to go to. It gets confused and goes to a different frame instead. How can a tell the button to go to a particular frame on the main time line, but, if it is already on that frame, to do nothing?

It is really nice to see the new text direction for TLF but i have one problem with it.We are trying to localize our flash application using strings. so far we follow the traditional way of translating each string and assign it with ID. Our 2 main languages are English and Hebrew. The problem is that for english we need to use LTR direction while in hebrew it is RTL.in a big flash application were the number of tlftextfields are big it is impossible for us to change the direction for individual tlftextfieldsin .

I need a push in the right direction. I have been programming ActionScript 3 for about a year and am just starting to separate my code out of the Flash using classes and things like that.

Anyways here is the problem. [URL].. Go here and upload an image and notice how when you drag the image a black box still appears to visually show the image is under the Obama logo image. I am trying to figure out how this was accomplished.

First: Is a mask being used to only show the image in that particular area? Or is this an transparent gif above the uploaded image? If a mask is being used then how is the rectangle achieved and how is the drag and drop still working when the mask hides the image?

Second: How is this box effect being achieved? Those are the most important questions. I figured out how to make an image resize using a slider. However I am curious how this guy did the advanced image resizer.

If someone can point me in the right direction as to how this is accomplished that would be great. [URL]..
