ActionScript 2.0 :: Synchronous Movie To Movie Communication?
Oct 29, 2010
Is there any way to do synchronous movie to movie communication (from a loaded movie to a loader in different domains).I need that parent does not trust child but child can trust parent if needed. I can do this in AS3 with sharedEvents, but I haven't found a way to do so in AS2. Has anyone found a way to do this
I've problem with my links page( icons page ). when I click on a button other links page don't remove from others. I used below script for this purpose ( target two movie clips from one line script ) but Im sure my syntax at fault:
I'm currently making an animation which will eventually exceed the 16,000 frame limit (don't ask haha), so, short of making two movies and having to just start up the next one, what is the code for loading a movie? I presume they need to be in the same directory? So basically all I want is on the last frame of the movie the code executes and the second movie file opens up and starts. I guess I'd want the current movie to close, too.
I Have 3 Movies:MAIN.SWF, contains loading movie actions for Nav.swf and Home.swf.NAV.SWF, contains navagation menu loaded on Level 2 in Main HOME.SWF, contains slideshow for home page loaded on Level 1 in Main In NAV.SWF, there is a MOVIE CLIP "graphmc", which contains a BUTTON "graphicbtn", When this button is clicked, I'd like the HOME.SWF (which is loaded into Main.swf on Level 1) to fade out and unload, and load and fade in Graphics.SWF in place of it.
In the code below when I call chkAuthentication function from another function the remoteObj.login (login function in my service file (.php)) is called after the remaining code in that function. i.e., the loginStatus is returned from the function before the result-handler function loginResult is called. but my loginStatus is supposed to be set in loginResult function. It seems that the asynchronous behaviour is the culprit. what should I do in order to get the loginResult function to complete first?
I have a big loop in actionscript that sends lots of data to an url: for(var i=0;i<1000;i++) { var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(); request.url = url; request.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; request.data = data; var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(); loader.load(request); }
The problem is because URLLoader can make only asynchronous calls, it sends all those thousands requests at once which kills webserver. Also it acts a bit strange on top of that. Lets say the loop is running for 5 minutes. For whole 5 minutes there is no requests coming to web server, then at the end they all are sent at once. I already tried everything I could possibly think of (empty loops, callbacks, delays) - nothing works. All requests are sent at once no matter what. How to make requests synchronous, so it will send one request after another?
I need a Synchronous loader for my AIR application.The URLLoader class does not meet my needs because of its asynchronous nature.It continues the execution of code. I need to stop the code until the loader loads the Html text.
I am creating a full site in flash. The main movie has an empty movie clip in the middle of the movie to load external movies as the user clicks on the links. Everything has worked good so far as the linking has only gone 1 level deep. However, when I created a new external movie, and had buttons on it for another external page, but yet to open in the main movie, I can't get anything to work. Example.... In the main movie, the user clicks on the archive link, and the external archive movie is loaded into the main movie. Now, on this archive movie, there is a button on it that links to a another movie (say text effects.swf). However, when they click this button for text effects, I can't get it to load into the main movie clip and replace the archive movie that was currenlty there.
Web service calls are asynchronous in flex, but I wanted to wrap a web service call in a class to provide synchronous encapsulation. Something like the below - the user could call getMyMethodResult and get the result returned by the web service. I expected the thread that recieved the soap response would populate the variable _result and mean that getMyMethod would, after a time, find _result is not longer null. But it doesn't! Can anyone explain why this does not work?[code]
I'm using flex4 and actionscript, and need to treat an event in a synchronous mode. Is it possible that? More exactly, i want to execute some queries in a database, and need to be synchronously.
Is there a way to have a synchronous call to a URL to retrieve the HTML code? If not, is it possible to turn an asynchronous call into a synchronous one using some trick? I can't believe Adobe wouldn't implement this option. I tried looping until the result is back but then the status function never fires making my loop infinite.

