ActionScript 2.0 :: Textfield In Bottom Clip Still Selectable!?

I have 2 clips sitting on each other which can be tabbed between via swapDepths(). The initial 'underneath' clip has one large textfield/box of type 'input'. For some reason when you mouse over the upper clip in runtime (which has NO textfield) the cursor is coming up. Like as if it is selecting the textfield in the underneath clip. This shouldnt happen!!!!. Ideally users should only be able to select and enter data into the input field when that Mc has been tabbed and is at the top.
I did try making a function to turn the 'selectability' off when the input clip is at the bottom, but this of course doesnt work on textfields of type input

OK, I thought, I'll just set textField.selectable=false right after I've created the text field.

I'm working on a simple chat application in Flash / AS3. There's a Chat input box, a Send button, and a TextField where the contents of the chat input box appear after the message has been sent.By default, when you add text to a TextField, the text appears at the top, and works it's way down to the bottom. I would like to do (something close to) the opposite: Have new messages appear at the bottom of the TextField, and old messages move up to the top as new messages are added.

Padding left can be done by TextFormat.leftMargin. And padding right can be done by TextFormat.rightMargin.
But there is no topMargin or bottomMargin property in TextField or TextFormat.
How can I do padding top and bottom?
Example code of left and right padding(margin) of TextField:

I want to create a textfield that is either N number of pixels from the bottom of the stage or 90% from the top of the stage.
Basically i want the textfield to always appear near the bottom of the stage. What property of the TextField() object do I configure to achieve this?

ive been trying to get a mouseover working but im having some trouble.
I need it so when i mouseover a movieclip text appears in a textfield at the bottom of the stage.
also when i click the mc the text stays there as im dragging it into the correct location.

The following code blocks create a movie clip 20px high and align it to the bottom of the stage (I add 100px to stageHeight because by default it traces 300 instead of 400). Regardless, both code blocks work when tested in Flash.In HTML however, only the first code block works.The second code block produces a blank HTML page. The second block is so that I can change the footer's height and still have it sit at the bottom of the stage...Considering "footerY" traces 380px, I have no idea how the two code blocks are so different that one HTML page makes the clip visible and the other doesn't.

My movie clip is not bottom aligned when window is resized. I noticed that everything works when I delete the line which tells the stage to not scale. PHP Code: //Stage.scaleMode = "noscale"; But I need to keep that line because I don't want my swf to scale. My question is how can I resolve the issue with the bottom align of my mc? I already have addListener but seems it does not work when the "noscale" line presents.

I am trying to design a very basic flash game. The basis of which is that there is a slider at the bottom and objects fall from the top and you have to avoid them. However, if the object lands on the slider, it also has to become part of the slider and so the area of the slider increases. I am unsure of how to code this last bit as the properties of the slider must change.

I've got a MovieClip on the MainTimeline: mc_back I want to dynamcially add textfields to it:
txt:TextField = new TextField();
txt.Height = 20;
txt.Width = 60;
txt.text = 'This is Some Text'
mc_back.addChild(txt);
It's not working. No errors, no nothing, but the textFields don't show up when I run it.

been working in Flash using AS2 and loading external XML data into the movie. I am able to load the data into in Flash and parse it, but I haven't been able to figure out how to load the names of buttons from separate nod values into a textfield.Unfortunately, I dont feel I know AS3 well enough and am a little bit rusty on my AS2.I created a movie clip which holds the dynamic textfield and placed 30 instances on the stage. Each instance is successively named "cityName[i]" where i is a number from 1-30. I've tried setting the instances as both buttons and movie clips. I also tried setting both the .text and.htmlText attributes, but neither works. Ive embedded the fonts on the dynamic text field. My program is enable user to choose movie with click on any radio button. Then the movie will store in the array. then the contain in the array will be loaded. Now i would like save the choice of user in a array and after that the program will trace the arrayand load the swf files that choose by user.User can choose as many choice as they want.
My problem is
1. when click, how the swf files save in array
2. there are the "next" button to let user click and proceed to view their next choice.The "nexScene" and "nextFrame' is not i want.I m seeking any opinion.

why are the dynamic textfields selectable? The textfield is inside a movieclip. Once the clips are attached, why can they not act like buttons?

I searched and searched.Anyway, I have a swf sitting in a layer above html text. It's set to wmode transparent, and looks fine. it stays small until rolled over, then the buttons slid out as expected. However, when the swf buttons are still hiding, the html text in the area that the swf buttons will eventually occupy is not selectable when directly clicked.
