ActionScript 2.0 :: _visible.variable Not Updating Correctly?

Feb 28, 2009

I am a little new to actionscript and I have run into a wall that I can't break down. Basically, I am using the _visible. command to turn on and off some overlapping movie objects (it's a complex actionscript button). The actionscript works just fine click on a button and it turns red click on another button and the first button turns black while the latter now turns red. The problem is that something in my actionscript is causing the following to occur. I click the first button and it goes red. I click the second button and it goes read. The first button stays red until I rollover my mouse on the button (I don't have any rollover functions) and all of a sudden it seems to refresh and go back to black as it should have done automatically..

/*
var frameStop:String = null; // stop current external swf movie from playing
var xy:Number = null; //level number of the movie clip to be stopped

ActionScript 3.0 :: Total Variable Not Updating?

Feb 15, 2011

so I've been working on this project that uses about 10-15 frames of AS3. On each frame the 'total' variable is updated (added to). By the end, the user is supposed to be taken to another frame (1 of 2) based on the value of 'total'. I have used the trace() method and up to that point the 'total' variable appears to be updating properly, but then when I get to this page it ALWAYS directs them to frame 18 no matter what their total is. Is there an error in my code? (I assume so lol..)

Code:
stop();
fwdBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClick15);

Flex :: Global Variable - Updating To Current ID

Aug 10, 2011

I am trying to work with a global variable in Flex and it does not appear to be working correctly. In my default mxml file I declare the following
public var appID:int;

This variable keeps track of the session ID across my application for SQL purposes. On another mxml page I call the following code which should update the global variable to the current ID.

// Get the ID
sqlStatement.text =
"SELECT Max(id)FROM applications";
sqlStatement.execute();
var result:SQLResult;
result = sqlStatement.getResult();
FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.appID = result.data[0];

Lastly I run a SQL Update query using the ID as a parameter. My problem is that the FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.appID is always 0, for some reason the global variable never gets updated, I have checked to ensure that result.data[0] is correct but the value never gets passed to the global variable.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Updating A Variable Which Is Held In An Array

May 23, 2011

I'm using the following parallax class, which I downloaded from fuoridalcerchio.net, but it's no longer available:[code]I created a mc container named parallaxContainer, which holds the parallax items, and defined it's class as ParallaxBox. Then, to initialize the class, I used (as per the instructions that once were posted on the site I mentioned):[code]

Right now I have just added one item for testing purposes (bg) and it works perfectly as long as I don't resize the browser window. I'm no programmer, but as far as I can tell, the class adds items to the array "theObjects" using the function addParallaxItem. The first value is the instance name of the object to add, the second is the horizontal range in pixels which the object is allowed to pan (set to 960 since my stage is 960px wide) and the third is the vertical range(which is set to 0). I can't post the link since my post count is less than 50, but the thing is if the browser window is larger than 960px, the "bg" movieclip shouldn't travel 960px to either side to reach the edge. I'm not very good at math, so I don't know how to calculate the new distance it should travel, which should be less. If someone wants to help, I can PM the link so that you can see what I mean.[code]Obviously, even though the value of the variable is updated, it's not passed to the array.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Seem To Pass Variable From Php To Flash Correctly

Jun 22, 2010

I am using CS4 and been learning to code in AS3.0 instead of 2.0. I ran into problem with pass variables from php to flash when I was coding a photo gallery that checks for existing directories. After LOTS of testing, it turns out I simply can't get URLLoader to work correctly. Here is what I have for testing purpose:

[Code]...

I have been looking all over online for working example of pass variable from php to flash in as3.0, but none of them seem to work in my situation.I have tried to remove the '&' in front of name1 as some post has suggested, and flash isn't able to detect the variable anymore. I have no idea why the variable name1 contains more than just the value in $value (e.g. '$value");' ), flash seems to correct everything right after '&'. I used to code with AS2.0 with loadVar and that was totally fine, I just can't get the code working in 3.0.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Variables With _visible?

Jan 5, 2009

I'm writing a script for a form that uses related comboboxes. Depending on which item is selected from the first list the associated combobox will become viewable so they can then choose from the correct list to proceed with the form. I had a working code that had a ton of if then statements but the script becomes rather lengthy and hard to update quickly, so I wrote this to streamline the code. The following is the handler for my combobox.

ActionScript Code:
function comboBoxes() {
if(bldg_list.getSelectedIndex() == 0){
bldg_mark._visible = true; //Indicates required field

[Code]....

The units variable returns the correct data on trace(); But will not reveal the associated combobox. My guess is, because I'm trying to reveal the component with a variable instead of the actual name it doesn't understand. Is this correct? Is there a workaround?

ActionScript 2.0 :: _visible = False Affecting Processor?

Jul 3, 2007

Not having a movie clip on the stage until needed (attachMovie when it's time, and then kill it as soon as it's temporarily of no use).visible = false^ Is there a difference in processor demand? When setting visible to false, it seems to me that a few extra variables would need to be stored for the movie clip..._x, _y, _width, _height, _alpha, etc., etc., etc...but I wasn't sure how Flash goes about handling these things or which was better practice?

ActionScript 2.0 :: _visible = False Versus RemoveMovieClip

Feb 25, 2005

I am just wondering what the differences between these two are. I have an animation that I am trying to make as optimized as possible to get the best possible frame rate. I have clips on the stage that start out visible, but are then set to _visible = false for the remainder of the animation. Basically I am just wondering, is a clip still using cpu power if it is set to invisible? Would it be more optimized to swapdepth the clip to a removable depth, then remove it from the stage with AS?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Rest Of The Planets To Disappear Using The '_visible' Command?

Code:

mercury_btn._visible = false;

ActionScript 2.0 :: Pile Everything Another Same Frame And Change The _visible Of Items When Show Them?

Jul 26, 2005

I discovered _visible. What I can now do is pile everything onther same frame and change the _visible of items when I want them to show. Before, I used to have different items on different frames. And I would move to the frame when I wanted an item to show. Method one is a little bit harder, but once you've done it a couple of times, it becomes easy. And I find it easier and quciker to develop once mastered. The second way, well I kind of thought: maybe this is less processor intensive? Movies are only brought onto screen when they need to appear. Is this true??

AS2 :: IDE - Updating A Slider Bar

Aug 18, 2009

I am just learning AS3, and have no idea whatsoever about the differences between 2 and 3. There is a bit of code from [URL] that I wanted to update to use AS3, but it was written in AS2. Here it is:

[Code]....

I get twelve total errors (there are six buttons with a slider next to them, and there are 2 types of errors). The first is: 1119: Access of possibly undefined property onPress through a reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton. The other is 1120: Access of undefined property _root. The key parts of the code (I think) are the button names, and slider_mc., a little black square that slides up and down the height of the menu. All of the buttons are button symbols, each with a unique name. I read that to fix the 1119 error, I can convert them to movie clips, but then they no longer function as buttons (which is sort of the point).
