ActionScript 2.0 :: Why Is A New MovieClip Not Being Created
Sep 5, 2006
this should be a pretty simple one. I am trying to dynamically generate a movie clip, attach a movie clip from the library and then animate a tween but for some reason, even though the name is being generated dynamically to be different every time and each new MC is put on a different depth, the first movie clip disappears once a new one is generated. Here's my code:

In part of my actionscript i'm using: thumbnail_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("t"+k, thumbnail_mc.getNextHighestDepth()); to create a seperate movieclips for ewach image in my xml file. How would I then attach another movieclip to each of the newly created ones? ie thumbnail_mc.t0, thumbnail_mc.t1, thumbnail_mc.t2... is there a way to do it automaticall7y or do i have to assign it to each one individually? "thumbnail_mc.t"+k.attachMovie obviously doesn't work

var firstTestImage:Loader = new Loader();
firstTestImage.load(new URLRequest("testImage1.png"));[code]............
Now I want the movie clip to have an eventlistener that will trace when clicked:

I have two character to choose from, so I created two movieClip to contain the character max and luna. When I choose the desired one, it's added to a hero MovieClip. It works, the hero acts as a container and it is referred for the movements by the keyboard event. Now I want to target hero.character.gotoAndPlay for the animation in the timeline of the character movieClip in the Main class, but I can't do that. I tried to trace the instance character.name but it won't do the trick it throw the same error :
TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties. at Main/fl_MoveInDirectionOfKey()

For AS 3
I have a class which crate a panel with close button. and i create an instance of this class like this
function _smallThumbClick(evt:MouseEvent):void {
var _popup:Popup=new Popup( square.width ,evt.currentTarget.y, evt.currentTarget);
addChild(_popup);
}
and this mouse event from the thumbnail(suppose), so if i click on the thumb it will create popup. so i want to close all other or previously opened pop window.
How do u get the popup class object to close from another class..
or is there any alternate method for detect instance of the movieclip or class..

I have a horizontal scroll bar that I need to appear to loop around continuously. I've managed to get it moving on its own since the last time I posted, however the loop is proving more difficult.
The move function is here:
Code:

lst.onEnterFrame = function () {
var speed:Number = -1;
this._x += speed;

How do I put a rollover on a dynamically created movieclip?
I have several movieclips being placed inside a container movieclip and I need them to have onRollOver, onRollOut and onRelease events. The way I usually target and do this...
_root.mcContainerName.mcName.onRollOver = function() {
_root.mcContainerName.mcName.gotoAndStop("over");
}
...does not seem to work for whatever reason. However, if I put a named instance of the movieclip on the stage myself and target it in exactly the same way (with similar syntax), the rollover works fine.

wrote a couple of small games using AS 2.0. One of the things I found easiest about AS 2.0 is that a MovieClip created using _root. attachMovieClip() inside of one function was accessible to every other function. For instance:
Code:
function AddClip() {
TheClip = _root.attachMovie("Object", "TheClip"+ClipCount, _root.getNextHighestDepth(), {_x:30, _y:30})
}[code]....
This causes an error, because the MovieClip variable was declared inside of a function and when the function ended, the MovieClip variable was erased. Is there any way of doing this without declaring the MovieClip variable outside of the function? I want to be able to create an unknown amount of these movieclips on the fly, so I can't just declare them outside of the function.

how do I completely remove a movieclip that is created as a new class.I have an event listener that does a removeChild like this
e.target.parent.removeChild(e.target);
is this enough or do I have to 'null' the object? I can't just do 'e.target = null' because the property is read only. Will the internal garbage collection do the rest for me if I have no references somewhere else?

As the title suggests i want to apply physics (gravity mainly) to a line drawn with the curser using the createEmptyMovieClip method.Below is the code in the main frame (sorry its a bit long), what I'm trying to do is make something like crayon physics (i know it will be difficult).So far i can draw lines and make certain objects ( a ball for example) be affected by gravity, but when I try to make the drawn lines be affected by gravity it stuffs up.he first line drawn is produced in the wrong position, (it should be at mouse point but isn't) and you can't draw any subsequent lines. This problem doesnt exist when i remove the gravityBasically what i want is that each line that is drawn can have actions assigned to it... (so i can add gravity and unique properties for different line types)
//force settings
//Drawing tools
_global.general = 0x0000FF;

I'm trying to build a Flash-based controller application to go on the web interface for the rack-mounted units which my current employer builds. The interface is defined in an XML file which is parsed and processed when the Flash application is started.
I've created some library symbols which act as various controls - sliders, toggle buttons, etc. I can add these fine to the stage. What I would like to do is group them together in a container of some sort so that I can show and hide them en masse without having to loop through all the controls. All library symbols I'm using are linked to ActionScript classes.
If I use a symbol I created earlier and added to the library as this container, everything works fine and the controls display correctly on the stage.
However, if I dynamically create a MovieClip and use that as the container, it never appears on the stage. The code is identical in both cases except for the class names being used. I am calling addChild() on the MovieClip instance to add the controls to the MovieClip, and then call addChild on the document class to add the MovieClip to the stage. As I mentioned above, this all works perfectly if I use a pre-created symbol from the library as the container.[code]...

I know it is possible to attach a class to a movieclip that exists in the library by checking 'Export for ActionScript' and specifying an 'AS 2.0 class' for that symbol.
I would really like to know if it's also possible to attach a class to a movieclip that was created by using the 'createEmptyMovieClip' method.

There are multiple MovieClips that will be dynamically placed on stage. These MovieClips are coded to be buttons. I'm trying to figure out--when a user clicks on the MovieClip...figure out which object on the flash stage the user clicked on.Inside function toggleClick I put the trace statement: trace("movieClip Instance Name = " + e.target.name);
In the OUTPUT window:
movieClip Instance Name = instance5
movieClip Instance Name = instance12

I have MovieClips on my Flash Stage that when clicked on--they toggle ON/OFF. My goal is that when a user clicks either ON/OFF--then leaves the flash website--another user can visit the site--and see that state of that MovieClip was either left ON/OFF.
I would need a way that when a user toggles ON/OFF--that state is saved in a variable--passed onto PHP--saved in an XML file--and then when that is done--Flash calls a function to update--to read the XML file--see if it needs to update the ON/OFF state of the MovieClip toggle button.
Multiple people would be able to go to this flash site--and toggle (ON/OFF) the objects on the stage. When more than one person is toggling--those people should instantly see objects being toggled (ON/OFF).

How do I access the methods of a dynamically created movieclip/object?
For simplicity sake I didn't post code on how I dynamically created the movieclip. Instead, assume its already created. It is an object. It is called field_2. Below it is referenced by using getChildByName('field_' + field.id);
Check_box_component.as
public var testVar:String = 'test';
public function testReturn()
{
return 'value returned';
[Code]...
When I trace temp.testReturn, why does it show "function Function() {}" instead of "value returned"?
This link below helped me get this to this point.

I'm trying to create a movieclip and load a "frame" image inside of it, then create another movieclip inside of the first, and then load another picture inside of the second. Something like this:
var thumbFrame;
var thumbPicture;
thumbFrame = container_mc.createEmptyMovieClip(thumbFrameName, 1);[code]..........
But it doesn't seem to work the way I want: the "thumbPicture" doesn't appear on top of the "thumbFrame" as I expected... only the "thumbFrame" shows (with it's image succesfully loaded). Am I missing something?
EDIT: If I comment this: //thumbFrame.loadMovie("thumbFrame.png");
The thumbPicture.jpg shows inside of the first movieclip, so maybe the issue is with the .loadMovie?
