I'm trying to do a button with a dynamic textfield inside, and I want the button to resize according to the size of the textfield.I could create a textfield with createTextField, but the problem is that in that case I'd need to give it the size of the text, that I don't know beforehand.

Like if i have an instance of an mc called NavBT which is inside a button. now on the button actions can i put this code:
on (rollOver) {
this.NavBt.gotoAndPlay("lb-over");
}
so that when i rollover the button it goes and plays the label called lb-over which is inside the NavBT?

View 2 RepliesI have another problem I create a button in the library, it has a background graphic on a layer and a textField, the textField has a instance name defined in the properties panels and some text. I manually place some instance of the button on stage, I give them different instance names and voilĂ a new problem arise when with actionscript I try to assign a new text to the textField inside a button it throws me error 1119. A quick look at the menu option debug ->list objects, shows me that the instance name of the textField inside the button it is not what I defined but it was replaced with some random name like "instance66"I did a test with a movieclip instead of a button and I can correctly access my textField with the instance name that I manually defined. Why that can be the same with the button? And if for some arcane reason cant be possible to access a manually defined instance inside a button WHY flash give me the possibility to give an instance name to a dynamic textField inside a button?

what i tried to do is the following: i created a dynamic text, gave it a name and converted it to symbol (Button; together with a shape). then i created an instance of it and gave this one a name as well.i tried to access the dynamic text using the following as 3 code:
[symbol instance name].[dyn. text name].text = "asdf";
however, that doesnt work, and the following error shows up: "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."its interestion that all that works for the symbol being a movie clip instead of a button.is there a possibility to access the dynamic text inside the button as well? is there a reason for the difference between the button and the movie clip?

I have created a button symbol in the library that includes adynamic text instance called labelTxt. I've then dragged this ontothe stage to form several buttons called "btn1", "btn2" etc.I want to be able to change the contents of the text on thebuttons dynamically, but I am getting quite a few errors whiletrying to set the text.I have tried using (for example)btn1.labelTxt.text=myString but am getting errors saying that the property isn't defined.uote:1119: Access of possibly undefined property labelTxt througha reference with static type flash.display:SimpleButton.would skin a Button and use that but there are 3 quitedifferent styles (skins) of buttons on this particular chart, andI'm not sure how to do that with Buttons. It's simple menu that contains one MC at start that works as button, u can edit size of the menu from external .txt file by changing the value of menu length. All that works fine , my problem is that every new duplicated mc contains dynamic text area as a label. Labels are also loaded from that .txt file , but that works only for the 1st mc because the newly created text areas in mc's dont have Instance Name set. How can i assign them from as?

The button is inside of a movieclip, the instance name of it is News, the instance name of the button is collegamento and the instance name of the dynamic text is Testo. So knowing this I'm triyng to change the content of the text using:
News.collegamento.Testo.htmlText="text here";
But Flash is giving me this error:

Once in the scene I can get a button to gotoandplay themc.mc and the label.But what I really want to do is get the button on one page to go to the scene and play the label on the second scene.

View 3 RepliesI am having this problem using the dataGrid in flex. I have a Label in one of the columns of the datagrid, and the label has the truncateToFit property True. But it is not working.
At first I had a static width to Label, and it works in that case. But the problem using that is, when I change the wide of the column, in the output, it does not changes the width of label, and if I make the column width small, the label wont get truncated.
Using 100% width for the label, does not helps either.
My datagrid code looks like below given code:

how to make a label appear inside a input text field. As of now I am just using a static text field to the left of the input field, bt due to lack of space I would like the text field name to appear inside the actual input text field and when the user clicks to insert their text the title or label for that input field dissapears.

View 6 RepliesI want to use a button symbol that has dynamic text in it that can be edited in actionscript. At first I placed the dynamic text field over the button and made the group into another button, but the text was not getting loaded from the actionscript. I researched and found a suggestion to group them as a movie clip instead of a button as the button won't find the contained text field.
I've changed the button+text to a movie clip symbol and now the text loads fine; however, I have the button set so that on "Down", x and y increase by 2 and the shadow decreases by 2 to give it a "pressed down" effect. However I can't figure out how to get my text to move along with it, other than by creating a function for press down and release for each button, which is really laborious.
This is what I have been doing for each instance of the movie clip to get the text to move with the button:

And I have a simple itemrenderer that takes the data and displays a name, and a message. Just think of it like a simple instant messenger display. The problem is that for my msg_txt label I want to give it a width thats the width of the parent list thats holding it.I tried turning the horizontalScrollPolicy to off, also tried width="this.parent.parent.width}" (as well as this.parent.width) for the spark label inside the item renderer. and in the label i tried some things like left="0" right="0" maxWidth="{this.width}" but nothing really does the trick.How can I make this label have a max width of the list thats holding it, AND make sure it resizes if the size of the browser changes and the list size changes?heres the list:

I have a button inside another button which is inside a movieclip. *whew*I have it so that when you click on the movieclip, a dialog box pops up. I have two buttons on the dialog box, but for some reason you can't click on them and when you do, the dialog box just disappears. Here's a picture of what I'm talking about, so how do i get the "YES/NO" buttons to work? Oh, the buttons are not included in that Graphic

View 1 RepliesI am building a dynamic RSS viewer in actionscript 3. I wrote a flex application to create the xml code, now I load the xml into my flash application. Now the user of my flex app can pick a color for a thread. I import this hex value into flash to assign a background color of a movieclip. The problem is that the movieclip also has dynamic text in it. With my function changeColor() I seem to be changing this font color as well. I have tried to solve it by using a TextFormat but no luck.

The Quartz class is an extension to the movieClip class. It adds an image to the stage. I want to be able to write code to add 3 images (without having to do it manually) and access their x and y properties.The error on is for line 2 and says: error 1078: Label must be a simple identifier.