I'm a ColdFusion developer and recently started working on a project in Flex. I am getting more and more frustrated with AS and Flex lately. It seems that whatever I'm trying to do is either really hard or impossible while it usually can be done with one line of code in ColdFusion. I'm still learning these languages and I'm sure my lack of knowledge is the reason but for some reason I can't get ahead with my project. It looks like the learning curve is much steeper than it should be.

Anyways, here's my code for testing this functionality. The main application file looks like this:
This works OK except the function returns false before the HTTP call returns its result. If I un-comment the while loop the onStatus function will never be called and therefore end up with an infinite loop. Not sure why this happens.
I have small Flex web based util with single button. On this button click a request is sent to server and the response must be read in the same call.This is important not to wait for response with event handler (which is trivial).Basically this is synchronous call.I am ok with blocking ui and so on.
A simple piece of code that should trace [code] and I get something completely far away from that,[code]Is the trace function that bad? that slow? is it the fact that passing an argument to the function take so much time compare to the other one?is there something I can do to avoid this type of weirdness ?(For the record, my project is not to trace {rien, done and test}... I have 15k lines of codes that react completely differently if I compile them with "Omit trace statements" or not.
I'm trying to use the scroll pane component for the first time, and I've spent most of the day getting nowhere. Based on my experience with other components and with loading content into movie clips, I expected that I would point my scroll pane to its content and be off and running, but that hasn't happened.
I have a label I am referencing form a movie clip inside the movie clip which contains the "label_2." Here is the code I used: MovieClip(parent.parent).gotoAndPlay("return_2"); Now I need to reference a instance name of a movie clip in side the same scene.
It's me again and I'm running into a problem. So, I have this movie clip that is nested inside multiple movie clips. I want to tell Flash to perform an action when that movie clip hits another movie clip in the main timeline. It's just collision detection for a game using the hitTestObject code. I was thinking of using MovieClip(root), but that won't work since it's nested so much.
how to imitate a reflection of a movie clip in a "mirror." I don't know if I should have the initial movie clip on custom cursor or have it set to drag... but either way I don't know how to make the second clip the "reflection follow along. Obviously it would need to follow at a slightly offset pattern so that you would be able to see both clips (or majority of them) at the same time. It's for a school project that is due at 9am tomorrow so time is of the essence!!
I have made a number of Flash banners and I save them and everything is good but when I open them, some of the movie clips have reverted to a previous state. So I need to resize and redo thsoe movieclips. I make one banner and then save as new file and resize it. It is really annoying.. I am on P.C. and have all the current updates installed.
The movie was designed in several flash files, each has been combined into a single movie clip and then all the movie clips have been moved into the master document.
Each movie clip is on a single slide.
They play through and when a clip reached the end I have used the actionscript root.gotoAndPlay(x) where x is the slide number of the next clip in the sequence as such my timeline looks like this[code]...
I am making a flipping page book in flash and have had to create sections in different movies because it kept crashing when i tried to have all the pages in the same movie. I have 3 movies 'page flip4', 'pageflip4-2', and 'page flip 4-3' . I have used the code below to go (flip bacwards) from 'page flip4-2' to the frame label ''backflip'' in 'page flip4'..This works fine
Code: on (press) { loadMovieNum("page flip4.swf", 1); }
how to stop a single movie clip in flash and other movie clips still looping. I tried stop(); and myclipname.stop(); both are not working. I attached a simple file,
I'm not sure how to describe what I'm seeking, but basically I have a movie loaded in a clip and when the user clicks a button, I want the loaded movie to perform some kind of action (fade out or whatever) while the new movie is loaded.
I modified the loadBar from one of the popular preload scripts out there. What I am making is a progressbar, sorta like the ones you see in movie previews. But it doesn't seem to o work quite right. Here's what I have: interface.swf - dynamically loads the movie.swf's into itself and will control the movie (when I get around to it). it has the loadBar object
